Kilkenny, but Dublin is more fun |
And only weekend before last, we had heat domes above both poles, with 40°c above in Antarctica and 30°c above in the Arctic.
Net zero by 2050 is a farse. It's only there for politicians to feel good about themselves by allowing the current system so obsessed with imaginary monetary growth and dependent on loyal workers and hungry consumers to just keep going as long as possible. We as a species have become trapped in this make believe world of our own creation within reality, and it's advanced far faster than we could adapt to.
I know everyone is struggling with fuel prices now, and it's unrelated to this but things are going to start getting more chaotic and severe, and I'm not talking about just the climate. The impacts will most likely have severe effects on our geopolitics, which in turn put so much pressure on our new normal dependence on global supply chains.
Things are just going to get worse, but the media and the governments are either completely ignorant of it, unable to think outside of the ways this all encapsulating system, or they don't want the populations to panic.
Humanity may survive the coming centuries, but this current global civilisation and this incredibly unsustainable way of life so separated from the real world probably won't. |

"Doubt the human race will be around in 500 yrs or less as pretty stupid destroying the planet you live on."
We've been through climactic changes and ice ages before but during our hunter gatherer days, and they happened much slower than what's to come. Humanity may survive, but at a much smaller scale in a harsh world stripped of easy to access resources where agriculture has become unreliable at best and if we don't, so be it.
Maybe this is the reason we don't hear any transmissions from intelligent life in the cosmos. Lifeforms extinguish themselves very often when they get to this point.
Dinosaurs didn't have smartphones, or were aware of the sheer lunacy of the reality they were in but they also survived for nearly 200,000,000 years.
Our species has been around about 200,000 years, and may not last much longer, but you have to be somewhat proud of the progress one species made and got itself to the point it could even ask the deep questions about this ancient universe it was in.
Too bad we convinced ourselves that everything revolved around us. |
