Rees-Mogg has been appointed Minister for Brexit Opportunities.
Probably an ideal position for him after all, he was instrumental in pushing through Brexit and continues to tell us how successful it is (or will be in 50 years time).
I do however think it strange that we are searching for Brexit opportunities when surely we should be taking advantage of all the benefits that were touted prior to leaving the EU.
To leave, then look for reasons to have done so seems a little back to front.
I am sure that Rees-Mogg will do an excellent job and I look forward to seeing how Global Britain takes advantage of any opportunities that he finds.

His opportunities seem quite limited. Europe is off the cards. As is Russia and China, much of Korea, maybe he can try his luck with a trade agreement over Argentinian beef.
Or is he the unlucky player in the game of pass the parcel who is left holding the hot potato that is the Ukraine?
Nobody wants it. |

I don't think it's a "job" as such. Not like a new person is moving off the unemployment register to take this position.

Surely an ideal job for someone who works from a horizontal position. No need to get up Jacob, there is nothing to do.
Although there was that £350m a week. Maybe he was looking for it under the benches on the other side all along. |

Think Moggy needs to apologise for comments he made on the Morning after pill before getting involved with what will be a very profitable venture in his ling term future.
Asked if he would make time for a debate on sexual and reproductive health, the minister said he would not "speak in favour of abortifacients" due to religious reasons.
The debate was to reduce profits and without his support, the price was reduced from £15.99 to £10.99 making it more accessible for those in a predicament. |

Only known jobs? Are you sure abiut that? Have you not seen how there is a huge shortage in many industries as a result of EU workers departing. Hospitality, Care, Construction, and even IT all have huge demand, pay rates going up. So whilst I get the point of Brexit being a bit of a mess and the narrative you’re pushing, currently as a combo of pandemic lifestyle changes and Brexit, there are a lot of jobs vacant. |

It was said in jest, however , If Brexit voters (not yourself) are going to exclusively blame the pandemic on the state of the economy etc it is only fair that the pandemic is exclusively responsible for these job vacancies and pay rises |

And he still hasn't corrected his lie/misinformation. I suspect he just likes the word abortifacients as he thinks it makes him sound clever.
Obviously he has no problem with the profits Somerset Capital Management make from abortion though.
Regarding the new job, I would make him do it until he dies, regardless of any future election results. Since they all love the classics so much, he should be the present day Sysyphus. Forever searching for opportunities where none exist.

I have been thinking about this appointment and indeed the Ministerial Title itself and I have a few thoughts:
1) Brexit is Johnson's legacy and he can't afford for the "success" (lol) of Brexit to be diminished. Therefore...
2) This Ministerial Office has been created to perpetuate the gaslighting operation that led to Brexit in the first place. Ignore your own eyes and ears and think only of freedoms, sovereignty and the greatness of Britain. It is in reality the Ministry of Gaslighting. However...
3) As even the Mail and Express are now printing negative Brexit stories, Boris thinks that deploying the Mogg will help to keep the working class oiks, chavs and riff-raff on side by appealing to their cap doffing instincts when confronted by an old Etonian plumb chewer.
The Ministry and the Title are wholly and entirely associated with principles of Vote Leave and their successful endeavours to achieve success through propaganda. This Ministry is simply an extension of that propaganda arm. |

They did try but after writing the heading on an A4 piece of paper “Benefits Of Brexit” the room went very quiet. After hours of erms and ums and a lot of looking out the window the piece of paper was gently placed in the tray marked “To Difficult”
Then then left for tea closing and locking the door quietly as they left . It’s still locked apparently . |

Actually it is more embarrassing that you don’t understand the nuances of your own language.
All of my family, all of my friends and my entire neighbourhood is working class. But none of them are oiks, chavs, or riff-raff and all but the woman at the end do not doff their caps to posh boys.
Not all working class are oiks, chavs, riff-raff and cap doffers in the same that not all Leave voters are racists. However, it is a fair to assumption that the vast majority of racists, chavs, oiks, riff-raff-raff and cap doffers voted Leave.
Nuances are everything.
And by the way, unless you are one of these people who regularly changes your profile name, I don’t recall you ever saying this before. I only have one stalker. |

You think so?
In reality, they would have been celebrating Freedom Day with the UK had they not felt so sorry for those who still want to be part of the EU as getting rid of a country that now needs a department to identify the benifits of leaving - having left - demonstrates the absurdity of this whole thing.
I can't wait for Nadine to be appointed to head the Ministry of Silly Walks.
The EU is much better off without such an inwardly thinking little country.
Those who voted for this deserve what they get - it is the people who didn't whom I feel sorry for.

