"I'm gonna make a prediction without reading above. Brexit voters will still say they'd vote for Brexit, despite all the problems it's caused. People rarely want to admit they were conned. And they rarely get angry at those who conned them. Instead, they dig in and insist all is well. And they often get angry at those pointing out they were conned. " So don't point it out. It serves no purpose. We have no choice but to make he best of it. It's only a problem if people claim that things are better when they aren't. Not many people are, only that it hasn't been a disaster,as hollow a victory as that may be. I would vote the same way. The only substantive outcome has been the creation of animosity over a topic where there was none before.

My oblique point was a 1st step would be Brexit voters being honest with themselves and others. They were flogged an utter lie. Johnson/Gove/Cummings et al are the ones who deserve to be the target of anger over Brexit. They should be booted out of office. (1 down now cummings is out.) It's also hard to solve problems and make the best of it while we have a government that lies routinely, that indulges in large scale corruption, that shows utter disregard for rules and laws, that doesn't seem to care about the lives of its citizens. A government that can't be trusted by other countries or even its own citizens. Again, the best way to move on would be to boot them out. PS people claim Brexit is better than it is all the time. Again it would be easier to move on if we were all just honest about the fact Brexit was sold on a lie.

"This thread is indicative of today's society. Today, but better still yesterday. No long term thinking. Only ill informed people thought things would change overnight, over a month or even a year. Today's society has no concept of long term. Where has the money gone? I think we all know the answer is that question, but because it doesn't fit the agenda it will be dismissed. Has Brexit affected me personally? No, nothing has changed. Business wise? No, nothing has changed, but then the businesses I work with both in the UK and the EU were prepared. Many others weren't. Too many. Would I vote the same way again. Yes, of course and as it was pointed out earlier, most people on either 'side' would. To get a proper view of the question, ask it again in 20 years. " "Things are demonstrably worse than they were before Brexit." "Ah yes but I believe we won't see the benefits for 20 years so there is no argument to be had." "Yes but people feel they were lied to and the fisheries and farming industries are being sold down the river." "They need to wait 20 years to realise the benefits." "But most of them will be out of business within a year." "20 years..."

"Definitely more now than before Why?why because im happy how it's going. ok government could and should be better but I can't change that for me I see it's helping improve jobs and living most I no either getting better pay or better job's I voted for what I thought would be better for me and it is rest I don't give a fk about." So you don't care that the country has lost a shitload of money? You're not worried about the threat of looming food shortages? You don't care that entire industries are crashing? You don't care that food is literally rotting in fields for a lack or pickers? Or that food is being thrown away due to a lack of drivers? etc

Nobody voted for a Brexit that damages the economy, negatively affects businesses, causes us to be rule-takers and places restrictions on our freedoms. "Things are demonstrably worse than they were before Brexit." "Ah yes but I believe we won't see the benefits for 20 years so there is no argument to be had." "Yes but people feel they were lied to and the fisheries and farming industries are being sold down the river." "They need to wait 20 years to realise the benefits." "But most of them will be out of business within a year." "20 years..." Those business that fail are those that never prepared as I pointed out. Probably in trouble pre-brexit anyway. Just have something to hang it on now. I'm not going to enter into the argument, not debate as the only debaters on here are mastur, in agriculture because I have already covered that in other threads. Things aren't demonstrably worse because of Brexit unless you search then out. There are arguments on both sides, both are entrenched I never said it would take 20 years to see the benefits of Brexit. I did say only ill informed people, on both sides expected those benefits would happen overnight. So you’re saying that fishing businesses are failing not because they were sold down the river by the government but because they believed what they were told and failed to prepare as if they were lied to? And farmers are going to go to the wall not because we are doing trade deals that allow them to be massively undercut by products produced in countries with lower standards but because they failed in some way to prepare for that? I've already answered these questions in previous threads. People need to read beyond the headlines and what they see on the internet. The EU did much more damage to both community's. " Fishermen could sell into the EU without barriers certificates and extra water purification treatments for shellfish. so not sure what damage the EU rules we’re causing? Farmers were supported through subsidies which are being withdrawn along with opening g up their home market to Australia and soon the US to cheaper products so again not sure how you claim their treatment was worse.?

