Ancient proverb say "If you bolt the stable door after the horse has bolted, you won't get kicked in the knackers by the bolting horse"
I note that Boris called an emergency COBRA meeting after the Afghan Prime Minister had reportedly fled the country.
I also note that the UK / British / English parliament will be recalled as a matter of emergency sometime next week. Possibly.
Either there's something we've not been told, or there's something we don't know about the whole Afghan stuff.
Fishier than Grimsby docks after a trawler lands its catch 3 week late. |

There's a great old Yes Minister clip that seems v relevant. It's about how they delay and do nothing, saying there's noting they can do. Then at the end they say maybe there's something they could have done, but it's too late now.

The pace of change and the pace of the Taliban in Afghanistan over the last 8 days has been rapid to say the least.
Some random shit I've noticed over the last few days:-
* Most of the leaders of the Taliban don't seem to be resident in Afghanistan.
* Kabul seems to have been taken by the Taliban without fighting or gunshots. Unlike most of the other cities.
* Capitulation and surrender without a fight seems to have been the most frequent outcome of Taliban takeovers.
* I'm watching the Russian reaction closely. Putin isn't stupid, also there are many countries ending in "istan" who know how successful the Russia has become since the fall of communism.

Most of those leaders living outside of Afghanistan are parallel Taliban organisation. More than one Taliban it seems. It's going to get interesting.
Russia sees nothing but trouble, I doubt if he wants anything to do with them. |
