Patel’s failure to start resettling Afghans

..and so it goes on...

Seems to be a common theme here in that the UK refuses to take any migrants.

Johnson promised to move heaven and earth to bring people to safety. Since then it appears he hasn’t lifted a finger to help.

Some of the refugees in France are from Afghanistan having fled the Taliban and hoped for a better life in the UK.

Should the UK turn their backs on these people as well as the others seeking asylum in the UK?

Or perhaps, Sweden should take them given they have a lot more space as someone else has pointed out on another thread.

"

The uk takes in migrants and asylum seeks all the time, just not the ones you see making the news

But I agree we do need to sort something out with the boat crossings along a safer route.

These people want to work not sponge off the state.

"Some of the refugees in France are from Afghanistan having fled the Taliban and hoped for a better life in the UK."

And how do we know these are not actually Taliban?

Fleeing the Taliban doesnt make you defacto good either

You don't.

If you assumed that every refugee fleeing from oppression was perhaps an oppressor then no refugee would be accepted in any country.

Asylum seekers are not simply just granted asylum, they are vetted and have to meet criteria as laid out by the Gov't.

Do you think that this is perhaps the reason why Patel had not moved forward with her promise (which was well publicised in the UK media) from August to aid those in Afghanistan?

Not every UK Local Authority has signed up to the Refugee Dispersal scheme.

Those that have, have a serious housing stock shortage.

What a pity that Johnson and Patel made promises to these people who helped British troops, risking their own lives in doing so then being abandoned, without actually making sure that there was the infrastructure and willingness in place to actually meet their obligations.

Little wonder that we see more and more refugees from Afghanistan arriving in Europe (mainland Europe) as, after so many months of apparent inaction by the UK goverment and with the risk of the Taliban punishing them for aiding the British, they have little option but to flee.

Fortunately, as seems to be the case these days more often than not, other countries are cleaning up the mess left by the British.

The British Gov't and a lot of the British people, certainly seem to have washed their hands of any responsibility.

im sure most didn't help the British as you say or the french or america for those that did definitely we should be helping but I feel a lot of afgans haven't help there self's to much tribal interference was never going to succeed until there own people stand up to the leaders and Taliban then we should never have helped.

If you want to start annew thread do discuss what happened in Afghanistan, why the Afghan army failed, why nobody foresaw ahwhst would happen, why the Americans withdrew so quickly forcing the British to do the same etc.etc. be my guest.

This thread is about the promise made by Johnson, Patel and the British to take those who helped the British troops and are now at risk.

I agree the afghans as a nation rolled over BUT i also think we need to home those that we promised we would. Just keep the good afghans (the definition of good being defined by us)
