Is it OK to have a discussion about how outdated the National Anthem is?
“God” save our gracious “Queen”
Two reasons in the first line why I think it is time for a change.
1) God… really? In 2021??
2) Queen… will the Royal Family even exist when she passes?
Time for a new National Anthem I think.
Something beautiful and stirring maybe? Like the Italian one? Lol |

I don't think that you would ever get the UK to remove either of those things.
God or The Queen (or King). Not in a National Anthem, anyway.
An English Anthem, perhaps. |

It would be nice to have a slightly more upbeat anthem but agree it will be difficult to remove the monarch from it. Your never going to please everyone regardless of choice. The suggestion of land of hope and glory sounds good to me but doubt it will be accepted by everyone. The Italian anthem sounds great even though I have no idea what they are singing about |

south africa did an absolutely fabulous job of creating a new anthem for a modern age when they penned 'Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika'. it's doubtful that the english have anyone skilled enough to match that in fairness.

as much as it pains me to say it the marsiare for the French national anthem is quite stiring building up to a loud crescendo as all good anthems should |