Just like the eu the people who you voted for chose the leading officers. Also when did you last fill in a ballot paper for the House of Lords?? We changed from a broad voting group where not one party could dominate without some compromise and consideration for others into a single party state run by corrupt elite lying charlatans. Brexit costs running at £200B so far but it’s ok Boris has earmarked £4.5B for the North to compensate. Not sure where that’s coming from looking at our debt . "Except the one where we are not members of a Federal State, and we as citizens don't get to vote directly for those who run it. How has your life been measurably improved by this so far? Ask me in 2 years when we are all past most of the Pandemic. It’s ok, you’ll have found another smokescreen by then so you may as well answer now 2 years will become 5 years then 10 years etc etc " Of course it will but it’s quite funny to see the true believers humiliate themselves rather than admit they were taken in.

"I seriously this thread has gone exactly how I thought it would. Yhats enough from me If only you had reeled off just a couple of the tangible benefits we have experienced because of Brexit you could’ve stopped it happening. Instead you chose not to, or were unable to. As I've already said, this thread isn't for that. There's countless others What are the disasters that have occurred as a result of the Tory handling of Brexit? I have a varied circle of friends and colleagues in a variety of business and employment areas, some remainers and some leavers and none of them are losing their homes, jobs, holidays, savings, health as a result of Brexit. It's pretty much as it was beforehand. No falling of a cliff and all that doom and gloom and that in itself is a benefit in my eyes. Is your current circumstance so different? No benefits then? Unless your classing ‘no change’ as a benefit ? Yes, I am Clutching at straws? Apart from the huge cost, the NI border problems, fishing industry ruined, musicians who can’t properly tour EU countries etc etc everything is as it was? So the benefit is we haven’t crashed off a cliff?? Cost of goods and services more expensive. If you trade only in U.K. you won’t feel this just yet but it’s coming. Jobs moving slowly to Europe Small firms closing due to e commerce issues on customs and further added cost . U.K. was the leader in small e commerce set ups. Those empty shelves that are starting to show. They will get worse in a the next few months as the driver shortage bites. It’s holiday time. Trade into NI badly affected. Retailers moving supply to EU as simpler. The fact that due to restricted logistics we will have less choice in the shops. Banking funds now in the EU rather U.K. reducing tax revenue. Workers leaving for the EU £18b lost tax. New standards to create No free movement so less easy to live and work anywhere Costs costs and more costs . It’s got to be paid for at some point. We’ve made people redundant and moved their jobs to Europe. No we’re not going bust but we have incurred seven figure costs which we will not allow to continue. We were experienced and prepared before you take that line. Government unpreparedness cost us a fortune. Infrastructure was and is still not in place. Europe will be our financial base going forward. So no buses going over a cliff just death by a thousand cuts. This amused me . We scrapped the remaining red passports ( in March ) at a cost of £8.5m to introduce polish made blue ones. The country is being run by idiots! To try and trade with China etc on equal terms is just a joke. We don’t have the strength. That is trumpeted as our future. Really, are you seriously believing that? Do people see how many engineers and technicians India and China etc are spewing out to compete in the world? 20 years to see any benefit? I’m curious what that benefit will look like? ( I think financial services which will benefit a few) Also if your 40 today not looking good for your future before you retire. Brexit is the greatest financial self harm ever inflicted on this country. It dwarfs the banking fuck ups and we are still paying for that all these years later. There is no Benefit to Brexit only the strengthening of the U.K. elite’s hold over the government.

