I doubt it, they were relying on American forces.
Mind you, if the afghan forces weren't ready after 20 years, would they ever be?!
The pullout was too quick and chaotic. Now reports that govt forces havent been paid, not given enough food, ammo, and wounded arnt getting evacuated quick enough.

Just the usa and uk did the fighting. The usa is the head of nato. Other countries were there but not as combatants.

Its going to be a rough ride for services and families, the whole basis being to prevent another 911 attack by taking over Afghanistan to deny a haven.
Personally I think it's a tragic waste of life., for services and their families, and also the afghan people.

It was always going to happen no matter how fast or slow the transition was because taliban fighters do not care who they kill to get the results they want.
They will not stop until the whole country is under sharia law it will all end in whatever women’s rights were left have gone.

Not leaving huge stores of weapons and equipment behind for the enemy is a good idea too.

The Taliban have stated they will make concessions and girls will be allowed to study until they are twelve. Where schools have space and female teachers. If the girls don’t get past twelve where the duck do the adult female teachers get their teaching skills? |

I think you are getting the muslims mixed up with the Taliban although the Taliban are muslims they are Pashtun tribesmen who strictly enforce Shari law and to be honest nobody would have give a fuck about them if they hadnt got mixed up with bin laden. Yes I understand trump took the initial decision but not sure why Biden did not change it or at least have a more organized withdrawal. Seems the feeling here is the speed and chaos of the withdrawal is a major factor. As tempting as it is to blame trump I think Biden as the one in charge should bear the lion share of this |

I blame Blair and Bush for the fuck up in Afghanistan, Iraq Syria and Libya . They virtually created ISIS as a force by dissolving the Iraq army and fucking them off. They took their toys with them. That was cleaver.

It was and could be a very wealthy country . The shah wasn’t particularly nice so not saying all rosy but he did try to modernise. A lot of the wealthy and higher educated fled during the revolution so the brain and business drain set them back a long time. |

They'll cut a deal with whoever is in charge, in order to get mineral resources - like they've done in Africa - and it'll work; because, like the Taliban, they don't give a shit about human rights. |

Tragically, what he believed is of no relevance either. If you join the armed services, you become an instrument of your government's foreign policy - what you think doesn't come into it; you just do as you're told.
Unfortunately, if you join up in the UK, you become an instrument of the USA's foreign policy - meaning what you think is of even less relevance, since your government is POTUS' bitch.
If you don't believe that's true, you haven't been paying attention.
As for Boris, well ... The prime minister said that thanks to the efforts of the UK armed services there had been no al-Qaeda attacks on the West for "a very long time".
That's true. However, it didn't stop the Manchester bombing, did it?
Worse still, it didn't stop his utter incompetence from racking up 115,000 deaths - in England alone - from Covid 19.
More UK citizens are dead because of him, than any terrorists the UK has been plagued with. |
