Costa Blanca Spain...

Seems like the Chinese communist party have had a high level spook in the heart of Westminster with very strong links to the Labour party.

It's being reported that former minister and Corbyn ally Barry Gardiner has had over 500k "donated" and "hundreds of thousands" has been paid to other parts of the Labour party by Christine Lee. Her son was also working in Gardiners office (now resigned).

Even the Lib Dems got in on the act with Ed Davey trousering £5000.

To be fair the Tories did give her an award for something or other but that is about it.

Now MI5 has warned MP's to beware of contact with Christine Lee who has been acting as (among other things) secretary to the Inter-Party China Group at Westminster.

While on the face of it there could be an argument that until today no-one knew of her connections in the CCP. But when someone is chucking those amounts of money around, surely someone should have asked the question.

'MI5 sent out an "interference alert" warning Ms Lee has "facilitated financial donations to serving and aspiring parliamentarians on behalf of foreign nationals based in Hong Kong and China...done covertly to mask the origins of the payments".

Labour frontbencher and former minister Barry Gardiner has been named as an MP who accepted large donations from the Chinese woman, and he confirmed her son was working for him but resigned today.'

It's actually amazing that M15 would actually announce anything like this to the general public, if they just found out about it should they not be chasing up leads and finding evidence to prosecute.

It's almost like someone thought there was nothing news worthy floating round and decided to give everyone something to talk about

That is the bit I don’t understand…

the Home Secretary and the police are both saying that this person is definitely doing “something” …. But what they are doing isn’t serious enough to be charged with breaking the law or prosecuting

In which case … it’s a weird way of saying “back off, we know what you’re doing!” By publicising it to the entire public

Like the 11 peerages given for cash to the Labour Party. Get you. Shocking stuff it really shouldn't be happening!

Amazing this stuff goes on.

At this stage that's the plain and simple truth of it. She was cleared by MI5 with the Labour Politician in question.

Ofcourse

They have fingers in so many pies

Should be also asking yourself why Chinese are also buying up British Public schools, you know the ones where most our leaders in public an private bussiness and politics end up coming from.

Trump could see it was an issue within

colleges in the US aswell but then labelled a racist when does something about it. same thing with TikTok.

China are just using the old Soviet doctrine of Active Measures

"Have to get Boris off the front page "

Is the best they can muster?

FFS, our security forces are 'on the ball' and they're considering Pritti for PM?

Apart from it coming out today, it's been going on for years while mothers been giving out the dough, son's been copying the documents and taking computer files onto a USB stick.

China's got US designed Nukes thanks to a modem stuffed into a PC in the Pentagon which was accidentally on purpose plugged into a phone line at weekends to call in and download from.

I loved PC Anywhere, it was superb software.

Bombing the Chinese Embassy in Yogoslavia in 1999 was the slap on the wrist to China for being so nawty.

Anyone who is surprised by this should perhaps look into the issue of All Party Parliamentary Groups and who is funding them, paying for trips abroad etc ..

Timing wise, hmm maybe coincidence that Boris is in the mire and Patel wants to up her standing on something given her disastrous record on controlling illegal immigration which the party base is rabid about..

Deflection? No.

I would call it a bit of a re-balance.

Boris has fucked up good style with the party issue and will (eventually) get what he deserves.

However had this been a Tory MP taking over half a million quid in "donations" (AKA Bung) from a Chinese government agent the Tory haters on here would be incandescent with faux outrage. It would be thread after thread after thread of Tory sleaze Etc. Etc.

I started this one just to balance it up a bit and remind people that the Tories do not have a monopoly on sleaze.

Amazing but true they did question it all 5 years ago.

Russians handing money to tories , Chinese to labour and we sit there thinking they are putting us first.

It’s all corrupt and needs a clear out.

The two party system we have means they know they are all ok and safe because they haven’t broken “the infamous very flexible rules!”

Fair points but be careful what you wish for.

The two party system may have a lot of faults but a quick look at the rabble now running Germany is a very good argument against big coalitions.

Yes I agree it’s hard work for the politicians which could be a good thing and might kick out the lazy ones who are their for the cash. Germany have left us in their wake economically . So can’t be too bad long term.

Italy are a basket case with it and seem to get by. Even though like the Greeks it’s a sport not to pay tax.

We have had a supposedly stable government for 30 years and yet the poor stay poor. The rich get richer. Also we have shit over crowded roads , poor social care funding poor local service provision etc etc etc . Maybe it’s worth tying to stop the dictator levels of power we have here.

Boris may go but the Tory party won’t be stopping the gagging of the press or the restrictions on who can protest, or protecting human rights, because they won’t have to listen to anyone with their ridiculous majority.

The power should be equal to votes not the system we have now. Most people didn’t vote for the tories and yet they hold total power.

I don’t want a swing to the left I just want everyone heard and for their vote to count.

Yes it does sadly . It’s not a true reflection of the population’s views. If 70% had voted Tory then fine but they didn’t .

For every vote that counts there is usually another that doesn't.

Here in Germany we have more parties than Boris and not one of them was anywhere near a majority in the last election. After 3 months of horse trading they finally cobbled together a coalition of SPD 25% (Labour ish) FDP 10% (Lib Dem ish) and Greens 14% (well just ish).

So we now have a situation where Green party policy's including votes for 16 year olds and legalising that stuff you can smoke but can't type on here (they ain't just interested in hugging trees you know) are now part of the governments agenda.

Merkels old party CDU/CSU polled 24% even AFD (love 'em or hate'em) polled more than FDP yet neither is a part of the government, while the Greens get their leader as foreign minister. Who when asked about the capital of Denmark relpied, It's that city with a mermaid (yes really)

Like I said before, the British system is far from perfect, but many of the alternatives can be much worse.

Those shares are reflecting the views of the people . Some of those views may be radical but all views are valued.

Why should a minority have control ?

If an idea is popular it will be agreed if it isn’t it won’t.

I’m wary of what it involves as we have to have a strength to deal outside our borders but for domestic need it has got to be a fairer system .

I agree it’s not perfect but what we have isn’t working for the average person it only seems to work for the rich elite.

Being fair and reasonable with all and all contributing fairly will create a more unified society . Well that’s what I think. Human nature may prove me wrong.
