In 2020, Johnson promised to ban gay conversion therapy and said it was: "absolutely abhorrent and has no place in a civilised society."
It's almost as if you can't trust a word he says... |

"Just look at the voting record for most of the Tories. It's no secret what they think of non-straight people."
I'm curious if/how anybody will take Johnson's side on this one. |

Not really taking his side on this as I really don't understand how you can tell someone they are something else other than who they are.
If you're gay straight or anything in between then thats who you are and no amount of therepy is going to change that.
What gets me is why nobody is saying whats blocking the bill?
Is it by any chance religion ?

I would say most definitely Religion, of all denominations, they are entrenched in there own ideology and so detached from real life , and yet on things that need leadership they are conspicuous in there absence , a case of you scratch my back and I will scratch yours . |

Watching the news last night they appear to be saying a ban is ok for gay but not transgender as they believe trans can sometimes be greatly affected by fashion trends or lead by peer pressure. Just for the record I have zero knowledge on this, so not my view in any way I’m just repeating what they said. |

Theres quite a lot to unpack with that statment.
I think its fair to say that the LGBTQ+ community, of which I can squarely count myself a part, takes the general view that conversion "therapy" is a form of abuse.
In the case of the LGBQ - seems like we and the Tories have an accord here - they agree (albeit grudgingly) that its not ok to abuse gays.
But its still ok to abuse trans people... because being trans is apparently a fashion choice?
I'm actually fucking appalled by this. How at a stroke, they negate and trivialise trans existence and tacitly say that these people are only worth your derision.
Second class citizens...
I think this lays bare the monster that lives at the heart of every Tory. Those who are different are not deserving of the same protections under law as the "normal" people.
It's shameful

There is the gender fluid side of things, that complicates matters. |

Can someone explain what is meant by the term conversion therepy?
Having read few articles on the subject it appears that some people believe that psychiatric evaluation is conversion therapy.
I always think of it like the movies when people made to sit and watch heterosexual porn and were given electric shock therapy..
Bizzare I know but I had poor taste in movies |

My understanding of conversion therapy is the idea that if you are having problems living as a homosexual we will straighten you out then you wont have a problem any more. Obviously this does not work & other people should accept you as you are rather than try to change you. Some professional therapists may have a hidden agenda or have been told to reduce the numbers they are referring for surgery |
