"WW3 has been announced on Russian tv (allegedly).
What next?"
See I don’t get this… Russian State TV are going mad at the sinking of the Moskva, but the defence and foreign ministry are saying it was an internal event that sunk it… not Ukraine!
But the pundits are say they should go after the likes of Ukrainian railways in revenge…
So… erm… admission by omission?
I think they are going to use now the premise of Finland and Sweden joining nato to claim the west are threatening them…. |

That because an ex politician had a bit of a rant on a morning panel show over the sinking of their boat? Him saying it's a declaration of war.
Goes against the narrative of fire extinguishers not being in the right place and it it being a bit of an accident. |

Yeah the 'news' I read did say that them joining Nato was the west threatening poor innocent Russia.
It's just the d*unken bloke in the street shouting and bawling at people with the intent that someone punches him so he can claim they started it. |

While I know this is serious stuff, the Russian media are a wrong to imply this is WW3 because the war is constrained to Europe. The reason WWI & WWII were “world wars” was because there were theatres beyond Europe (even though The Great War was predominantly European in nature and only got named WWI when we had WWII)
Pedantic yes |

The Russian navy’s greatest success was sinking the Wilhelm Gustloff in January 1945. Sending 10000 largely refugee Germans into the freezing Baltic Sea. Few survived.
It was war but they gave the commander the highest medal. They later desecrated the war grave looking for Nazi treasure. |

"Don’t panic the Russians have proved there utterly useless just as iv always said there only a threat to Eastern European countries that arnt in nato "
This, and they claim the Captain died in the fire, really, what was he doing that close. Yet more stunning incompetence from Russian military leaders, his missed the missiles coming down the bearing line, then tried to put out the fire. Turkey rescued 74 crew, all the officers I suspect and and the 'dead' captain who has now defected to the west.
Russia is really not in a place or in authority to declare WW3 or end the planet, the former is not possible looking at the armed forces they have and the later would really piss off the Chinese.
Putin is now at the empty threat stage, threatening other countries not to join NATO, threatening other countries not send more arms to Ukraine (what? Too good for you Putin)
Russia has cocked up, they have been hit hard, lost an oil terminal, lost an assault ship, lost the Baltic flagship. Then made the strange decision to hit the anti ship missile factory which should have been a day one target. You really have to question their armed forces, too many generals with too many ideas leads to infighting. |

We did similar .
Sheffield, type 42 was lost in the Falklands as the captain was on the sat phone so the radar was down and that why the ship was lost. It didn't see the missles in time.
Poor choices are often made in combat and then judged by others later who are not risking their life( I include my self in this).
Re the missle manufacturing being hit late in the game, I don't think this was an omission in terms of strike targets.
It speaks more to the strategy and assumptions that were made when the war was planned.
The Russians have ,at the start committed light squishy forces in a series of attempted fast strikes undertaking with poor intelligence and a lot of baseless assumptions.
They didn't hit the factory and most of the other industry initially as they firmly believed that they could take the country and the bulk of its infrastructure intact. The strike on the factory was clearly 1. An admission the ship was hit by missiles and 2 and act of vengeance.

Even worse, I was in the vicinity when the USS Stark got whacked, it saw the missiles and didn't believe it was the target until it was too late.
The Sheffield was sadly lost at the time anti air and missile defence systems were in their infancy. |

Sheffield was built in the same period as the kara and slava class.
Problem wasn't the missiles, although seawolf, sea cat and sea dart were woefully unsuited to sea skimmers, that and aluminium superstructure and cost cutting in the navy.
What got the ship hit was the actions of the captain.
