"But even the Conservatives can fuck it up.
It was simple until they introduced ‘amber plus’ "
Why is that any different. Quite simple. Just cost more money making the holiday that less enjoyable I guess. |

It’s unnecessary, it’s either green , amber or red, keep it simple, at least they have scrapped the amber watch list |

I just read this on the goverment web site which applies if travelling to England from an country classed as "amber" and staying less than 10 days:-
"You must still book your day 2 and day 8 travel tests, even if you will no longer be in England on the dates of the tests. You only need to take the tests if you’re still in the country on those dates"
Do you have to pay in advance for these tests and, even if not, surely booking an appointment when you will not be there is silly.
Although...
to be honest - unless on business or seeing Family, how many people would travel to England from an amber country for less than 10 days and spend the whole time in quarantine? |

I love the way that people are manipulated by the media by the words they use.
I think they have made the right decision to keep it as it is but i would also be worried if they didnt look at different ways to open up travel safely.
The media hear they may introduce an amber plus then report it as fact then when it doesn't happen say its a u turn when all along it was just something to be considered nothing more. |

"But they did introduce an amber plus..." This proves my point exactly that the media use wording that makes people think this when in fact there never was one.
Number 10 has confirmed there are no plans for an amber travel watchlist for foreign holiday destinations at risk of being downgraded to red.
It was previously suggested that countries on the proposed watchlist- which included Italy and Spain- would have been at risk of joining the red list at short notice.
suggested and proposed are the key word here. |

"But they did introduce an amber plus...When ?"
As far as I am aware, France is still on the Amber + list and (we) have to quarantine for 10 days even if double vaccinated (and take two tests) when in the UK.
This is due to the high instance of the Beta Covid variant which is prevalent on the Island of La Reunion which is a French territory off South Africa, in the Indian Ocean.
The UK looks as this as being a threat hence introducing the Amber + for France.
Funnily enough, if you were to come from La Reunion directly to the UK (or via a country that is
not red and you were double vaccinated) you could enter the UK without needing to quarantine.
Some of my friends in France wanting to see Family from the UK are arranging to meet them in Ireland as it is altogether more straightforward!
No wonder people get confused.

While France had different restrictions from the rest of europe it was never on an amber plus list as it never existed. It was thought about but never implemented you are just proving my point how the words of the media manipulate people, im sure some only read headlines or get their opinions from others on twitter or facebook without actually reading what was actually said.

I found this very quickly - there are many other references to Amber Plus for France but perhaps it is only the media giving it a name.
France is certainly on the Goverment Amber list (I checked their website) but it does not follow the same criteria as others on the same list.
So Amber, but not Amber and rather closer to red.
No wonder there is confusion. |
