With the news that Rail services are going to have unified State control is this a sign of Socialism creeping even more into the Tory party?

Grantham

Its not pure Nationalisation as you would know it.

Still a high degree of private operation in the proposals.

All the rail services are still privately run - this is ticketing and timetabling, track and stations.

They are creating a central organisational structure.

I bet that won't ever come back to haunt them.

Some punctuation and sarcasm will give you "Great,British Railways!"

It’s basically going to be run much like London overground operates in the capital

Government runs the infrastructure, sets timetable and fares… tocs operate the trains under a fixed contract with bonuses for better and improved services

I would like to travel by rail a lot more. But the truth is it's just so much cheaper by car (in some cases more than a £100 cheaper). Let's hope the flexible tickets 'level-up' the costs.

I bet they will "level up" the costs. Probably add another 25% to the cost.

Would be good to use rail more if costs are reasonable, more bums on seats

Hope it improves things for the users. I was quite shocked to hear the price differences between using trains in London and in the north. If it works well it helps towards the levelling up

It is quite shocking the differences. We have a Niece that lives in Berlin, and she says that mostly you can rely on reasonable pricing - late trains and strikes and broken networks however are no different than here.

Once again you fail to see the proposal and take a simplistic view so you can make a random comment that bears no relation to the truth.

They are different things. Labour wanted to 'completely renationalise' the rail network.

As far as I'm aware the Conservatives plan to 'renationalise parts' of the rail network.

Socialism working alongside capitalism. It really could catch on