"Are some people now arguing that getting something which is worse than what we had before is a Brexit benefit? Yes, it’s not as shit as some people said it would be, get out the bunting I'll make sure to wave my flag extra hard, if that helps. You just need to believe harder, and click your heels together three times. Believed as hard as I could. Clicked my heels together like you said. I now have 2 broken heels And a blue passport The irony of course being that it is printed in Poland - Brexit, the gift that just keeps giving… But how is this possible? I thought trade with EU nations was fucked? Have you tried getting a passport recently? & our in denial Govt don’t actually care " I need a new passport soon.

There is no Benefit to Brexit only the strengthening of the U.K. elite’s hold over the government. thought you where in favour of the elite mate only yesterday saying how much you love the queen can’t get more elite than her bud " I’ll repeat foxy Read my post

You don't care that food is literally rotting in fields for a lack or pickers? Or that food is being thrown away due to a lack of drivers? etc" no because I don't read the papers no food shortages here no food rotting away not seen any industries collapsing other than those that we struggling before covied and that's because most cheap labor have left so winner winner chicken dinner

Some companies with large UK weighting are doubling down on others leaving (eg nissan) creating jobs in those areas. We have a new lifeboat " I’ll reply again as it’s quiet on here. Vaccines - we could always go it alone so not relevant it was our choice. Wages for staff shortage, true for the likes of HGV. drivers but examples of 28% will push some hauliers out of business or their customers who can’t afford increases on such a scale. But yes drivers who work for the likes of Tesco good news but smaller companies will fold limiting the general market even further. It’s not a good outcome regardless of inflation. Tesco offering £1000 sign on bonus so they don’t have to pay £2k for training a driver as they would rather poach. Animal welfare ?? We are planning to import hormone injected beef and poorly cared for sheep from Australia. Not a great outcome is it! I believe we could always impose the ban on transporting young calves lambs etc we chose not to. ( don’t know facts on this so happy to be corrected) More fish? The shellfish can’t be sold. We have lost Norwegian fishing grounds so overall a net loss. Increases costs to export fish means some companies have closed so pretty crap outcome. Ships are landing catches in Europe to avoid U.K. costs and paperwork so not good for U.K. markets. Agree Uk weighted companies now demanding government handout or they threaten to leave. So investment the U.K. tax payer is coughing up a lot towards. U.K. only trading business not as badly affected I agree but raw material increases along with associated freight and customs increases on raw materials will reduce margin or will be passed to the consumer. Less value in wages. Nice to have a new lifeboat I totally agree that’s good news and maybe helped by the increase in contributions since that arse Farage had his rant. So yes a Brexiteer indirectly helped pay for a new lifeboat. It’s a shit show of mammoth proportions and has done nothing but harm the UK.

Yes we are because those divisions are high volume low margin and the customers are in Europe. We can supply cheaper now from inside Europe due to increased freight and customs costs from the UK . So before all revenue on the those jobs came to the U.K. That will no longer be the case going forward. The revenue for those jobs is not paid for by the U.K. tax payer though, which is the most important part of government should buy British always if possible.

"I don't know the actual reason why they are being made in Poland though I guess they were cheaper. Does anyone have any knowledge as to is this due to brexit. In other words if we had remained in the EU with the original passports would production gave remained in the UK or gone to Poland anyway. I have not seen evidence either way so maybe some here have The contract with De La Rue was due to finish and was going to tender regardless. And please explain why giving the contract to another country is better for UK jobs? This is beyond Brexit stupid this is just poor government. It didn’t matter if it was more expensive the money kept people in work in the U.K. I also prefer contracts to be awarded to UK firms but have you any evidence it was moved to Poland because of Brexit or could it be the case this would have happened even if we were in the EU." No, but it was heralded as a Brexit positive to have blue passports as our break away from the EU so the irony seems to be lost on you.

The colour could have been blue anytime we wanted. It wasn’t a restriction imposed by the EU. So maybe we should have had a referendum on the colour of our passports and left it at that. The facts There have been a number of EU regulations over the years dealing with passport uniformity. One resolution in 1981 says the passport should be “burgundy red” in colour. However, further resolutions in 2004 did not make reference to the colour of the front cover. It is worth noting here that not all member state passports have burgundy covers. Yes lots but giving out his name as proof on a swingers site is not something to encourage is it. Some extra detail is it was related to submarine navigation. I don’t care if you don’t believe me it was referencing a point on government incompetence in regards to tenders.

