French Maritime Minister Annick Girardin confirms that if the UK doesn't give out the post-Brexit fishing licenses she says French vessels are owed by the deadline at the end of today, Paris will ask Brussels to start litigation against London.
About time that the EU got tough with the spoilt child across the channel.
Sunlit uplands, unicorns, trade deals, economic growth were the promises but lies and tantrums are the reality.
With the UK about to impose duty on goods coming from the EU in January, things are only to get even worse.
They need us more than we news them seems to have gone a little stale recently. |

Remember that this is something that is being imposed by the UK goverment due to Brexit.

Interesting stance - implying that I (and others) do not like the UK.
Where do you read that?
The people who do not like the UK, the people who voted to destroy the UK economy, to treat asylum seekers like dogs (to quote a post made on this forum), to get rid of the NHS, to give peerages for cash, to support cronyism, to make the UK the laughing stock of the World are the people who blithely voted to leave the EU.
To quote many on here again...
'We know what we voted for"
Unfortunately the only thing these same people appear to know is that they wanted to leave the EU at any cost.
This itself is just a fantasy as most of them have never understood why the EU was created, what it was about and how the UK influenced it.
Someone on here suggested that the nazi party started in the EU which goes to show how mixed up people get between facts and fiction.
Yes, the people who hate the UK are the ones that pee themselves with excitement when they see an English flag yet, due to their fixation with those waving it, follow the mantra blindly whilst bringing down the reputation and standing of our once great country.
These people should be ashamed of themselves.
I love the UK and hate what some of the people in the UK have done and are doing to it. |

Hope that you are not taking it personally as it was certainly not meant that way.
You can always join many others that are now saying..
"It's not my Brexit and I'll cry if I want to"
Too close to home perhaps so let's pretend that the economy is booming.
That Covid is raging everywhere else but in the UK.
That PM's do not hide in fridges.
Let's not let the facts get in the way of what the Brexiteers like to believe shall we.
Hope that makes you feel better.. |

Bit of nuclear genocide.
If the UK nukes countries on every side, and some parts of its own country. The fall out will wipe out all life in England too.
Otherwise a sound plan. |

I read that (after wading through the quagmire of celebrity bullshit "news" in the Express).
Very amusing. The comments are comedy gold. Similar to the kind of bollocks that the pro brexit crowd here like to post. "it's just a flesh wound"!

I think jersey and maybe Guernsey gave some more fishing permits to French fishermen as they have now provided the information that was originally asked for.
I assume the duty payable from January will make EU imports more expensive. Who gets this duty money once paid- does it go to the seller? |

The vote was 'stay in or leave ' there was no mention of trade deals etc. It was a simple question.
Do you you want to stay in the EU or not.
Like many others I voted out and would do so again.
The transition from being governed to independence is going to take time and effort. It is a naturally a matter of course that the first few years will be difficult but that should improve with time.
The remainers should understand that the whole of the UK voted, and voted to leave the EU for whatever personal reasons they had at the time |

The whole of the UK did not vote.
From those who did vote, there was a slim majority to leave the EU.
Leaving the EU meant different things to different people and there were promises made of a better future amongst many other things which have been covered again and again.
Guesses at the timescales for this better future range from 5 years to 20 years which I was certainly not in any manifesto.
I would agree that eventually things will settle down but whether the UK will be better off is dubious unless the UK moves closer to the EU with trade and the single market.
At the moment, that is impossible.
Especially with this goverment.
There is also too much hatred caused by a vote which split the country.
That will not go away.
Brexit has caused a big hit to the economy (Covid also was an impact but other countries had Covid and the UK came out worse).
Trade has been lost and businesses affected - there are always exceptions.
The hatred of the EU is too great amongst a lot of people who voted to leave and that will not change.
The goverment has made the UK a global laughing stock and Johnson continues to fuel this with his lies and back peddling.
A new PM is very likely in the near future along with a new cabinet.
A softer approach to the EU and a willingness to reverse some of the red lines of this hard brexit may improve things.
The UK will not be allowed to rejoin the EU in any of our lifetimes - not that they want to - but, some changes will take place and that can only be good.
The short term future is not good and Brexit is the culprit however, things will improve, of that I am certain. |

The problem is, people who voted leave, not only fucked themselves over. But they fucked us all over.
I agree though, whatever the reason people voted leave for is irrelevant. The reality is, brexit was never meant to have any benefits to Britain or British people. |

