Barrier wants EU countries to have more devolved power

“Britain vaccinated people faster against Covid than EU countries because it is free of Brussels' bureaucracy, the bloc's chief negotiator has admitted.
Michel Barnier, 70, said that ideology, red tape and an aversion to risk-taking led Europe to bungle its early vaccination drive - with just 24 per cent of the continent's population given at least one vaccine up to now, compared to 50 per cent in the UK.
He said lessons should be learned from the current crisis, including whether more powers should be given to countries to make decisions independent of Brussels.“
Ooh, is he getting it now? |

How does this square with being told that member States can do their own thing without interference from the EU and that working things through the EU is better because of their size. Hopefully they will take notice of him |

"It's been a total fiasco. France have been caught out under-reporting cases and deaths. Infections through the roof, so they may well need a new President very much sooner than they think."
Have French politicians been lying? Thought that was only the English ones.... |

"France
As of April 29, the French Government continues to report unreliable and incorrect data on almost a daily basis. On April 29, they reported a decrease of 1,417 confirmed cases compared to April 28. The Ministry of Health yesterday had reported a different figure compared to that of the Government, and even this figure was 1,504 lower than the previous day." |

Barnier and others should have listened to Cameron, I think it has now dawned on them, the EU needs to change. Considering they are introducing new VAT collection system in July, because they could not agree a EU wide single level of VAT says that they are still very fractured.
As for France, the retired generals letter to Macron says it all, and more surprising is that 58% of the population agree with the generals.
The French figures are garbage, they stopped reporting excess deaths to Euromomo last May. Likewise German figures who can hide behind the fact they have never recorded excess deaths other than in two areas. |

" I only saw today that Germany don't count people with underlining conditions who had covid as a covid death unlike the uk. It seems the eu dont have a set way of counting which seems strange to me as they seem to want to standardise everything else. |
