People are dying and you want to criticise other countries to try and make a brexit point? ffs

Have you seen who’s been funding our government. Have you heard of the covering up of a Russian influence investigation ?

Talk about glass houses!

Germany has changed its decades old policy of non intervention to now send weapons to Ukraine. That’s some arse covering.

You mean the collective group of states that carries more clout and influence than 'Global Britain' ... I wonder if Macron was ever paid £250,000 to play tennis with the wife of Putins ex finance minister? ... But hey its not dodgy money because they 'paid' the correct amount of millions to get a golden visa and citizenship, no questions asked. Or have paid a million to sit on the conservative party 'advisory board' with direct access to senior ministers.

It’s not a competition ffs as I see it the EU and the uk are stepping up and so is the rest of the world but by bit.

Every country has to make sure they are not breaking rules of engagement as per treaties ect so as not to give the Warmonger Putin cause for retaliation.

The time will come soon enough but that’s not a reason to escalate it faster than it needs.

Best we can hope dem is for one of his generals to pop a bullet between his eyes at the moment.

You realise that every single EU mrmber, and that included the UK prior to Brexit, is sovereign? If anything, being in the EU is the best way to put pressure on others so they would follow your lead?

Everyday Russians need to see the kleptocracy around them, where the money has been siphoned off and kept in western countries, the West need to open the books and show where their money has been spent on their oiigarchs on luxury Yachts and mansions in London. Whilst they a desperately scrambling to get money out of the bank, they need to know where their stolen money has gone. When someone finds out they have been robbed is a far more stronger message than saying Russians soldiers are fighting. Follow the money open the books and show how they have been robbed over the past 30 years. They will be so pissed off.

EU stepping up? Two weeks too late and they know it. Just how do you get 4000 anti tank weapons and 500 stinger into Ukraine now? They'll have to fight their way in actually using the weapons supplied.

Nice to see the Ukrainian soldiers using using Russian captured shoulder launched weapons against the invaders. Not sure leaning them up against a wall was a wise idea though.

So which of those things would not have been possible when the UK was part of the EU ?

Isn't there an old saying that "together we are stronger" ?

the conservative and unionist government, just as they were at the onset of covid, are racing to catch up with the implementation of meaningful measures by the EU to counter the hostilities by russia in ukraine. it's blatently clear that brexiting has not allowed any discernable action by the conservative and unionist government that was not open to it prior to brexit. yet another sold brexit pup exposed.

We're stuck in a country that is run by politicians who welcomed donations piped directly from Moscow to finance the brexit campaign. Brexit was bought and paid for by Putin in order to increase dissent in Europe and weaken NATO. It doesn't matter in the slightest whether there might or might not be some "over the rainbow" eventual benefits to the DisUnited Kingdom, what is most important is that Putin wanted the EU to break up.

Without russian dictatorship money brexit would never have happened. There might well have still been some rearrangement and adjustment of rules, to the benefit of all (and yes, I'm sure this would have been a good thing). But EU would be stronger, NATO would be stronger, and we probably wouldn't be on the verge with nutcases threatening to chuck nuclear fire about...

Total rubbish if the uk was still in the eu it would not have gone alone on these measures the eu "all together" mantra would have prevailed as usual and you know that as its the way it works and if you dare break ranks they find ways to punish you just look at Hungary and poland.I see they are again following the uk by now shutting down air space again too slow but thats what happens when you want to show unity. As this has been turned into a ‘competition’ it is obvious that the sanctions imposed by the EU will have a far more damaging affect for Russia than what the UK has imposed

No, I have merely pointed out a benefit to Brexit. Something that the self righteous keep calling for. The ability to respond quickly to aid Ukraine without the internal squabbles of a group of 27. I accept we should've done more, sooner but I'm happy to acknowledge that. Not once, on any related thread do I recall the usual suspects even hinting at such am acknowledgement towards the EU.

considering that indiviual eu members demonstrated that they are able to implement sanctions unilateraly, the lie told by brextremist leavers that this was not possible while we were members has been exposed as just that, a lie. then while the brextremist conservative and unionist party government were bogged down in a slow bloated crawl to implement sanctions on 3 people, the EU was moving swiftly with a list of people to sanction numbering in excess of 350. even today the brextremist conservative and unionist party government is slowly lumbering far behind with a list some 200 short of those targeted by the nimble EU.

Lol. I don't know if you're making fun of the kind of misunderstanding brexit people have.

Regardless, there are people out there who still think Brexit is a good idea. And some of them have have absolutely no idea what the EU is, and how it works. Which is utterly mind boggling.

news report from 2016

Leading Brexiteers have called for better relations with Russia. Six months ago, Boris Johnson urged Britain to work more closely with Russia in fighting so-called Islamic State in Syria.

He concluded: "It is just not true that whatever is good for Putin must automatically be bad for the West".

The Kremlin will have taken note.

It seems they did take note .........

"Total rubbish if the uk was still in the eu it would not have gone alone on these measures the eu "all together" mantra would have prevailed as usual and you know that as its the way it works and if you dare break ranks they find ways to punish you just look at Hungary and poland.I see they are again following the uk by now shutting down air space again too slow but thats what happens when you want to show unity. Their "protect the principles of the eu" has turned them into a dinosaur.

complete ideological brextremist nonsense. this just regurgitates the same old hate for the sake of hate. time for some to let go of that hate and move on. "

Nothing to with hate, read the title of the thread i was responding to that. The uk can act faster than the eu its a simple fact.

All countries in the European Union can act faster individually and are free to do so , however when the EU does act it has far more influence and strength than the U.K. on its own. I think that’s fact too.

nope .... you quoted my post and bitched about it and then in an outburst of hate made up some falsehoods about the EU in a failed attempt to give them gravitas.

Not a fact. Utter nonsense and has no bearing in reality.

"This thread just highlights how people still have no clue what the EU is, what it's for, and what it does.

"

To be fair I'm not sure anyone has a clue...or ever has.

I would agree that the UK can act faster than the EU as can France, Germany, Spain or in fact, any country within the EU given that they are all sovereign.

It is the impact of the action of the EU that is more important as 27 countries acting together are obviously saying more that any one individual country (be the the UK, France, Germany etc.).

The EU has show itself to be more than simply a trading entity - needs must.

It is a funny twist of fate that the EU has been able to make decisions that had the UK still been part of it, would have been vetoed. The visas for refugees are just one example.

Farage and his cronies probably held back a lot of decisions in the EU with their vetoes for the sake of simple disruption.

I wonder if one of the Brexit benefits that will be touted is going to be a stronger EU?

It's pretty basic. Wikipedia tells you those things.

So the ROI gets hauled in because its a member of the EU, or does it stay neutral. Does the EU control the nuclear weapons held by France, no. Some of the states did act independently at the outset, the EU sanctions are in addition to the member states actions. All the states kept their military out of EU business, and technically still have.