The way some of you talk about the Working class is an actually an embarrassment
I only have one stalker." yet not one of your family friends or entire neighbourhood voted leave well that’s what you want us to believe can you tell us what is wrong with a chav or oik or riff raff ? |

"Simply because they are still in their stagnated position with less funds there is no benefit for them and exactly why they didn't want the uk to leave.
" if they are why do you constantly go on about it? It seems to me it’s only remainers who can’t get over it the rest of us feel no need to keep posting about the eu even though it is in crisis |

You should look up who funded the leave campaigns (illegally). And see if they're the same people (billionaires) who will benefit.

"Rees-Mogg has been appointed Minister for Brexit Opportunities.

Hold on, is he working on this ‘project ‘ entirely on his own? Are you suggesting that the government don’t know which ‘petty rules ‘ need to go? And how does this work, sun reader Karen want some obscure rule removing , sends in her request and this is granted by JRM? 3) As even the Mail and Express are now printing negative Brexit stories, Boris thinks that deploying the Mogg will help to keep the working class oiks, chavs and riff-raff on side by appealing to their cap doffing instincts when confronted by an old Etonian plumb chewer.
I have said it before
The way some of you talk about the Working class is an actually an embarrassment
All the people I know voted Remain because I don’t associate myself fools or the misguided.
As I have stated numerous times before, there's nothing wrong with the ideology behind Brexit, just the implementation of the current govt.
The ideology and objective of brexit was to transfer power and wealth from British people to the government, and to billionaires.
It's been relatively successful. It's just taking time to get there. Exactly how is that going to work then? i keep hearing these soundbites but maybe you can explain to me exactly how they are going to that now we have left.
You should look up who funded the leave campaigns (illegally). And see if they're the same people (billionaires) who will benefit.
I am sure we can all agree brexit is a huge bag of shit for normal British people. It's now time to look at those who are benefiting from our collective loss. As usual you have told me nothing again you seem so sure of this explain how they are going about it "
I dunno, if I wanted to find out about brexit I wouldn't be on a swingers forum asking strangers to explain it.

"Rees-Mogg has been appointed Minister for Brexit Opportunities.
I Jacob Rees-Mogg (Moggy) I am more than sure he will make a success of it. "

Not sure what this all is in aim of. The fact is we now have extra rules and paperwork in addition to extra costs to sell to the EU.
If we wish to sell to the EU we still have to abide by their standards and regulations so we can’t get rid of anything in that respect.
All we can do is cut workers protections and rights.
I think they are desperately trying to spin a bullshit yarn that they are doing something and trying to latch onto the mislead brexit voters to rally support for their doomed leader.
It’s yet more pathetic politics of spin and celebrity instead of actually running the country.,
Maybe they should be looking at customs union options to help business because all these claimed wonderful deals seem to help every other country but not us.
Brexit is a mess and we need better government to try and recover sone ground. Whether that’s Tory or labour or other I don’t care, but this lot are a dangerous shambles.

The UK need worry no more as Rees-Mogg has asked readers of "The Sun" to write to him with their list of Brexit Opportunities.
Good to know that the Govt relies so much on the readership of this great tabloid.
Unfortunately it also reveals where most of those who voted for Brexit get their news.
Yes, the same audience that gave our esteemed Gov't their 80 seat majority.
It can only get better... |

Boris has hired a top class spin doctor. I’m sure he’ll
Manage to spoon some yarns that are good enough to hoodwink the Brexit brigade. After all they fell hook lone and sinker for a lot of bullshit before. So it won’t take much to get their pulses racing so they back the cause. Things will promised. Other things will be done. Usual drill. |

In fairness the advice was not to make like an Ostrich, but rather to make the most of a bad situation, adapt and make the most of it.
Not bad advice given where we find ourselves. Adaptation and innovation is bot mutually exclusive from acceptance. |

On an individual level I think that’s entirely i correct. If you step in dog shit you can spend your time cursing the dog, the owner or the council, or you can clean your shoes and move on. If by carrying on moving you spot an opportunity and make it work, is that better than still standing on the spot cursing the dog? |

To ‘move on’ and improve the situation you have to accept that things are bad , realise Brexit has been a shit show , stop pretending it’s great , then find ways to rectify what has gone wrong . The tories are still blaming the EU |

