"Why should a woman's capability be judged on how she sounds "
I don't think it's about how she sounds, it's about how it's used against her. Remember, Ed Miliband's capabilities were judged on how he ate a bacon sandwich |

Same can be said of any male
Politician too. It just so happens the news is about a reshuffle involving (directly or indirectly) a female MP. I don't think gender/sex has anything to do with it.
Her eloquence, political charisma and ability to coherently deliver a message are however important factors that contribute to how electable she is. She is clearly electable at a local level. She may not be at a national level. Opinions may however vary. |

Why should northern accents sound bad to southerners. That seems to be the reality of this question but joking aside no one could stand JC because he spoke the truth and unfortunately truth is not good in politics anymore in this country as facing reality is not wanted anymore . KS and Bojo are just both stooges of the real controlling group in British Politics that no one dare say openly |

Not quite 50/50 but 4 of 10 of most recent PMs have been northerners.

Labour have lost the socialist vote in Scotland to the SNP and in the north of England where they had seats with huge majorities less than ten years ago they’ve lost to the tories. Well apart from Liverpool. The reason is surely not because that Boris sells is so well? I can understand it in Scotland as the snp are a better socialist option for them |

While it is clearly completely unjust this is indeed correct. The right accent does help. Different accents have subliminal connotations that sadly permeate some workplaces (including politics). It’s one reason why we so many posh private school boys in Govt - an assumption they are well educated |

"Is Angela Rayner totally unelctable as a leader because of her accent ?"
Some people of definitely stupid enough to be swayed with an accent. In one of the other threads people were calling her a "bottom feeder" because she is working class and didn't goto Eton.
The electorate prefer voting for clowns with accents like Jacob Rees Mogg, even though his main policies are "how rich can I get from this", and "A fictional character tells me I have to vote against gay rights, every time". |

To be fair peppa pig aside, i find Boris far easier to listen to than AR. YC is usually far more eloquent on QT so a good face to return to the leadership team.

It should be about what words are spoken rather than the accent, unfortunately in the UK people equate a posh accent with intelligence |

A little surprising amongst all this talk of accents, regionality and class - nobody has actually pointed to the amazing policies, ability to build strong working relationships across the floor of the house and close working relationship with other party leadership colleagues and signs of strengths which like it or not should trump any accent re electability.
