Looks like MEP's have voted to approve the EU-UK trade deal.
Maybe we can now move forward and start working with each other to get both sides of the water moving in the same direction? |

How can the EU possibly do that?
The trade agreement is World Beating according to Johnson.
Now that things have finally been signed off, it should be a simple case of taking advantage of the agreement (World beating) and moving forward.
The EU will obviously make sure that the agreement is enacted in full (and impose penalties if that is not the case as per the agreement) but, why would the UK worry about that?
The agreement is good for the UK.
The UK can and will trade elsewhere.
Surely all good news.
Why worry about the EU - the UK had left.
The UK does not need the EU - we have been told this so many times by those who voted to leave.
Time to believe it and move on! |

In trade yes. But if the French continue to try to frustrate it then military options need considering. |

How do you stand on the proposed war with France as suggested by one of the outspoken brexiteers here. Seems counter to your "grow and heal" message. |

I also don't ever tar-brush with sweeping statements of 'the Tories this or labour that' . . . There are many many honest politicians in every party and many bad ones.
It also pays when in doubt to ask anothers opinion before pigeonholing.

The French kicking off about their fishing permits, VDL put that one to bed according to politico. French MEP sent away with his tail between his legs. Next time he'll check his facts, before spouting off, seems VDL knew exactly what the situation was. |

Let’s not get too carried away…
All that’s happened is that the “Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom and Northern Irelend from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community” is now 100% binding, and that the “concepts and provisions thereof… shall in their implementation and application be interpreted in conformity with the relevant case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union handed down before the end of the transition period [31/12/020]”.
Most importantly, Cases C6/60 of 16/12/1960 and Case C-558/10 of 05/07/2012 which provided that the pensions of Messrs Mandelson, Patten, Ashdown, the Kinnocks etc. are exempt from UK tax.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose... |

I've reconsidered my war comments a little more carefully.
I dont think I'm proposing a full scale ground war or anything silly like that.
More like surgical strikes specifically on French tractors in the North of the country. That should unblock things. |

A paper agreement and actual behaviours are two very different things. Even with agreements we have seen the threatening and intransigent nature with the vaccines as just one example. The contracts and agreements count for nothing. If we all want to make it work, it will work well. If only one side wants it, it won't... |