Will you ever stop whining about this and just get on and deal with the reality? If you spent as much time rolling with it as you do complaining about it you might actually prosper
….
Excellent advice, pretend it's not happening, look the other way and hope everything is fine.
In fairness the advice was not to make like an Ostrich, but rather to make the most of a bad situation, adapt and make the most of it.
Not bad advice given where we find ourselves. Adaptation and innovation is bot mutually exclusive from acceptance.
That only works if we all accept it is a ‘bad situation ‘ rather than thinking everything is fine and stop blaming the EU for the problems we now face .
The tories are still blaming the EU "

I'm a wheelchair user. Dog shit gets on my hands. Into the fabric of my (fingerless) gloves. Under my nails. How am I supposed to clean that up whilst out and about? It's dangerous to my health, so yes, I'll complain about it.
Much like Brexit - it's a stinking pile of turd that gets under my nails, into the very fabric of everything and is dangerous to the "health" of British society. |

Apologies. K did not know about the wheelchair. Clearly your points are quite valid.
It was meant as an allegory for a bad situation and that there are multiple options which are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Some make a difference to the actors, make no difference at all, or may benefit wider society or not. It was not intended to be a literal example. And of course dog shit is bad and causes problems. But that was not really my point. All the best. |

Here's a good Brexit opportunity, to show how you feel, its called an election, where you vote to show your dissatisfaction with the current situation. Guess what you want to see the political establishment really take notice? that's what you do! |

Just because living with the consequences of Brexit maybe tolerable to one, does not mean it is tolerable to all.

Quite. But the comment was in relation to devoting time to activities other than talking and complaining about it, your response in fairness whilst a valid and fair opinion and perspective missed that I think, and turned it right back around to the ‘protest the outcome cause it is bad’ narrative. The purpose of the comment I made was to agree with a fellow poster that had suggested that devoting time to other actions might be more worthwhile. Which I agree with.
I voted remain. I studies EU law at post grad. I worked in EU. I was gutted and dismayed at the result. I continue to hope things improve. I’ve see opportunities since Brexit and made the most of them. Adapt and keep moving. I can do all that and complain about Brexit. But am old enough and wise enough to know that just blowing hot air will change fk all. The system simply does not work that way. It took a generation to brainwash the public and turn sentiment in favour of leaving. If anything changes it will take a generation or more to reverse. Could well be dead by then so going to make the most of it and get on as best as we can. besides inflation is great! Live it |

We vote in the bloody parish council elections - any democratic vote that we're eligible for, we exercise the right that people fought and died for us to have. We're well aware that others don't and we agree that if a person doesn't vote, then they can't expect their views to be represented.
What I do take exception to is the pervasive idea that anyone complaining about Brexit automatically didn't bother to vote. It's an oft-repeated attempted insult, usually from ardent pro-Brexit people who forget that the vote wasn't 100% leave. |

"Rees-Mogg has been appointed Minister for Brexit Opportunities.

Liz Truss

I've got a stunning idea.
let's show unity and build a gas pipleline from Ukraine to the UK. We only need 5% of the gas in the pipleline, so we could sell the rest of it back to our friends in the EU.
We already have the corporate company name in place for this - British Gas. |

I only have one stalker.yet not one of your family friends or entire neighbourhood voted leave well that’s what you want us to believe can you tell us what is wrong with a chav or oik or riff raff ?
As usual you have told me nothing again you seem so sure of this explain how they are going about it
I dunno, if I wanted to find out about brexit I wouldn't be on a swingers forum asking strangers to explain it.
Just as i thought, you do not know.Thats cleared that up.
Correct. I do not know what you don't know, or why you're demanding information about something you claim you voted for, from randomers on a swingers forum.so you cant tell me how all these billionaires are benefiting directly then?
I could. But why do you want to learn about brexit from randomers. Why didn't you look into it before voting for it?
Anyhow. I don't want to discourage the "brexit is a good idea" people from posting. It's all good.
Crack on. Maybe JRM can muster some unicorns from is nanny's handbag. which eu rule has been repelled to enable these people to make more money? Come on you must know . "
None yet, as "getting Brexit fine" still has us negotiating over Northern Ireland and full regulations have only just been introduced.
Now the opportunities are just opening up:
From City AM
"Conflict of interest claims: While looking for Brexit opportunities, Jacob Rees-Mogg holds stake in $8bn emerging market investment fund"
Lots of Vote Leave and Tory party donors also paying for the odd bit of decorating and expecting nothing in return too... |

