Is apparently being considered.
Ignoring the irony that some injections bare needed for passports and some may mean you lose them...
Would you see this measure as being sensible or an over reach ? |

What gets me is that they are saying that they everyone who takes any kind of recreational drug is dependent and out of control
There’s thousands who take drugs and still get on as normal in their everyday lives and are quite successful and not at all what they portray as an addict.

Johnson admitted to using cocaine. So did Gove. And others. There has also been a recent story that cocaine traces were found all over Westminster.
What will happen to their passports? |

Their own could be open to being taken, but they all have a sort of diplomatic passport, don't they? |

I wonder how many kids have been stabbed by other drug gangs just so you can have your fun? |

Time to crack down on drug driving who are usually behind the wheel of Mercedes, Audi and BMWs.
I am sick of following cars or passing in the opposite direction with the strong smell of week behind them.
Are these drivers really capable of avoiding a child in the event of an emergency stop?

Just think of all the actors who won't be able to travel to film locations and singers who wouldn't be able to tour anymore, so stupid.
In all reality that won't happen and I would think unenforceable.
As normal government is looking for votes.
The war on drugs is a pointless exercise. |

Indeed. A costly crusade that has gone on for decades and yet we are still where we are.
Perhaps it’s time to end the war and spend the money on something else. |

Yep exactly, but if they do that all the people the spending keeps in work will be unemployed so nothing changes. |

That was the trajectory up to 2010, but post- financial crash austerity cuts decimated those programmes. Agreed they are now being brought back again but that is the same story with the Government over many issues that were cut back after 2010.
“Getting tough on drug users” has been the mantra for decades and it just has not worked. |

"People from the estates will have their passports taken"
Yeah, like "people from the estates" and junkies and winos have got passports anyway! Or bother with Driving Licences (the other proposed sanction) when they steal a car.
Populist, ill-considered, knee-jerk nonsense. Again... |

I agree with the money going to rehab as its a health issue but the money going to get tough on suppliers is a waste because they'll never stop it, its not worked since day one. Usa were spending billions a year with no success. Decriminalisation like Portugal and other countries is the way forward. |

The suppliers are replaced in 10 minutes after somone is caught
The people who actually run these things are moslty untouchable annd wont even be in this country
All this will do is lower the quality of a drug and increase the price to the user. Which is exactly what happened after Cannnabis was put back up to class B |

The amount we spend on the so called ‘drugs war’ is a pittance compared to the cost of drugs to the economy which is around £20 billion per year. Personally I think we should be spending a lot more on treatment and policing. As for those who say there are lots of people out there who ‘ just use drugs for recreation’ and aren’t addicts, I have had two friends killed in the last few years by drivers who had taken drugs |

You realise im not even disagreeing with you right, there is nothing to argue about?
Or was you so excited at the thought of a disagreement with me you just jumped in there without actually thinking about it
I will go with the second
I am all for the decriminalisation of drugs, or atleast have that discussion
But decriminalisation and legalisation are to different things. Cigarettes for example are legalised and regulated not decriminalised. Cannabis in Amsterdam for eexample is decriminalised and not legal. I also dont know how tax is applied at the point of sale
As far as i know you cannot collect taxation on something that is decriminalised as it is not regulated. Growing tobacco for example is legal aslong as you pay a tax stamp when you have grown a certain weight

I asked you a very simple polite question, you chose to have a rant.
You insinuated my position is to keep them illegal
Otherwise "How's keeping it illegal working out?" is just a pointless statment as that was never my posistion in the first place neither does my comment even suggest that. Some may say its a strawman
I would suggest you stop the bad faith arguements, makes you look petty.
Especially when i always prove you wrong
You seldom prove anyone anything.
You chose to read something one way so it allowed you go on a rant.
"
You believe that then.
any other replies you make to me will be ignored so i wouldnt waste your time |

"Just think of all the actors who won't be able to travel to film locations and singers who wouldn't be able to tour anymore, so stupid.
The amount we spend on the so called ‘drugs war’ is a pittance compared to the cost of drugs to the economy which is around £20 billion per year. Personally I think we should be spending a lot more on treatment and policing. As for those who say there are lots of people out there who ‘ just use drugs for recreation’ and aren’t addicts, I have had two friends killed in the last few years by drivers who had taken drugs "
Im sorry to hear that. I might be reading it wrong but the majority of people take them for recreation. |

Perhaps it’s time to end the war and spend the money on something else. Isnt this exactly what the government are doing? much more money for drug rehab so to get more people off drugs rather than just locking them up where they can get drugs easier than outside.
That was the trajectory up to 2010, but post- financial crash austerity cuts decimated those programmes. Agreed they are now being brought back again but that is the same story with the Government over many issues that were cut back after 2010.
“Getting tough on drug users” has been the mantra for decades and it just has not worked.I think the mantra is now get tough on suppliers and rehab the users personally i cant see anything wrong with that.
I agree with the money going to rehab as its a health issue but the money going to get tough on suppliers is a waste because they'll never stop it, its not worked since day one. Usa were spending billions a year with no success. Decriminalisation like Portugal and other countries is the way forward. I agree it’s never going to work take the dealers out by decriminalisation and tax it same as ciggies that will more than pay for the rehab
Doesnt something need to be legalised before you are able to gain taxation on it?
How's keeping it illegal working out?
Here we are again.
You realise im not even disagreeing with you right, there is nothing to argue about?

I am all for it when it comes to Cannabis and some other drugs. I would be happy with them legalised. When its comes to stuff like Heroin and Crack i would be alot more hesitent. I dont think you should be able to walk into what would be our version of a Dam headshop and buy Opiates for example. |

No they will not work at all. As said about the change of Cannabis from Class C to B. All it did is increase the price as people started selling it in Grams nearly doubling the price. Did it stop anyone smoking, did it fuck. If anything its more popular than ever before.
It just wont work
Its not like they can throw people in prison in the first place as they are all full. Plus good luck getting the money for a fine off a crackhead. Im sure loosing their passport will really ruin those plans to go to Saint Moritz

It's about demand, not need. If people who want drugs simply stopped buying them it would deal with a large proportion of crime and violence involved in the supply of the drugs. |

How likely do you think it is that en mass people who use drugs will decide to stop?
Startlingly naïve viewpoint.
I barely drink but think drugs should be decriminalised. If people want to get drugs they can. From to crack it can be delivered through your door by royal mail at the moment. So that's where we are.
People are going to do drugs, that's a fact.
If you accept that then it's what do you do about it.
Offer treatment for people to get off it if they want which includes therapy to deal with the reasons they are injecting heroin into their arse at 10am on a Sunday. Tax it so it's funded and move away from police to a health based approach.
Also loads of the best music ever was made on drugs so they can't just be 'bad'.

Good lucking stopping human nature. We have been getting fucked up on substances before the dawn of time. Animals do it lol
Catnip for example
There is actually an interesting theory that the consumption of magic Mushrooms is what may have helped kickstart our move away from being proto humans. Stoned Ape theory. it's a fun idea |

The government party just showing very clearly again that they don't know what they are doing. They are repeating the same old policy yet again that always fails.
They are determined to show that they cannot and will not learn.
Ministers picked for loyalty to Johnson and below his very low standards of competence. Recipe to waste more money and lives, not to mention what could have been achieved. Some people just want to waste the country. |
