The annual select commons committee debate on the funding of the BBC is due shortly.
Is the license fee good value for money or is it time to call time on public broadcasting services? |

No. Don’t pay it as we don’t use it.
We use streaming services and that’s it these days. There’s honestly nothing on the beeb (in my opinion) worth watching any more let alone paying for it. |

How do you opt out of paying the fee? |

I like the BBC and watch more stuff on it (through iPlayer) than Netflix/NowTV etc. Plus quite a few of their podcasts. I don't disagree with the licence fee. |

You send an email to the tv license people declaring you no long need a TV license and how you either won’t be using a tv or being solely using streaming services.
I think there’s an email template knocking about on the web somewhere.
You don’t need the license to own the TV, just to watch live broadcasts - YouTube and twitch live broadcasts are exempt from this, as they can be watched on other media anyway. |

"I think it's good value for the radio alone."
The license fee doesn’t cover radio broadcasts. You need nothing besides a radio player to listen to BBC radio. |

No, it really doesn’t. They are commercial television stations and are paid for by selling advertising air time.
License fee only funds BBC television services, BBC radio, BBC iPlayer and S4C. |

Edit: sorry should have read “and helps subside S4C.” |

The method of funding is outdated.
As time passes, fewer and fewer will watch broadcast material, instead opting for streaming services.
Subsequently, there will need to be a rethink before it becomes a funding crisis.
Maybe a subsidy on internet usage drawn directly from the ISP who in turn charges the customer? |

I agree. The radio services are the best in the world by a mile.
Educate , entertain and inform is the remit and they do it brilliantly.
Watch a day of American tv and you will quickly reject the free for all future.

"Becarefull what you wish for because you wont half miss it when it's gone and replaced by a comersial or ppv chanel "
Not really why would any moral person miss an organisation that knowingly protected and hide the biggest paedophile in British histoy. Aka Jimmy Saville. |

But like the MP’s in the Houses of Parliament or the church or schools . The list goes on and I’m sure not more than 0.001% had any idea. So to sack all would be overkill !! |

None of the above are services you are forced to pay for unlike the BBC. |

"It's not worth 1p. Hence why I don't pay it and have no intention of paying it.
The license is outdated and unfair for those who do not watch or listen to the BBC." Damn site cheaper than subscription channels that also show you more adverts than programmes |

Think you’ll find your tax pays for education and the MPs and probably tax breaks for the church so a moot point .

Do we get rid of them as they are publicly funded to ?

Nonetheless those broadcasts need to be paid for somehow. |

There’s knowing about it, then covering it up for 30 years. Two totally different things.
Do we get rid of them as they are publicly funded to ?

Agreed. It's actually not very difficult to get your money's worth out of the licence fee; but if you really don't want to pay it, you don't have to.
Something else worth thinking about is the level of scrutiny and regulation the BBC is - rightly -subjected to; in every aspect of what it does.
The same is not true for the vast majority of its competitors; particularly when it comes to news coverage.
Anyway, Line Of Duty finale tonight ... |

Presumably that's why Laura Kuenssberg's latest article says she can't find any examples of Johnson actually lying. Either that or she's moved from politics to comedy. |

I do kind of understand people's gripe with the license fee but personally with hundreds of channels available these days I still watch BBC more than any other. Hope they continue as it is |
