Dunno how true it Is but it's been suggested the players didnt want to meet johnson.

Maybe, just maybe, this whole taking the knee may actually blow up in their faces.

Most sources say Downing Street cancelled it. That wouldn't surprise me. Johnson is a coward who runs away from anything he doesn't want to face.

I've also seen it mentioned that England players didn't want to go to the reception, so it was cancelled from their side. Given the fact Johnson previously refused to condemn people who booed the England team for taking the knee, that also wouldn't surprise me.

Either way, it's hard to see how any of this is good for Johnson. What a shame.

Ive got nothing but respect for the players who have stood up to them.

James o Brian has done a great piece today where he calls out the sheer arrogance of someone else, telling the player kneeling, what they are doing it for.

Pissing off a group of players who have just got to a European championship final is not a great move.

We'll see if/how Johnson and Downing St try to spin the whole situation.

My guess is they'll just try to move on to new news as quickly as possible. Their MO is to try and bury old bad news as fast as they can.

Such as Hancock's naughty affair.

And Cameron and Greensill.

And Gove's divorce.

And Gove's law breaking.

And Hancock's lawbreaking.

And Patel's bullying.

And Johnson's corruption.

And Jenrick's corruption.

etc...

Thats their normal trick..let's move on and forget all that.

And their lackeys in the media will ensure that happens.

It's also worth remembering that there were plenty on here who were very vocal in their opposition to taking the knee.

They are staying strangely quiet on mings comments.

Oh they'll pop up at some point, doubtless exercising Olympic level mental gymnastics.

It’s easier to save face by cancelling it rather than the players telling them they would not show up…

If they make it into a politician vs players situation… the public are not going to side with politicians

The public won't side with the politicians over the footballers? Likely true. Certain fab members, however...

Some will...and to think, this is happening months after we were told in a report that institutional racism doesn't exist.

Wow..

They have held receptions for the England rugby team that lost the World Cup final in Japan and for the England football team that reached the World Cup semifinals in Russia

I think they were told a majority if not all the players were not going to show up

You’ve been in a bubble for over a month at the end of a long season.

You can a) fly out to Dubai, Villa holiday home

b) spend time with family in multi million mansion. c) go to a reception at Downing Street?

I know what I would do.

I suspect there was another factor in the Downing St do being cancelled.

What did he say? I'm guessing it was classier than anything said by our illustrious pm.

Johnson is a confirmed racist, toxic, beyond the pale, a psychopath, not welcome in decent society.

Why would the English players allow themselves be used for a photo-op with that odious clown, a man they clearly despise?
