How can this report be published now that the police have asked her to make minimal reference to anything they are investigating ?

Probably means the report is either going to be;

A) released after the met have investigated

B) released with the parties the met is investigating left out but still has the other stuff she's investigated in it

If the Met are investigating the most serious breaches the report will therefore only cover minor ones and won't be as damning.

Fair enough.... If the met deems the breaches serious, then the fallout will be more than that of the report

Either way it’s looking good be watered down and delayed giving Boris enough time and wiggle room to avoid a direct question.

Mixed messages from the police. Print it all and then hang on a min err no not that bit, oh and not that bit. Even during a police investigation this man is surrounded by chaos.

Not sure whether to laugh or despair at this government. Where are the serious Tories and why are they putting up with this muppet? Saying he got Brexit done and quick injections won’t pay people’s ever increasing bills .

Another labour fuck up, we would probably have the report in full by now if gobby rayner had kept her mouth shut and stopped keep going on for the need for a police prosecution.

PMSL, so the MET take their orders from Rayner and the Labour Party? The longer this drags on the better for labour, Boris destroying the Tory party, what scandal will be next

Gives Boris time to buy off more of his own MPs with 'policy announcements', keep the NI increase back as a further incentive if it goes to a no confidence vote..

Events, dear boy events will get him through this latest example of just how utterly bereft of any principles other than 'me, me, me' he actually is..

The Met had stopped listening to anyone till Gray gave them the evidence that the law had been broken, Dick laid that out to the GLA..

Tbh I think they wanted to stay out of it and sit on the fence for political reasons but they have no choice now..

Tetchy, you said it was a ‘labour fuck up ‘ and we would probably have the report if ‘gobby raynor had kept her mouth shut’ why is any of this relevant to the MET investigation?

Of course they have no choice labour have been calling for them to investigate for a long time if enough complaints are made they are obliged to look into it. labour shot themselves in the foot yet some are trying to spin it that somehow the tories have instigated this to delay the report.

Now the MET are officially investigating, it opens up all sorts of legal complexities.

Everything has to be done properly, should the MET decide to proceed with any prosecutions.

They aren’t ‘obliged ‘ to do anything, they look at the evidence then make a decision, I am glad the MET are investigating,

That's a risk for the party which as host shows is more aligned to staying in power and not afraid to cull a 'popular' leader..

I think his actions and those under him for which he as the boss having allowed cut right through the whole of our society and it will long remain, every birthday or passing date of a loved one for whom families never got to say a proper goodbye will remind people of who did what and who pissed on their shoes as he did what he liked..

The Mets stance changed very publicly after Sue Gray's investigation informed them of that which they are now formally looking into..

Cressida Dick said so at the GLA..

Several others, political parties and the families group were asking them to be more proactive but they had put out a statement which only changed when contacted by the Gray inquiry team..

"If the Met are investigating the most serious breaches the report will therefore only cover minor ones and won't be as damning. "

Maybe the Covid breaches arent the most 'serious'?. Its quite black and white when it comes to the Covid rules and no doubt the Sue Green report has given the Met all it needs in that respect.

But its not entirely unfeasable that the Met may be looking at 'misconduct in a public office' or given that there were reports of Downing street telling people to 'clear their phones of incriminating WA messages and pics' that there could be 'conspiracy to pevert the course of justice'.

The police are duty bound to look at all offences, so releasing the report wouldnt be a good idea as it could 'tip' off whats been said and by whom, much easier to catch someone out in a lie when you already know what everyone esle has said but the other person doesnt.

Of course it could all be to buy time for Boris to get support from his MP's and the police are just playing into an already calculated political move.

I suspect the outcome is some senior civil servant is fined for 'organising breaches' and then dismissed, Boris isnt found criminally liable even though he attended and the Tories all stick up and say 'told you so' time to move on.

"It was Conservative appointed Civil Servant Sue Gray who showed her report to the Met who then decided to investigate"

The problem is that if she finds that there is any potential legal law breaking, she is obligated to pass it on for criminal referral.. it shouldn’t be the met to investigate, it should have been passed to the IPCC who should have asked for another force to investigate!

Unless they are basically going to publish it redacted I don’t see the point of the report

"MET now appear to be saying that they haven't held up the publication of Sue Gray's report , , "

They have asked that the serious “criminal” elements are redacted.

That means that the most serious discoveries cannot be published in the Grey report but will be in Police hands.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that this means the most serious allegations will never be published at all as the police are unlikely to publish it at a later date.

