In her own statement tonight Cressida Dick says:
“It is with huge sadness that following contact with the Mayor of London today, it is clear that the Mayor no longer has sufficient confidence in my leadership to continue. He has left me no choice but to step aside.”

"There will still be scumbags on the streets intimidating and attacking each other with innocent people getting caught up in it.
I does not matter who they put in charge "
There are also scumbags in parliament who encourage such behaviour with inflammatory comments because of their desperate need to stay in power. |

Chosen by Khan.....?"
No chosen by number 10. Head of the Met is a political appointment.
Hope Khan has no input and we get someone who actually can lead |

I thought the Met Commissioner was chosen by Home Secretary? May be wrong.....
The Mayor of London is, or has already, turned London into an unsafe shambles too |

Don't forget Bas Javid. High ranking copper and brother of the current Health Secretary |

Priti Patel says Khan was 'rude and unprofessional' over the Cressida Dick situation.
That's the Priti Patel who was found to have breached the Ministerial Code by repeatedly bullying civil servants |

I know who technically makes the appointment....but if Khan can sack Dick...which he effectively did (probably to cover his own back..as others have intimated) then surely he gets a big say in the matter? |

"The Mayor of London is, or has already, turned London into an unsafe shambles too"
the home secretary has overseen the huge increase in stabbings countrywide from cumbria to norfolk to lincolnshire to cornwall and all points inbetween ... she's made the entire country of england a completely unsafe shambles |

"There are seven candidates"
I wonder just how many people will be trying to dig the dirt on them already
I did see that Kahn will veto anyone who HE sees as unsuitable he should be kept well out of it.
The new person should be elected not chosen by Patel or Kahn |

No the new person should come from outside any UK police force as if they are already in it how can they enforce change. And what we have seen recently change is needed urgently.
Personally think it should be a high ranking ex forces person.

Nick Adderley is an outsider. He is ex forces and very highly thought of. Turned down GMP.
I think however they may promote from within. |

"God forbid they promote from within as senior management in place at present is tainted by Dicks utter shambles.
It needs an outsider to bring back proper discipline to the Met."
i agree ... and definately NOT anyone who is ex-military or it's just more of the same. |

The problem is I can only see either a serving senior officer or ex-military having the right experience to run the Met.
Think they touted Harvey-Jones at one point in the past.
And it needs a proper clear appointment process with interviews for said post conducted in the public domain not behind closed doors.

How Dick ever stayed in high power, never mind became the head of the Met, after her handling of the Jean Charles de Menezes operation. Is something that should be looked into.
The cover up( which she took part in) for fellow officers was there in enquiry. |

She stayed because the powers that be wanted a woman Met chief. They must of known that she was not up to the job before they appointed her.But again political correctness reared its ugly head and we ended up with a career ladder climber at the top. |

agreed, but that is no reason to place someone so far removed from the reality of everyday life in the position. ex-military is a huge step backwards if institutional racism and misogyny is to be expunged from the police forces. |

So where do we go to get someone with the skill set required.
