All that will happen is that politicians will piss about wasting time instead of bringing the hammer done right away with all flights services etc to Belarus kick any of their politicians out of all European countries just to start.

That why the UK have called in the Belarus ambassador.. that’s why there are efforts to bring this up at the UN…
It’s not an eu issue…. It’s a civilian plane being hijacked by the country authorities under the guise of there being a threat to the plane….

Not sure if the EU can have much influence. They can impose sanctions but that tends to hurt the people more than those in power. As for EU getting involved in a military way well it's a non starter as would be a very short campaign |

In all likelihood their airspace will be empty & at a push their airline may be banned from EU airports.
However that dirty great long Russian gas pipeline to Germany is almost complete & will supply them with a very large % of their needed power.
Guess what country it traverses through?
So I do not see the EU making any longterm threats, In 2015 they removed sanctions on the country probably knowing full well the line would be used as a bargaining(bmail) chip in any future negotiations.
The weakness of the EU model is seen now, meetings, joint statements etc. When what was needed was an immediate launch of Eurofighters to escort the plane to Lithuania.
Never happening with that pipeline in place.

This act shouldn't be tolerated at all. Using a military jet to force a course change and force landing a civilian aircraft from another country just because there's someone that protests against you, that's nothing but terrorism.
The so called leader of Belarus should be given an ultimatum, and if he refuses, remove him from office for terrorists acts.
He's lucky he didn't try that with a US airline !

The EU are going to not allow the Belarus national carrier from using Eu airspace or airports …, do that basically cripples them from going west…
Also eu carriers will avoid Belarusian airspace so they will lose revenue that way as well…. |

There is zero chance of Belarus doing anything with the pipeline because Belarus are.basically reliant on Russia at this point and the pipeline is Russia’s biggest source of foreign income at the moment… if they lost Russian support it would be game over…. |

It's really very straight forward.
It was an EU flight flying between EU countries with a person who was seeking sanctuary in the EU.
Still, at least this humanitarian disaster might prompt a few more of the wiser EU citizens to ask their governments what the point of Brussels is. |

I never played that or any other games
But what I did do was stop armed uprisings in Africa against British interests.
Diplomacy does nothing but make you weak.
This is a matter of importance because it could be you saying something online about a regime you dislike and then you being taken into custody by force against your will.
If them pilots had not done as instructed what would happen then?
Do all the passengers die?
You use maximum force because it stops things like this. You need to scare people.
This is why you no longer have terrorist hostage situations in embassies in this country because the sas put a marker down and the world took notice.

If you scroll back you will see i was one of the first to say it wasn't just an eu problem. I just found it typically eu that they had to discuss it over dinner where as the uk came yet again to a rapid decision. |
