Thoughts?

Surely, if someone is trans, that means they have become that sex?

Have they?

Don't trans people want to drop the word Trans as if differentiates them from others of their gender?

No

If a man becomes a woman through surgery then they still have the muscle mass of a male.

People make this political, especially the far right who use it as an excuse to bash the trans community.

Piers Morgan gets especially triggered by this kind of thing. As an example.

Nothing wrong with a bit of trans bashing as long as you have 2 things:

I can see what a difficult one it is, whilst I am happy for trans to identify as women there is the amount of fairness in competition on a sporting level. I understand the frustration of not been able to compete in the gender you identify with.

Take Robert miller for example nearly won la vuelta and competed at elite level for well over a decade, before identifying as female and becoming Pippa York.

If she had changed during the cycling career there is no female cyclist who would have been able to compete to that standard which would have robbed a lot of female cyclist of success.

Most everything that the media and the government say about us is bollocks to distract from the fact that they are fucking horrible people who are screwing the entire country. "Never mind that the tories have stolen billions of pounds during the pandemic, look over there, a transwoman attempting to go for a piss in private, lynch her because she is really a man that is stealing all the gold medals".

There's a tiny number of us, we're just trying to get on with our lives, and we are getting really really sick of all the cunts that are spouting shit about us all the time. It's a drip drip drip every single day of our lives. Please just stop it everybody. If you listen to yourselves, you're using the same words as Putin; when you find yourselves on the same side as a genocidal dictator, you ought to know that you are wrong.

To all who are offended by this, because you recognise yourselves in my words, not sorry at all.

See this is what happens when you make things black and white. I don't agree with you, but at the same time I'm not offended.

While yes I do agree there are some things societaly that need to change. That doesn't mean everything needs to change for such a tiny minority of the population.

There's also the fact that the public in ever increasing numbers are becoming less and less sympathetic with the trans community because of a ridiculous vocal minority within a minority that are controlling the narrative. Those people aren't doing your cause any favours.

There's also the fact that sometimes you just have to live with reality. No matter how much it upsets you. There are things I don't like about reality. But I'm not about to go around hurling names at people, destroying careers, causing unrest and just plain being an asshole because I don't like it.

At the end of the day, no one is disagreeing that trans people should be allowed to participate within professional athletics. But there are very real and very harmful consequences for women as a result of throwing all science into the wind just because you don't like what it says. That may change over time when more studies are done. But you can't escape the fact the biological women are at a disadvantage when it comes to competing with trans athletes. That's not because you're hated. That's reality. It's an inescapable scientific fact. You might not like it, but it doesn't equate to anyone thinking you should have more or less rights than anyone else. To suggest otherwise is just narrow minded and ignorant.

You can choose to be like that. That's up to you. But don't expect to be loved for it. Have a conversation. Discuss the topic by all means. But when you start with the doom and gloom everyone hates us rhetoric, you just push open minded and tolerant people away from even considering your point of view.

You think that there is anyone in the trans community that is controlling the narrative? I must have missed all the major newspapers that are being pushed around by the trans cabal, that are every day publishing articles saying that cis people are perverts. Perhaps I'm not aware of how the UK parliament has been forced into allowing everybody to freely change their legal gender three times a day if they want to. And somehow I failed to notice that since the current sports rules were set twenty odd years ago, every single womens gold medal has been taken by the hordes of trans that have overwhelmed every olympic event.

Or maybe in fact the situation is totally the other way around.

Your statement is that because a very few people within a marginalised and victimised group have finally dared stand up and start talking back, then that group should be kicked even harder. Those uppity trans people, how dare they talk back! The majority are totally justified, obligated even, to stick the boot in if the minority complains. It's all the fault of the victims, if only they didn't bleed everywhere, it wouldn't be necessary to bully them.

We aren't the ones pushing away open minded and tolerant people. That would be transphobes that are every day making up shit about us. That are every day starting forum posts about how we want to destroy real gender, or steal womens rights.

Or maybe we'd just like to be allowed to have a piss without someone demanding to look at our genitals?

This is a very strange reply.

"Far right" is unrelated to the concept of agreement with other people on any subject.

far right

noun

the extreme right wing of a political party or group.

"while the far right may gain some seats, it is far from gaining power"

adjective

belonging to or representing the views of the extreme right wing of a political party or group.

"far right politicians"

Hope that helps.

Brighton

I find all this really interesting but have steered clear of entering discussions because it is all so emotive and offence can be easily, if inadvertently, caused.

I believe people should have the right to identify as they wish.

However, doing so should not in any way disadvantage someone who is biologically female or male.

From what I hear, there are some prominent women like JK Rowling who is accused of being a TERF (can someone explain) and anti-trans but from what I have read/seen she seems to be speaking up about the right of biological women to have “safe” or women only spaces (toilets, changing rooms etc).

On the radio last week a trans person who has identified as a woman for several years but currently still has a penis was very sympathetic to this women only position and said that until they had taken the final step later this year of surgery to remove the penis, would not use women’s spaces.

When it comes to most sports, males have a physical advantage over women. So surely a person who identifies as female but is still fully or part biological male also retains that advantage? That simply isn’t fair and is a cornerstone of sport.

Forgive my ignorance (and if I use the wrong words in this post please forgive that too, it is written with good/genuine intent) but once a person has fully transitioned from male to female, do they still retain that physical advantage? Does it diminish over time due to hormone treatment?

Should there be trans sport/categories and spaces? Does having that discriminate by identifying as trans rather than as a woman or man?

Aaarrggh so difficult and complicated!

The studies on how much of an advantage is retained are, at best, light. It's nighbon impossible to do a proper study, but the ones I've heard about focus on things like grip strength.

My guess is the advantages will vary across sports.

But whatever decision is amde, it should be done using science and fairness.

In terms of the JKR bits, there are, from what I see, three elements

1) the feelings of those in safe spaces etc of having someone who they may recognise as "male looking" and thw effect that has on thwrinfeelings of safety. That is not saying they are more unsafe. They may just feel that way.

2) the feelings and emotions of trans women seeking safe spaces.

3) the claim that cis men will identify as trans women to game the system and create danger. This claim needs to be backed by data or examples. AFAIK it hasn't. It's currently a straw man.

Unfortunately the focus tends to be on 3. Or ppl get bogged down on stats when it's 1) ignoring the feelings of fear (and I suspect PTSD) because of stats. Sometimes we are more compassionate about a fear of spiders than a fear learned from experience.

Those who I'm not talking about, I know that you won't be offended, because you will recognise the truth of what I say.

Oh yeah, and "woke" to all of you.

Peace and love everyone, Polly.

Stop demanding access to women's sports, changing rooms, prisons etc & you won't get the backlash.

We don't. All we request is that the existing law on these matters is fairly applied. All the shit stirring is done by the big money and evil intent behind the gender crits."

"We don't',is simply untrue.

That is EXACTLY the reason there is a justified backlash as that IS what the extremist trans lobby are demanding

Tayside, Midlands and Chester

Just because a dog is born in a barn does not make it a cow. You are what you were born. If you have a Y chromosome then you are male, even the tare XXY. A person can identify as whatever they want and I have no problem with that. However, factually you cannot change your sex, DNA, or associated body traits (muscle build up, skeleton etc). Therefore, you are what you were born and for sport, toilet use, changing rooms and so on that is the category you are in.
