I was just wondering why the usual suspects are not up in arms about the USA policy of forcing people onto planes and flying them back like they were when Trump was building a wall?

Yes, now i would have thought that the people who were banging on about the injustice of trumps wall would have been up in arms about this but nothing, nada.

Can you imagine if it had been the other way round though? 15 threads multiple unlos, bans the works.

Probably for the best to be honest the politics forum has been quite pleasant lately.

I'm seeing VP Kamala Harris approval rating is falling consistently.

Didn't Joe Biden task her to get a grip on US immigration?

It's not always the actions that matter but who carries those actions out that matter far more

It might be because, unlike you, they have more immediate concerns?

I'm not saying US immigration policy isn't important to them - no matter who's doing it, and in what manner - but when you're facing a cut in your UC, and a steep rise in your energy bills; maybe you don't have time to give a fuck?

As for "the usual suspects" not being able to see both sides of an argument - that's fucking rich coming from you! LOL

Remind me, if you can, when the last time was that you criticised anything Boris, or his Cabinet, have said or done?

Only kidding. I know you're literally incapable of it.

P.S. Happy to be proven wrong on that point.

A bonus that's ended. Ok. It's still money that won't be available to help pay for increasing energy bills.

However you categorise it, the reality is an increase in hardship for millions of poor people.

It's avoidable - even quite a few senior Tories think so.

so if you know its a bonus thats being stopped why did you say they are cutting u.c,ah thats right it sounds a lot worse saying its a cut than saying its a bonus thats being stopped.funnily enough you have never said anything about those on jsa not getting a 20 quid bonus on there money but hey thats not been on the news so you wont have an opinion on that, just be honest and say you will critasize anything bozo does because you belive all the other politicians have the publics best intrests at heart.truth is the torys are blatant about what they do whereas the others do the same shit they just try to dress it up a bit more so it dosent seem so bad.bit like biden and trump same shit exept one of them dosent say mean things

A case for maintaining the UC uplift? Good for you. As I said, I'm happy to be proven wrong.

As you know, I'm not impressed by the Government but I have acknowledged - forced into it, or not - that they've been doing the right thing by adopting socialist policies to alleviate the UK's difficulties, lately.

I'm on UC - both the JSA and Housing Benefit elements. I have two jobs and I got the uplift.

I'll miss it and I'll have to cope - but I'm not vulnerable, or disabled and I don't have any dependent children.

I'll be ok. Millions of others won't.

Bit like 50,000 “new” nurses or 40 brand new hospitals then? ??

Personally I think with rising prices everywhere there is reason to keep this uplift.

JSA is one of the elements of UC. You have to be looking for work - even if, like me, you are in work - to qualify for it. The idea is that, eventually, you find a job that pays well enough for you to come off UC altogether.

That hasn't happened for me, or many others - yet.

As for your mates, they should get advice regarding their circumstances. It may well be that they don't qualify for the JSA element of UC. I don't know.

One more thing to consider; the loss of the uplift will, indeed, be a cut in UC, to all the people who had to sign on in the wake of Covid. It was already in place, at that point, for the vast majority of them - some 1.8 million additional claimants.

Hopefully, they'll all have jobs to go to soon, and that will render the point moot.

I was under the impression that there were jobs everywhere and we need to import workers from abroad maybe those i.8 million can fill them first.

Indeed. I thought the idea was that we wouldn't need to import workers. Certainly, we're being told there's more vacancies than workers and that's why wages are rising. Not much evidence of it at the bottom end of the job market yet; I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Have to say though, a low paid job IS better than no job at all - as long as you're not actually being exploited.

Work's work, after all.