We all do need to do what we can. Some individual opportunities will arise. Certainly there are more jobs in logistics as shipping has become more complicated and expensive.
However, as has been pointed out, we will have to continue to work to EU regulations of we want to export there. If there is a divergence it will add additional work.
The suggestions for the automotive industry so far have been to remove some safety requirements which leads to a smaller, specialised UK market that some companies may enter with lower barriers to entry but will not be able to export from.
Also, we will have to accept what is not positive about Brexit as much as what is to be able to improve anything.
The non-business reasons that many people give about "sovereignty" and "freedom" do not actually help with exports and regulations. |

"Simply because they are still in their stagnated position with less funds there is no benefit for them and exactly why they didn't want the uk to leave.
Those who voted for this deserve what they get - it is the people who didn't whom I feel sorry for.
if they are why do you constantly go on about it? It seems to me it’s only remainers who can’t get over it the rest of us feel no need to keep posting about the eu even though it is in crisis "
LOL WTF? You absolutely love posting about how badly the EU is doing.
Moving on, though; is it ok to ask if there are enough Brexit Opportunities - and it's just silly to suggest there are none at all - to negate the impact of all the harm that the cost of living increases/inflation, etc are going to cause to those UK citizens are poor and vulnerable?
I'm not sure there are enough - but if there are, feel free to list them. |

I agree with you totally an individual can take stock and look for another job as long as their finances and family situation can adapt too . A business doesn’t have that luxury. They may have built up a customer portfolio over years being sharp and competing with European based manufacturers. I’ll try an analogy.
If you’re earning say £50k a year but your fine as your bills are £40k . Then along come Brexit and your bills are now £55k . How do you adapt to that large increase? And remember your competitors prices haven’t changed so if you don’t find a way to get that £15k saved you will also lose the £50k you once had as your income will be gone.
If you manage with a bit of cutting you get to £48k you can compete but can you invest as much and can you cope with proportionally ever increasing costs compared to your competitors? ( logistics & customs)
Figures exaggerated to highlight the point so please don’t ask is that real? It’s the principal for clarity. |

Understood and a helpful analogy. I appreciate for some companies it would be harder to adapt. I was referring to the individual as you rightly spotted.
The capitalist cycle of creation and destruction in this case would result in the individuals escaping to join other companies who can adapt whilst the company collapses or closes. Sad but it is the way of capitalism. Frustrating because it would be avoidable. But you could argue that the adaptation had 5+ years of managing the ‘risk’ and 3+ of managing the reality of that risk
Materialising into an issue. And obviously of little comfort for SMEs who are stuck in a niche market with spiralling costs, a dwindling market and high barriers to change. |

"Rees-Mogg has been appointed Minister for Brexit Opportunities.
Tbf, this is the only known job that has been created by Brexit, so it could be seen as a benefit
Yes but they werent created, there were vacated. Mostly by Eastern Europeans |

….:
Figures exaggerated to highlight the point so please don’t ask is that real? It’s the principal for clarity.
Understood and a helpful analogy. I appreciate for some companies it would be harder to adapt. I was referring to the individual as you rightly spotted.

The rules were introduced on the 23rd of December so one week to plan. We pestered customs and border force for two years prior and they had no answers. You can’t plan for the unknown. The rules that were introduced were changed two weeks in to avoid the queues of trucks at Dover as the system didn’t work. The trucks queued inland out of sight instead. The U.K. government weren’t ready. But they blamed business.
There are some large organisations who will need to change their operations which have been affected negatively not just SMEs. They can move at will due to ability to fund.
Unfortunately it’s not niche market either as the extra costs are across the board to multiple countries and multiple product markets.
The worry is 45% of our international trade is affected. Definitely not just niche.
I like you’re optimism but whilst business has to adapt and innovate, it’s can’t survive on hope and wishful thinking. Reality is additional costs damage business .
And to think it’s all self inflicted harm |

3) As even the Mail and Express are now printing negative Brexit stories, Boris thinks that deploying the Mogg will help to keep the working class oiks, chavs and riff-raff on side by appealing to their cap doffing instincts when confronted by an old Etonian plumb chewer.
I have said it before
The way some of you talk about the Working class is an actually an embarrassment
The way a lot of the working class keep voting for a corrupt mob that fuck them over every time they are in power is way more embarrassing
Point proven"
Just stating a fact. The old saying "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" comes to mind. I wonder what the answer is to Fool me ten times?
