"Have you asked them, or found any that are unhappy? He must be doing somrthing right, as he keeps increasing his majority on every single GE since 2005!" Would you be happy at your MP buggering off to the Caribbean, and getting paid a shitload at the same time, while he was supposed to be here serving you?

You do know how law works? 2 sides, both get paid! If he was laying bricks or if he's arguing with a wig on.... he is entitled to be paid for work done. Whoever defended myra Hindley got paid to, that's what lawyers do! Sorry!

He is paid as an MP to represent his Constituents and act as a Representative if HMG and protect the rights of the citizens of the country. He is seeking personal gain by fighting a Department of the Government that he represents.

I know what youre saying, but his job by default means he might defend people/ideas etc that some of his voters dont like.... will he have to fall on his sword? Jamie Oliver was made to back track for telling the truth about fat kids lol so yes he might have to!

"He will probably be out next election anyway MPs should be paid a lot more but on the proviso that it’s their only job and they cannot take on extra work. I’m sure that someone will come back with an argument why not but that’s the debate " I do agree, for the work and experience that we assume an MP should have, they would be quite high up in an organisation. Though 80k odd a year is a lot of money, it is not really for that level of executive/manager. If you pay (relative) peanuts you get (corrupt) monkeys. I want an MP to be a better level of public employee than the headmaster of a school.

I want an MP to be a better level of public employee than the headmaster of a school. what skills should they have?" If they are ministers then skills applicable to the job. MOD procurement qualification for definite because they pay too much for nuts and bolts, along with hopefully some strategy skills. . Transport - a logistics degree Health - some healthcare qualification Justice . - more than four years as a junior lawyer ( RAAB is now re writing national law FFS ) Treasury - at least a masters in economics. Also I think they should be jobs for the longer term not all this swapping about. How can a ministry be run effectively by someone who is only there for a year. It will take six months to work out who’s who. Professional politicians should probably be banned. All they are qualified for is how to avoid answers that are a clear yes or no. It’s embarrassing to think these slimy, sloped shouldered spivs are in charge. We have become a nation driven by sound bite politics. I would pay politicians more but not let them have any consultancy roles. Doctor yes lawyer yes but limited to say 10 hours per week. Also when they lose their seat or retire. Keep them on pay for four years so no follow on jobs for helping a company or individual of the public out.

"Tramp you have a remarkable gift for totally missing the point. "Have you asked them, or found any that are unhappy? He must be doing somrthing right, as he keeps increasing his majority on every single GE since 2005!" There were plenty unhappy on nearly every news outlet yesterday..

"If the rules say he can work elsewhere, then that’s one thing, but for me a serving MP & an ex minister being paid by a foreign tax haven to help them avoid proceedings brought by the very same Government who he is supposed to represent in the house is such a big red flag that he needs turfing out. You may as well be a copper by day & a getaway driver at night & say it’s ok because you don’t speed, therefore you broke no rules. S" Robbing banks is illegal defending an argument isn't. ..... I think it's distasteful.... like defending a rapist in court... but thats the problem, he isn't a rapist until after the case is lost. So you have to have the process.

Im not arguing its morally right, im arguing he is within the boundaries of practice laid down" I didn't say he was breaking the rules. I simply showed how ludicrously Cox has behaved. (And it highlights how nonsensical the "rules" are if somebody can get away with this sort of behaviour.) You're still missing the point. So I'll make it clearer. When he's not working as an MP, that thing that's supposedly his actual real job, is he working as an MP? (Therein lies the problem with MPs having 2nd , 3rd, 4th etc jobs.)

