Will unemployment rise after furlough ends?

The most recent figures show 1.6 million people were on furlough at the end of July- the lowest level since the start of the pandemic and 340,000 fewer than a month earlier.
The numbers have dropped as the economy has reopened.
However, some employers with workers on furlough may find that they cannot afford to keep them on.
International travel - and other businesses which depend on it, are still seriously disrupted. Some furloughed workers in these areas may lose their jobs.
Many forecasters, including the Bank of England, are expecting a small rise in unemployment after furlough ends.
For those that do lose their jobs, the number of vacancies is at a record high - so there are plenty of employers looking to hire new workers.
With over a million people still on furlough will this number be a transferable amount to move to the unemployment line?
or will the million job opportunities currently posted in various forms cushion the impact?

I would think it will at first until people get their selves sorted out but suspect a lot of people who know their job is not going to be there after furlough have already made alternative plans. |

Seems almost impossible not to rise with so many coming of furlough at the same time but it had to end one day. Be interesting to see how many return to employment either at their original place or new place. Best of luck to them all |
