And damned well should be and should have been done years ago.
Long overdue.
I have worked on a Wastewater Works and when I submitting a report in regards to storm overflow and higher volumes due to catchment area development- more bottoms shitting down the pot and more roofs and drains being connected.
I was told to delete it and don't cause any more attention to it.
The works I was on was originally built in 1932, upgraded in 1984 and when I left had NEVER had any expansion added in respect to additional load and flow from drains and toilets.
I left 20 years ago. Planning allows 1000s of new houses to be built, yet water companies are not under any obligation to treat higher volumes of flow and loading. 3000 houses built near me in the last 4 years, there has been no Wastewater expansion provisioned yet they still charge the full rate on water bills - pure profit.
Storm tank water got nothing but a few hours settling and at time of leaving before being dumped into the Mersey with no screening for rags, condoms and sanitary products although, I believed it was later screened as a primary treatment.
The idea of storm tanks us to trap the surge which contains a lot of wash out to then overflow the more diluted effluent, storm water later being put through treatment once flows drop. Some days the plant was discharging non stop for days on end.. |

When there is a storm the storm water and sewage either goes back into houses or waterways.
Recent investments into stormwater tanks is welcome but even these can get full and need to be discharged.
This is basic physics |

Agree, but...
Many companies have failed to invest in tanks and increase capacity at treatment works both on the storm and treatment sides.
Failing to increase actual normal treatment means storm water is released at lower flow rates.
In the years I was in the industry, I never saw any increase in actual treatment capacity itself. This meant more flow went to diversion and longer periods of storm tanks kept full thus not freeing up capacity for new inflows.
Many sites population rating was lower or close to the actual population it served with little reservesfor new-builds. |

Who'd have thunk it, eh?"
You think this didn't happen when water was nationalised? |

If they had invested which they singularly have failed to do but the cry of we cant afford to improve expand and invest holds no water with me . |

Water pollution was far worse when water was nationalised.
It has improved amazingly since privatisation |

That was mainly due to it being highly regulated, EU regulations.
Another own goal from you. |

Not at all. You simply don't understand Brexit which is actually about making our own laws.
We now have the freedom to strengthen our laws. Or weaken them. It's up to us, no-one else.
Talking of own goals, have you checked up on the Daily Mail yet? |

Daily Fail, yup it's still a brexitrimist paper.
If brexit was all about making our own laws, why did the Brexitter leaders concentrate on hating forums?
Can I politely suggest you try harder? |

But you were slagging off the Daily Mail because you thought it supported Brexit. You didn't know it supported Remain.
Even when I provided evidence of the change you carried on with your claim.
For some reason |

Basic physics. And why some or all of the tens of £billions in dividends shouldn't have been dividends but invested into the creation of fit for purpose capacity. |