& our in denial Govt don’t actually care Yep went to the post office they did it all online including the photo and got my nice new blue passport within a week. Thank you Poland, managed to win the contract and still deliver in spite of Brexit - maybe the answer is to buy everything from the EU? Yes they print them whats the problem with that they are issued in the uk and as i said there is no problem with getting one. How about they could have been printed in the UK? British jobs? Not a single thing has got better because of Brexit. Nothing… I thought you said there was a problem getting one. I suppose its because its cheaper but would guess even if they did you would complain the paper is not made here. Can you name any single benefit from Brexit, I can’t see any - happy to be proven wrong, should this be possible In trying to see the other side ... It was a lot easier to to it alone on the vaccine strategy. Less workers seems to be inflating wages in some areas so they may be better off in real terms even after this flows through to prices. There have been positive animal welfare reforms. Our fishermen will be able to catch a few more fish than before. Some companies with large UK weighting are doubling down on others leaving (eg nissan) creating jobs in those areas. We have a new lifeboat I’ll reply again as it’s quiet on here. " I voted to remain so trying to take the opposite side here. As much as we could have gone it alone when in the EU, chnacew are we wouldn't imo. And I agree there will be job losses too. I'm looking for some benefits for some. Likewise the fishes. Some will be winners if overal it's net losses (net losses. Fishes. Brilliant.) Tbf to some leave voters, the reduction in EU workers has happened (so is a benefit to them for whatever reason) and benefits of not being tied to EU law will take time to come through ... "The annoying thing about the passports, is that the UK gave the business to a partly owned French company, but no UK company was "allowed" to tender for printing French passports. The French bent the EU rules, so it just wasn't possible. " I think most countries class passports as sensitive contracts so are produced in house as it were. We could have used the same approach afaik. But didn't. Which is the story of our relationship with the EU.

I have to come clean and admit it was accidental so can’t claim bragging rights damn it! EU law has been replaced with miles more red tape so there won’t be any benefit. The reason 45% of our trade was with the EU was because it was so easy to trade with the EU. It really is that simple. We now have barriers and costs which hinder trade. The benefit proves to be worthless and in fact far more costly as the job to make the new style passport was given to Poland. Please explain unless you just happen to love the colour blue how this is a benefit ?? It’s an example of this government showing their true colours ( excuse the pun) . Cheapest not best value as workers in the UK lost their jobs. This is the level of our government’s skill in calculating a benefit . Less jobs and yet more money leaving the country. Well done Boris I see remainers here claiming its a supposed benefit in their usual sarcastic tones. Haven't seen any leavers say a blue passport is a benefit. You sure it was the loss of the UK passport contract that people lost their jobs? The issued 2 warnings in 2019 whilst still holding that contract. Yes so losing a Uk government supply contract which they manufacture in the U.K. helps how exactly? " De La Rue are a private company who print for a variety of different countries. Should they lose all of their foreign contracts now and only have British contracts? Maybe all those other countries should take their contracts back to their own countries, as you'd like for the UK. That should really help them out. The fact is that they have been losing money and restructuring for years and the jobs losses are likely nothing to do with that one contract.

& our in denial Govt don’t actually care Yep went to the post office they did it all online including the photo and got my nice new blue passport within a week. Thank you Poland, managed to win the contract and still deliver in spite of Brexit - maybe the answer is to buy everything from the EU? Yes they print them whats the problem with that they are issued in the uk and as i said there is no problem with getting one. Isn't it funny how all these remainers want us to be in the EU but if we now do trade with the EU it's (why not British jobs) One of the few benefits claimed by leave voters was a blue passport. 'The 189-year-old company said annual operating profit fell 61% to £23m for the year to 30 March, hit by a fall in currency volumes and the loss of sanctions-hit Venezuela as a customer.' The issued 2 warnings in 2019 whilst still holding that contract. Yes so losing a Uk government supply contract which they manufacture in the U.K. helps how exactly? De La Rue are a private company who print for a variety of different countries. I agree with all you state but how does losing work from the U.K. government help in any way to keep those U.K. jobs? " How many people actually lost their job due to the contract 10,s 100,s 1000,s 10,000,s and wasn't the reason we had to offer the contract to eu countries because we were still in due to the remainers trying to stop brexit?