I love the UK and hate what some of the people in the UK have done and are doing to it.please seek help to me you don’t sound like your coping very well there’s no shame in that mate but your rants are getting worse I’m not having a pop
I know, some on here are obsessed, not funny, not clever just bitter tirade day after day.... i can only imagine that they think posting on here is changing the world in someway, when in reality its just them shouting
...and some think that the Nazi party started in the EU - oops, sorry that was you!
Or that asylum seekers should be compared to dogs - oops you again.
Talk about hatred and bitterness.
"
and then there are the liars and fantasy mind readers, by the way it was others posts the moderators removed not mine! So try again, in fact dont bother |

I have just noticed this post. Sorry, a bit slow but then I thought I should avoid the politics side of Fab because I feared I'd be upset by all the little englanders' comments. In fact your posts gave me an uplift of optimism that there are sane thoughtful caring people out there who feel the same as I do about the ridiculousness of the present "UK" (not Scotland)'s government and all their enablers, supporters and dumbos who voted for them. Thank you. |

"French Maritime Minister Annick Girardin confirms that if the UK doesn't give out the post-Brexit fishing licenses she says French vessels are owed by the deadline at the end of today, Paris will ask Brussels to start litigation against London.
What duty is coming in from January?
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/less-than-a-month-until-full-customs-controls-are-introduced
Remember that this is something that is being imposed by the UK goverment due to Brexit.
"
Or the fact it is required by wto regulation. |

Think I'll give a miss to re joining an EU where it thinks that if you have incoming shipments over 900 euros in 12 months means your are in importer. Some states now need their citizens to give their PID to retailers outside the EU, not just the UK, so they can receive shipments.
Unelected dictators are watching them closely it seems. |

And here we are with at one point 19 people working as ministers in this government who have not received a single vote from anyone. Only Boris voted for them.
Then there’s the small fact 50% of MPs are selected by head office not constituencies. So your told who you can vote for. True democracy at work I think not.

"The vote was 'stay in or leave ' there was no mention of trade deals etc. It was a simple question.
Do you you want to stay in the EU or not.
Like many others I voted out and would do so again.
The transition from being governed to independence is going to take time and effort. It is a naturally a matter of course that the first few years will be difficult but that should improve with time.
The remainers should understand that the whole of the UK voted, and voted to leave the EU for whatever personal reasons they had at the time "
You probably had some reasons for voting leave, but as far as I can see many people voted leave based on the reasons presented to them by the "leave campaign" and many of the promises and benefits have proven to be lies.

We have. It's shit. There are no benefits. The people who wanted to leave fed a mountain of bullshit to the voters.
Still, the funny thing to remember is, people still think brexit is a good idea. 18% according to a recent survey! Haha. Absolutely bonkers.

Incredible that you believe this to be the case.
But then again I know you are not alone in still thinking this way despite having seven years of this subject being high on the news agenda and all the facts being available. |

We haven't left yet except on a treaty which we, apparently, didn't agree with when we signed it.
We are still negotiating.
We are still paying.
We haven't imposed all of the leaving conditions yet.

Hardly a treaty, simply a bit of breathing space to thrash out the way forward
We are still negotiating
Yup, still no way forward
We are still paying
Nope, our contributions to the EU budget finished a year ago, some on-going commitments remain are finished
We haven't imposed all of the leaving conditions yet
Yup, the real fun starts 1 January 2022
Do you not know this?

Shame we're not in the EU then. We wouldn't have to negotiate with them and we'd be a part of a big trading block to get the best deals for the UK.
Oh well.

Well, actually, the point was that we are still negotiating leaving the EU...which you think that we have left. Even though we signed a treaty agreeing the terms.
You do not understand that?
You don't believe that is happening?
You didn't know that's what is happening?
You are deliberately changing the subject? |

And then comes along rules of origin. A train smash waiting to unfold it seems. Strange why we won't be able to use 'EU' but have to identify each country by its country code. We process material from all over the EU and sell it back. |

"it's clear that the bonfire of red tape is an ever increasing pile which will clearly never ever be lit, but will instead weigh down any improvement in the country.
"
The red tape that's gone so far is food safety, clean rivers, tax avoidance, etc. Things the benefit rich people, big business etc.
Although this is heavily out weighed by the mountains of additional red tape for individuals, small businesses buying and selling with the EU.
