This is about people and their attitudes and disposition.
It's not about left or right.
Something to listen to in order to learn something and have a more informed opinion:

Alternatively, don't listen and start shouting immediately |

Heard this while on a road-trip.
The contributors were brilliant - I made a mental note to follow up by getting both books.
People from all walks of life could really benefit from hearing this - perhaps this forum would be so much better, too.

If only
Hopefully people will take a little time to listen and perhaps that's how it will work out |

There is a paradox at the heart of this though.
To keep those with an authoritarian disposition comfortable the world needs to look like it is not changing much and everyone is conforming to their own views. So, any change has to be slow.
However, change has to happen and if after decades or even centuries significant disparities within groups remain, does everyone tiptoe around indefinitely? |

Lots of people posting about how much they hate the division and points scoring in the politics thread.
Opportunity here to discuss something really fundamental without any political colouring whatsoever.
Almost zero interest |

"I listened to it. It was interesting.
I was surprised by how many seem to have an inbuilt authoritarian need/impulse."
There is a good reason for it.
Society needs people to keep home safe and life steady. The most authoritarian tendency is an extreme of that.
I guess slightly more people have to be open to change for discovery and development to happen. The extreme of that is anarchy.
Moat people are a mix.
Either group having too much power causes problems I guess. Comfortable existence probably tends to more adventurousness and hard times to more authoritarianism. |

"I noticed she was trying very hard not to say what stupid people gravitate more towards. (Or, at least, she was trying not to call them stupid.)"
That is a generalisation though.
There are clever homebodies and stupid adventurers.
There probably used to be fewer stupid adventurers than there are now because the penalty to failure is much lower these days.
Perhaps that's why there is some shift towards people feeling that there's too much change? |

I think certain people always feel there's too much change. Back in the Stone Age, there was likely a bloke tutting over pointier rocks. |

...but less liky to be pounced on by the lion rustling the leaves because he didn't leave the village much. |
