I may be mistaken here but I think you are confusing libertarian and liberal. Libertarianism is letting the free market do its thing unimpeded, which is quite a right wing idea, not left. Being liberal and allowing people to be who they are without judgement is more a left wing thing. |

The political compass is left-right, authoritarian-libertarian. Its more about how much state control you want as a whole rather than just control of the market. |

Bit of a mix I’ve only ever voted twice in my life. A bit socialist, globalist, tory, libertarian, federalist, depends on the issues. These current tories are not worth a vote though and labour has been hijaked by momentum antifa so they are fucked too

The classic understanding of liberalism is that its a political philosophy based on individual freedoms, equality before the law and a free market. Early liberal thought influenced the American revolution withnits notions of individual rights and equality.
Modern day liberal parties are not necessarily left wing - the Dutch liberal party being a good example. |

Somewhat left of Blair on politics but right of Corbyn. Keynesian/FDR on economics. You need big government and big ideas to run a sane democratic society. Extreme right or left libertarianism (they meet at the back of the bike shed) is just chaos in waiting. |

Yep. Left wing libertarianism is quite different to right wing libertarianism. Left wing authoritarianism is also quite different to right wing authoritarianism. |

Same for extreme left authoritarianism (Stalin) and extreme right wing authoritarianism (Saudi Arabia). Extreme anything is usually dangerous. |