"Tramp you have a remarkable gift for totally missing the point. It feels like your superpower. slut, you are the one who posted this, who seems angry? lol why do i seem angry? because ive asked if you have legal training of the standard cox does? lol It seems that you are the one getting annoyed, Sorry, ill just agree with you and stroke your ego That was a joke *sigh* I'll ask again: Do you honestly think a serving UK MP should work 4000 miles away on another job? Yes, he is allowed to have more than one job, many do.... who was the female who went on I'm a celebrity in the jungle..... doreen.... isn't she still an MP? I'm guessing you mean Tory MP Nadine Dorries. Yes she's an MP. Frankly, she shouldn't be. You're not making the best argument here. So and so stuck to the rules too, even though they blatantly were not doing their job as an MP too. This is the point you seem unwilling or unable to accept. If an MP is many miles away doing something else, they're blatantly not doing their job of being an MP. Do you see? no, people use zoom, the doctor uses zoom he could be anywhere, you dont have to be in a place to be working for that place! Do you see, she said in a condescending manner? Ah you clearly don't see. If a Dr is using zoom to do their job as a Dr, they're still working as a Dr. Do you possibly think there's an issue with an MP not spending their time doing the important job of being an MP? If instead they are, to take a random example, 4000 miles away on a Caribbean island advising a foreign government on dodging corruption charges, they're not spending that time working as an MP. He was apparently using it to work on his other job. That's probably going to be the thing that trips him.

He apparently skipped at least 12 parliamentary votes when he was doing his moonlighting too. That could come back to bite him as well.

So you now agree with me that him working away from home is acceptable. people do that, write for the new york times but live in london! Its possible. Contact councils and constituents via email and zoom etc etc, its all possible. however youre now changing tact and throwing in other issues you have... you dont like how he behaved, boo hoo.... youre boring me! He can be voted out

" no, people use zoom, the doctor uses zoom he could be anywhere, you dont have to be in a place to be working for that place! Do you see, she said in a condescending manner?" That would make for a really good argument……. Except….. the shape and the location of the windows in the office would suggest he was in portcullis house… which would make it government property And you are not allowed to do a 2nd job in government offices … that’s a no no!!! We can always get the IP address if we need to…hmm .. just where is that whistling emoji when you need it…. Many can be condescending…. Can’t we! Also… using mp absentee voting rules brought in for covid so you didn’t have infected people travelling.. and using it to vote whilst in the BVI doing your 2nd job…. Not really within the spirit of the rules… is it!

If I do a job in works van and then on way back take some stuff to tip, for example, i would think my boss pretty petty for pulling me up on it.... how many have a works biro in their pocket? lots.... the thread is sanctimonious cat calling... i said right at start of thread its a bit distasteful but ultimately he hasnt broken any rules... just tory toff bashing going on, it is bullying to bash toffs for being toffs but they have no special rules to protect them, perhaps they better bring in new legislation

It is to keep a line between working in your own interest and working for the people…. The classic example always given is House of Commons stationary People on all sides have been caught out… people on all sides have been disciplined for it!!! "... its you who misses the point, you are so wrapped up into slagging off boris or whoever it is you think is a wanker, you seem to fail to realise that more people think he isnt a wanker... " I wouldn't count on that! (more people think he isnt a wanker)
" He must be doing somrthing right, as he keeps increasing his majority on every single GE since 2005 ... he got stuck on an island due to covid travel restrictions, so thinks fuck it, ill do some work, yes he is well paid, all top lawyers are! " How did anyone with even half a brain manage to get 'stuck on an island due to covid travel restrictions'? Surely it should be blindingly obvious that during coronavirus is not a clever time to be travelling anywhere where it might be difficult to get back home from with conditions likely to change almost overnight. I have been going to Tobago in the winter for the past 25 years until covid came along and also home to Jersey every September until 2019. Fortunately I have half enough brain to realise that staying put is the wisest choice and in over 18 months have not been more than about 20 miles from home. Perhaps Mr Cox's fawning constituents might have even more respect for him if he had exhibited similar caution?

"Tramp does seem increasingly deperate to defend Cox. It's a level of forelock tugging I've never seen before." youve already agreed he hasnt broken the rules! You seem desperate to make a case against a man you have said hasnt broken the rules lol I think cox is a fat oaf but fat oafs and every other minority group can not be put on trial just because you dont like them! I think plenty of people would put a man slut in the stocks and throw things at them

"Sir Geoffrey, 61, the MP for Torridge and West Devon since 2005, has continued to practise as a barrister. Yes he has been doing two jobs since 2005! and has been getting re elected. Looks like his constituents see it all very different but perhaps they arent tory haters? " But maybe now they know the kind of extra money he has been making on the side their views might change a smidge
