Seen a news item on the Hartlepool election.
One guy interviewed, voted tory, because Labour had "trashed' Hartlepool.
Closing the law courts, police station and lack of police.,
But.. central government az i understand it, I.E the Tories!... Had closed the law courts etc.
So, what mindset are voters? Whingy moany lot who get their knickers in a twist and behave kike spoilt brats?

They think national issues like hospitals and prisons are the responsibility of local councils.
Labour have got a tough ask challenging such ignorance. |

You don’t have to pop down the A19 to find out why Hartlepool voted Tory...... Sunderland Council lost 9 Labour councillors to Tories and LibDems ...... the writing was on the wall back in 2019 - without the Brexit Party in the 2019 GE there would have been a Tory MP in one of the Sunderland seats.
Looks like Sunderland has the same kind of electorate as Hartlepool.

"Has to realize to that Hartlepool 'was' traditional labour heartland - so if you say they are 'all' thick who are you actually blaming for that?

Well if someone confident in going on camera and broadcasting his "wisdom" across the airwaves without checking his info. first, what would you say?

Yes I'm afraid so "
I'm quite sure only 1 person felt that way..
Oh and those 2 on The boat...and the caller to lbc who referenced food banks..and the person interviewed who wanted a change...apart from that..no one else was so unaware the gmnt made those types of decisions. |

" Hello. Would their opinion make any difference to the results. If we assume that some voters make decisions based on incorrect information, would these votes not just simply cancel out . I am sure that people also vote for Labour based on incorrect information. |

The concept that its the gmnt who actually make decisions which relate to how the country is run, in terms of how many hospitals, police stations etc we have, appears to a be a difficult one to grasp.
Maybe they should start teaching politics in school?
It may help some less informed voters? |

The idea hat people are now only politically illiterate now that they have voted in the tories is farcical.
Obviously no one threw that accusation at the very same voters for the last 50 years |

Even that was different.
If you dont vote for 1 party because you hold them responsible for something they didnt do..you could do with educating yourself.
Simple.

No. But I also haven't tried to pursue the narrative that tries to say that all the people of Hartlepool are thick.
Until I do know that they are, I will have to good grace not to cast that aspersion on the people of Hartlepool. I will call that out in other people if they do.

But I will leave for Angela Rayner to say it best:
After all if anyone should know she will . . . She is clearly saying that experience of Labour for the last60 years has taken its toll . . .
“The Angie Rayner at 18 would have liked someone a bit spicy, and willing to throw a grenade in … That’s why we like soaps, isn’t it? We like a bit of argy bargy, or someone who is going to upset what the norm is.”
Rayner was speaking to the podcast in the wake of Labour’s crushing by-election defeat in Hartlepool, a heartland seat the party had held for almost 60 years.
“If I’m honest, I think we lost it before we even picked a candidate,” she said. “I think it’s an emotional shift away from Labour that takes time to get back … We can’t just say, ‘OK, we’ve got a different leader — now vote for us.’ It takes a lot longer to earn that respect back.” |

There has been a narrative in the last few days claiming that the people are Hartlepool are thick, so stop pretending that you haven't seen it. Your was adding to that narrative.
You could have added other voter comments that proved otherwise, but you choose not to. So when you talk about bias, look closer to home. |

When I was referring to voters not being informed enough to make a rational / informed choice when voting, and mentioning the guy from hartlepool, i was actually to referring to voters in general, across the entire country ..
Oops lol, do carry on |

"Seen a news item on the Hartlepool election.
Political illiteracy "
Maybe only people with a degree should have the vote and not us fick knuckle draggers |

"Educating people on how policies works is obvs a bad idea
Once again
Who know ?
If that’s the case things will never change. Look at Brexit, people were blaming the EU for everything including poverty and food banks, political illiteracy, sad times
It is weird why anyone would deem teaching people to be more politically aware, is a bad thing?
It’s scary, it’s the sort of thing you would find in communist Russia & China "
Do you have proof ??? |

Well the Tory councillors will now have to deliver. So they will need to pressure government because if nothing changes who ya gonna blame?
In a way the locals have voted quite smartly. Labour had no power so couldn’t stop central government cuts and in reality neither could local Tories but that truth can’t be allowed by central government to be seen.
The region will get money. It now has too.

I watched an interview with Andrew Adonis and Paul Embery yesterday
- on The Spectators YouTube channel
Paul Embery was spot on (as usual) and Adonis was having none of it (as usual) |

Said in another thread
In the aftermath of covid and Brexit, they now have to keep supporting the south whilst revitalising the north, inject the NHS to deal with the backlog and claim back the money lost through furlough.
Several months ago they could even provide enough ppe |

Good point., i hadn't thought of that. Only problem as Lionel mentioned is the funding of this and other tory council gains |