Then you hear that the ONLY person privy to the report prior to police issuing tickets and court summons, is the Prime Minister himself.

So, he gets weeks to prepare a defence. I totally agreed with the Prejudice argument in that should a fixed penalty end up in court, and unfair hearing defense could be successfully submitted.

But, why all the main party leaders cannot be put into an NDA and all given a copy on the understanding nothing is to be made public.

It now absolutly stinks!!

Am I missing something? They police have no control over what is and isn't published unless it is an illegal publication (for the most part that would be an obscene publication).

There is also no reason for them to delay publication as public knowledge of what happened will not affect the outcome since this will never be a jury trial...

If the Met are delaying this their behaviour is truly questionable (we already know that it is from some of their behaviours around the Sarah Everard case) and there needs to be a serious investigation into them themselves.

This is nothing short of censorship and people should be more outraged about it. This is police abuse of power at its finest.

That's basically what they were saying on newsnight last night. They had lawyers and politicians on, including Diane Abbott who all basic agreed there is no reason to delay. They also said it's in no ones interest to delay. The country needs this concluded one way or the other, seemed to be the United opinion

Am I the only one who sees that she was having a laugh and a bit of a giggle ?

Because it was a press run through and the quest was thrown at her so she made light of it.

But as always the press jumped on it and made it so big that she was out in a no win position.

"It’s been delivered to Boris. A statement at 3:30. He will tell us he’s read it and there is no case to answer. Move on everyone. Or, will he resign?

He will say that ‘We will have to wait until the METs investigation’ , then mention something about the vaccine roll out

Apparently he's readying some news about removing EU protections etc. That will be a good distraction for the press.

Ah yes, and publishing the benefits of Brexit , should make a good read, "

In fairness, it's a good tactic. It will work.

I have a lot of faith in the governments ability to distract the population from their utter disinterest in doing anything for the country.

The really bad part was the reference that people didn’t feel that they could have complained at the time.

Police investigating possible party in PMs flat along with eleven other “gatherings” . So twelve possible criminal events.. These cannot be included in the grey report being subject to criminal enquiry. So out of sixteen known events twelve are being investigated by the police due to confidential evidence presented by Sue Grey.

PM misleading Parliament and lying about parties in press releases could be final knife.

When he said I know what the problem is and they all shouted back YOU! Funny but so telling.

I think the telling bit was watching the Tory front bench while Starmer slammed Johnson in his speech. The lot of them looked like guilty school kids being told off by a teacher. They knew they had been caught in the shit. And they had no defence at all.

They were also very, very quiet, considering how noisy the defensive jeering tends to get when the PM is being attacked in the Commons.

"If he does not go lets see what the British public think in the next election surely thats the true test."

No, it isn't. Why? Because the FPTP system means the composition of the UK Parliament is not a representative reflection of what the majority of the voters want.

In the 2019 GE, the Tories got just under 44% of the vote - meaning the majority of the electorate did not consent to them being in government.

However, the system gave the Tories a majority of 80 seats.

If you think that's democracy, then your standards are lower than those of the people of Germany, Israel and New Zealand; to name just three.

That system is at the root of all that is currently wrong with UK politics - and this PM / Cabinet's attitude towards accountability and the truth, in particular.

Unless it's changed - and I'm aware that such change has already been rejected once - it will continue to fuel and deepen the divisions the UK is riven with.

The UK is, very obviously, not united - and Boris and his apologists are living in denial if they think that he is the man to rectify the situation.

That would be handy; but, really, it doesn't seem likely that the people of England will have it in them to develop the sort of contempt for the Tories that's required to overcome the advantage that FPTP gives them, within the next three years.

cant agree the longer this sleaze ridden chumocracy stays in power the more damage they do to the party and it chances of being re elected .I suspect there is a lot more sleaze to come out that is just as damaging that clever journalists a civil servants are holding back ready to publish should the need arrive

People keep saying that with every Tory sleaze, every Tory scandal, every Tory lie, every contract handed to their mates.

Never makes a jot of difference. They keep getting voted in.

The longer he stays the more damage he does to the Conservative party, so it no longer matters what happened today, the Met can go on and investigate, which they should do. The court of public opinion, for which the PM heavily relies on, more than his own MP's has agreed overwhelmingly that he has no credibility, and what his own MP's couldn't do now, it is left to the Electorate to put this sorry excuse for a leader out to pasture.

So sharpen your pencils and put an X for someone who isn't a tory candidate, its simple, and decisive.
