That fun filled Tory toff is in trouble with the parliamentary standards committee.

He's been taking loans from his companies at an advantageous rate, and not declared them.

There's a bi election coming up and as labour have no policies to speak of they are running on a sleaze campaign against the Tories. It may work but i doubt it most people will see its just a distraction from having no plans at all.

MPs Douglas Ross and Ed Davey are up before Kathryn Stone as well.

Both forgot to declare earnings, and referred themselves.

No action is to be taken in the investigation into Geoffry Cox.

According to him the register is for earnings not loans. The loans repaid with interest according to the rules. His company is registered with the commons. Be interesting to see the outcome of this. If he has broken the rules then should face punishment

If by taking a loan out at a lower rate than he could get at a bank, then he is taking a financial benefit from the loan.

If you do this then HMRC will tax the benefit ( from memory )

"The Government has ordered NHS trusts to describe any major refurbishments, new wings, and units as “a new hospital” as it seeks to deliver on its pledge to build 48 hospitals by 2030."

That's not a new hospital is it?

If you put a conservatory or a shed on the back of your house would you describe it as "a new house"?

He says all taxes due gave been paid and as its a loan the rules do not require it to go on the register mentioned. We only have his word on this so far and as said if he is found to be breaching the rules he should be punished

Yeah and it will be rubble in a few years.

I wouldnt trust the Chinese to build me a sandcastle

Yeah that Great Wall they built nearly three thousand years ago will never last"

the works dept was shut down by outside contractors quoting.... because works would have to cost in putting up scaffolding for example and doing the job right BUT the contractors would just lean off a ladder etc etc Im guessing the chinese have a low regard for health and safety rules, no going on a training course on how to life a box!

If you took a look before replying you would know about the terrible build quality of Infrastructure, buildings and housing in China.

Tofu-dreg projects is what they are called

Factually wrong"

Tofu-dreg project" (Chinese: ?????; pinyin: dòufuzha gongchéng) is a phrase used in China to describe a poorly constructed building. This phrase was coined by Zhu Rongji, the former premier of the People's Republic of China, on a visit to Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province to describe a poorly-built set of flood dykes in the Yangtze River.

In China, the term tofu dregs (the pieces left over after making tofu) is widely used as a metaphor for shoddy work, hence the implication that a "tofu-dreg project" is a poorly executed project for which the government should accept responsibility.

After visiting China in early 2011, Canadian journalist Lawrence Solomon stated that many Chinese people "fear that a 'tofu dam' might fail, leading to hundreds of thousands of downstream victims."

Factually Correct

China has a successful infrastructure construction program.

We couldn't get cross rail built on time and budget.

Some people on here still say they don't care about pretty much anything. But I get the feeling more and more of the public do care. And I get the feeling more and more people are really angry about certain things our government have done.

It seems the parliamentary rules are again not fit for purpose.

He hasn’t broken the law at all that’s not the question. He benefitted from a cheap loan which is a financial benefit. So the question is if financial benefits are to be declared why doesn’t this count??

It’s a bit like Boris can use a free private jet and free holidays etc but if a council employee is given a case of wine by a supplier and f doesn’t refuse it but takes it home, they may be disciplined and face possible dismissal.

Like I said , not fit for purpose.

The rules do have many problems but those who are affected can only work to the rules in place which is exactly what he has done. I agree he benefited financially but if he goes to a shop and buys something that's on a sale price he has also benefited financially so I guess there must be limits to what to declare

North Tees is in a real state, they are spending (according to the local papers) about £5 million a year on roof repairs.

The clinical staff have campaigned for a new hospital.

The trust board have campaigned for a new hospital.

Hartlepool council have campaigned for one, as have Stockton.

Having had to use the place as a patient not so long ago, it's crying out for a new hospital.

If you are in an ambulance from Hartlepool, do you want to be thinking " I hope the traffic is ok?"

North Tees provides the majority of hospital services to Hartlepool. Hartlepool simply isn't big enough to justify a full "general" hospital.

Yes it's needed.

If you are in an ambulance from Hartlepool, do you want to be thinking " I hope the traffic is ok?"

North Tees provides the majority of hospital services to Hartlepool. Hartlepool simply isn't big enough to justify a full "general" hospital.

Yes it's needed.hartlepool not big enough really ? You could say that about Stockton if you take out ingleby yarn and eaglescliff which arnt really Stockton are they where does thornaby come under ?

That's just daft.

Hartlepool population 87,000

Stockton population 197,000"

we can all get the google out lol is that number with the estates I mentioned tho ? Which know one there considers themselves from Stockton they where merged in the 70s

I do find it funny when you come out with this stuff

Your theory is based on entirely redrawing the political boundaries and rebranding a road as a motorway.

Take more water with it

As I understand it there's only going to be 2-3 new hospitals built. The rest of the promised 40 will merely be new wings and upgrades. However you slice it, that's not what was promised however not down to JRM

"It seems the parliamentary rules are again not fit for purpose.

Yes I agree with you to a point. If grandad gives his adult grand kids £100 each for Christmas it’s not an issue . If he hands over £6m I think that’s entering HMRC territory and a different issue altogether as to why . "

I don't think either of those examples are applicable in this case. It was all done within the rules with all due taxes paid as set out by parliament and HMRC.

Apparently it does have the orders for the initial project and the contract ties the company to making the parts at this Teesside facility. What I read is that the company, quite logically are trying to future proof the facility with future orders. It is these future orders they want to secure but have competition from Siemens. Fortunately for the UK whatever jobs Siemens gets will also be built here.

Smogg is the 'Unthinking Man's' favourite 'Thinking Man'.

He will always be applauded for his promotion and utilization of 'light-touch regulation' and championing of British financial innovation to remain a true Tory billionaire. But innovation and off-shore accounts only for his benefit, Dublin's and his chum's of course... not for the Somerset poor who voted for him. They're too busy doffing their caps and tugging their forelocks to notice or care as long as Greggs, Bet-Fred and 'Spoons stay open.

I can almost taste the disdain that some of you have for the "working class". Its quite telling in how some of you talk about the "forelock tugging" morons.

You speak about them in the same way that people spoke about "the uncivilised tribesman" in Victorian times. You will be measuring their skulls next to calculate intelligence.

You might aswell just start referring to them as the Proles while listening to the 120 minutes of hate brought to you by O'Brien