" A relatively hi tech UK company which employs over 2000 people mostly in the U.K. is struggling so the governments answer is to award nearly £500m of their existing business to another country weakening the company further. De la rue questioned the validity of the winning tender which was over £100m cheaper. But have now accepted they lost. So now £500m of tax payers money is going to France, the Netherlands and Poland . Not one penny is being spent in the U.K. all money lost to our economy out of government incompetence. The national security alone meant we could keep printing within the U.K. so the business could easily have been awarded to a U.K. company. We don’t have to tender it. French passports are made by Imprimerie Nationale, the state-run French printing organisation, with the French government having made the decision not to put the job out to tender, as allowed under EU rules. Even if it was a rule of the EU which it wasn’t why didn’t they then delay the process? They could easily have waited to be out if the EU by adding an addendum to the existing contract so on both counts your Brexit comment is not valid. It’s just bad government at the tax payers expense yet again.

Incorrect, we could do our own think like others - Sweden for example Less workers seems to be inflating wages in some areas so they may be better off in real terms even after this flows through to prices. Really - its the workers fault? There have been positive animal welfare reforms. We could have done the same within the EU Our fishermen will be able to catch a few more fish than before. Not actually true - ask a fisherman, especially as they can’t sell now… Some companies with large UK weighting are doubling down on others leaving (eg nissan) creating jobs in those areas. Maybe give us a net number? Honda is gone We have a new lifeboat " As the RNLI is publicly funded, that isonly from the generosity of people who dislike Farage. Thank you for trying, but you have provided no examples of benefits - there are none…

I don't blame the government for shopping around for a better deal as its tax payers money as long as they consider all elements not just the headline figure. 'The 189-year-old company said annual operating profit fell 61% to £23m for the year to 30 March, hit by a fall in currency volumes and the loss of sanctions-hit Venezuela as a customer.' The issued 2 warnings in 2019 whilst still holding that contract. Yes so losing a Uk government supply contract which they manufacture in the U.K. helps how exactly? De La Rue are a private company who print for a variety of different countries. I agree with all you state but how does losing work from the U.K. government help in any way to keep those U.K. jobs? How many people actually lost their job due to the contract 10,s 100,s 1000,s 10,000,s and wasn't the reason we had to offer the contract to eu countries because we were still in due to the remainers trying to stop brexit? A relatively hi tech UK company which employs over 2000 people mostly in the U.K. is struggling so the governments answer is to award nearly £500m of their existing business to another country weakening the company further. As you say its preferable to keep contracts in the UK unless of course the saving from going elsewhere is substantial. I don't blame the government for shopping around for a better deal as its tax payers money as long as they consider all elements not just the headline figure. Obviously the current government are responsible for contracts awarded now but I doubt using foreign companies is unique to this government. I would expect both Labour and conservative governments have done it quite a bit in the past" Let’s assume you and your wife are the U.K. your neighbours are France. You need the lounge painting so your choice is pay your wife £100 or pay the neighbours. If your wife has the money you may benefit . If your neighbours have the money you get a little paint but they keep all the cash to spend where they like. If the neighbour does it for £50 you are still £50 down and no benefit. Sending all the money abroad at even half price does not save anything . It’s 100% cost and no benefit to the U.K. economy. I agree lots of governments have been equally guilty but the Tories claim to be the party of business. One of De la Rue’s sites Liz Truss is MP for. Like her new global deals that don’t benefit us she seems to have missed this gem too.
