I'm really into to history and military (technology developments). And I've always been amazed by how a country like Russia can be 'up' there with America and the west in arms industry. But the Ukraine war has revealed that the Russian military is way behind and disorganised. To put it really lightly. In the past month Ukraine have taken out around 500 Russias main battle tanks, fighter jets, helicopters, trucks and ships(the black sea flagship). It took Russia 10 years to take Chechnya, a break away Russian state, which back then had a population of a few hundred thousand people. It was a city. Ukraine has a population of 40 million and it is a country the size of Texas. Texas is twice the size of the UK. Russian soldiers were given food that dates 2015.
I didn't know that the Russian economy is smaller than the UK (Gross). UK is around 3 trillion, Russian 1.8 trillion. All wars need financial support. And the Russian military has a budget of around 60 billion dollars. But because of corruption the military doesn't get all the support it should have received over decades. Corruption is rife from top to bottom. Apparently Putin has over 500 million dollars stashed away.
Ukraine also have veterin seasoned soldiers. All previously trained by Russia. And they are constantly supplied with modern weapons from the west.
Can Putin win this war? I think the odds are against him. Initially the world thought the Russians would walk over the Ukraines. |

"He has no choice but to win, even if it takes years.
The Vietnam war, Afghanistan war(UK, Russia, US) 10 years for US. All pulled out. Lost. "
Putin made it illegal for any russian government to cede territory, he has no choice but to win. |

If the Russian military was as weak as you claim then the west would have already sent boots on the ground to help Ukraine. Don't believe everything that you read. There's a very good reason why West is not sending any troops like they did in Afghanistan and Iraq |

---Take this to the politics forum, we actually have one on here!! One of the reasons I don't do the Fabguys Forum atm is they Don't have a politics forum over there, and the Lounge is full of anti Russian sentiment and ppl trying to avoid it. Not everyone thinks it is kind, it is clever, that it benefits us - and nor is it to everyone's tastes.---- |

One of the reasons why the Russian military is loosing so badly is because the military is controlled by the Kremlin. In the west the government (policts) give the main order but they don't ditcate or give their general orders. This is left to the military chain of command. This is why the Russians have been so disorderly. Russia is supposed to be a super power. But here they are like a 3rd world military, but worse. |

One of my long time friends has a long time girlfriend who is Russian. But regardless I don't dislike anyone, race, religion, or anything. So long as its not wrong

Putin is going to need something to claim as a victory hence his shift to the Donbas.
Albeit it will be somewhat of a Pyrrhic victory.
The Russian Armed Forces have certainly been sent in ill prepared and equipped for the level of resistance they faced. |

Reason it went so bad for Putin is that the major his army are conscripts who were just doing their national service as per the law.
They were not there to fight they were conned into fighting with no choice.
The Ukrainians are fighting with their harts and with true purpose as they are defending their very right to live ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

True, and this is one of many reasons. Which is why the odds are so stacked against Putin. This is his war. |

Only problem is Putin is not an honourable man and so will use any and all dirty tricks at his disposal.
He has used his own people as cannon fodder and will sacrifice even more of them to get what he is after while he sits like coward in his country while his army dies ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

The French had the same problem in 1939.
It had what was considered the best tanks and the best equipped army but it sufered from logistic problems, lack of morale and leadership like the Russians today |

I couldn't believe it when Russia had a 40 mile convoy. I thought 'their sitting ducks'. And they were. A lot of vehicles broke down in the Russian military due to poor or no maintenance at all. |

Yup parts missing probably never even fitted or ordered but most likely invoiced paid for and the money pocketed
Old munitions which never worked again most most likely the same as above
Someone up high has probably been ripping off their military for years not thinking that it would ever be deployed ![](/icons/s/lol.gif) |

And Putin doesn't know. Apparently he really doesn't, because all his men are 'yes sir'. So sad. |
