Radiation, nerve gas and now troop exercises along the Ukraine.

Haven’t they got anything better to be getting on with?

Putin will turn the screw even harder if he doesn't get his way meaning our gas prices will at least double again.

Failures by the UK Governments & the stupidity of the green nutters has left us with no choice to buy Russian gas. We all understand the need to go green but it can't happen if no alternative & Nuclear is the only true alternative.

The vast majority of our gas comes from domestic North Sea supplies (approx 50%) and Norway (approx 25%). We also import more from the US and Qatar than we get from Russia. However, everything going on in Russia is having an effect on the spot prices of gas from all sources, along with many other factors, such as increased demand in Asia. The UK having some of the lowest gas storage facilities doesn't help (they permanently closed down the North sea storage a few years ago).

I'm increasingly of the view that Russia's actions are just part of a global nationalist acting out, one we're all engaged in, as nations struggle to cope with shifts in the geopolitical power balance.

I also think that problems with Russia are likely to be eclipsed, sooner rather than later, by China.

Russia needs to sell their gas more than we need to buy it

War isn’t cheap and decades of economic decline haven’t been great for Russias wallet.

abruzzo Italy (and UK)

I watched a video of putin speaking yesterday, saying that if Ukraine join NATO and attempts to bring Crimea back by military means then Europe will be dragged into a war with Russia.

Agree it's all to do with running a gas line from Russia to Germany. The UK tried to send military arms through to the Ukraine however, zee Germans stopped us from flying through their airspace.

The time is right for flexing the muscle, most of the west is imploding in on itself with internal divisions. He is not a stupid man, he knows the countries that could stand up to him haven't got the appetite or support from their citizens.

Of course. Russia has blamed for a lot of the disinformation that has exacerbated our internal division, as well.

Yes and China too, they are poking away while we argue amongst ourselves.

Incredibly powerful as a way to disempower the West.

I think Russia has a lot of very large and influential troll farms operating

And I dunno how true this is. But apparently with TikTok being a Chinese company, China controls the algorithm

So in the west they set it so the algorithm rewards people doing silly dances and twerking and lip syncing stuff

And in China it rewards stuff like engineering videos, educational stuff etc etc

Again, I dunno how true it is, but I wouldn’t put it past them. Using an app to celebrate the dumbing down of the west while rewarding innovation amd work ethic in the home land

I think we can't underestimate the power of social media algorithms to alter our discourse. Not just by China, but also think about the presumption of US style freedom of speech that arises from the Silicon Valley. Has that altered discourse in a way that wouldn't have happened if Silicon Valley had been Sunderland?

Well in fairness if you were Russia and looked west any time over the last 5 years and saw Trump, BoJo and now a weakening Biden wouldn't you chance your arm,

Putin knows that he owns Donald, that Boris can't find his Arsehole with his elbow, Biden will kick it soon, the French have reverse gear in their tanks and a spare white flag for every 3rd man, and Angela has retired,, strike when the west is in a mess. He will get what he wants 2 in the end.

You realise how bad Russia is with treating LGBT? I'm pretty sure they are very anti on it, so good luck with that.

Russia is well ahead in troll farms. Many you may well have argued with online can be such trolls.

Chinese ones tend to scream at you over such issues as Tibet and Taiwan.

Russian ones tend to subtly pretend to be Dave from Adelaide or Sandra from Wigan. Look for the grammatical errors.

I got kicked off of FB due to hostile Russian trolls who took exception my group on old Prussia. FB didn’t care and nor did I much.

But the trolls are everywhere. Even here even. Making you feel bad about your cock size or that we will all die from covid vaccinations.

Yes but it does not mean millions of gay and bi men do not exist in their huge population. Yes many closeted thanks to the mistreatment but the place is drenched in gay sex like most nations, just some are more open than others

I think the latter is mostly the suckers who've fallen for the troll farms tbh

The only problem Putin will have is if is cornered to a point he can't back down, he will lose face at home.

As for China, they are struggling financially, output is not what it was, they know war for them would hit them in the pocket.

The problem with dictators having armies is defection, to stop it means they will need to shoot their own.

Putin is far from daft, once he has something that looks like a win without invasion the stand off will recede.

Putin is Russia’s antidote to boozy old Yeltsin.
