You can’t be English because you are not white!!!
They live amongst us."
Sadly I think she is representing of a lot of people out there.... the only real difference now is that with events more people are prepared to say the quiet bit out loud! |

"What platform was this pond life on? (By that I mean caller) "
LBC
She called into David Lammy’s show.
It was excruciating to listen to and how David Lammy stayed so calm, so collected and so nice - quite incredible really. |

I recently listened to the call-in. I'm not surprised. For years, we sweep racism of this nature under the carpet and then act all shocked when it spills out.
It is ever-present in the UK and instead of being honest about how ingrained it is within our society, we act like it's just a "handful" of people of a certain age.
It's simplistic to think that it's just those people. It's not. We forget that many of these people are parents and grandparents passing down their views which is one of the reasons it continues. |

Without in any way wanting to look like I am excusing what she said, I just wonder how much modern technological advances are to blame?
What I mean by that is that not that long ago, we consumed our news facts from a handful of mainstream news channels. Nowadays, the internet helps people to curate the news channels and social media groups that interest them and it becomes so very easy to simply overly indoctrinate yourself on any particular ideology that you choose. The expression is to exist in an echo chamber.
How often these days do we hear the expression “He just says what we are all thinking.” ? This is exactly the validation of the existence of echo chamber mentality and how the concepts of QAnon and similar have evolved.
In summary, yes the woman probably had very old fashioned views and possibly still yearns for comedy like “Love Thy Neighbour.” But she likely would have kept it too herself had she not had the ability to surround herself online with people who think just like her. No surprise that she feels emboldened and confident that her view is correct because she only ever sees or hears from people who share her views.
Until her curated views on life meet reality. |

Hmm interesting perspective, personally I think 'not making an issue of these things' is what leads to these views proliferating.
I lived through the 70's & 80's where such views were widespread, change was only facilitated because brave people raised their heads above the parapet and denounced such behaviour.

So true, racism like this must be confronted and challenged. |

I was reading something yesterday about a kid who had drowned a few months ago crossing the channel.
Someone had screen shotted the letters section from the daily mail and practically every single response was either gloating or laughing.
You only need to see some of the contents on here regarding immigration and Brexit without a doubt exposed how widespread racism is here."
******************************
1)...., Was reading SOMETHING about A KID drowned A FEW months ago.
SOMEONE screen shot the letters page from the DAILY MAIL and PRACTICALLY EVERY single response was either GLOATING or LAUGHING.
Too much grey area highlighted by myself in the above, sorry.
Mere conjecture at best.
2)....,"WITHOUT A DOUBT EXPOSED HOW WIDESPREAD RACISM IS HERE..."
I do not believe for one minute there has been any content on Fab which suggests even the slightest hint of racism and, indeed, if I ever were to find such writings on here, I would immediately and without any hesitation bring it to the attention of the site owners.
I will say this false accusation is only to be expected when someone desperately goes looking for such.....?
According to the BBC news and, I believe, certain newspapers this morning, the UK has one of the most racially diverse and tolerant societies.
May I respectfully ask anyone finding such intolerant words here on FabSwingers, or indeed anywhere, they promptly report it to the owners or the police.
Finally, I find it very offensive that anyone could suggest that "widespread racism" exists here on Fab.
There are too many decent folks here for such a thing to exist.

Im from Eastern Europe and the most amount of racism I have seen in my life was when I was living UK. In Eastern Europe there are like 99.9 % of white people population, so in general nobody is bothered by race, as there are no people to be racist against ( of course there are a lot of undercover racists but that another topic)
Either way, it is funny to see how the brits pat on their back saying Oh we are so diverse and anti racism, even though a lot of older generation are hella racist. It is funny for me as Im white and I did not experience it, but I had a chance to listen how the brits talk about black people and asians. making jokes about black people coworkers as soon as they leave the room, making fun of a muslim girl praying on her breaks, talking about how great the british were for India ruling them and so many other things.
Also, as I was told by an english man - do not call someone who is english - a british. British people can be indians, pakistanis, welsh, scottish and so on, but not english people. They think they are above them.
Another funny story was then quite rich parents of a girl disowned her then she started dating a black guy and she could only return to their home after they split up
It is funny for me, as brits always tell how they are not racist, but in reality you are hella racist country
Im not surprised in general, it is really big country with lots of different people, so it is natural that there is a lot of racism - just stop talking this nonsense that there is only a tiny minority of racists |

Probably the first time I've ever applauded David lammy. Did very well to keep his cool in the face of an idiot.
The beauty of free speech....allowing the idiot to run her mouth off, explain how her comments and position are completely unacceptable with facts and logic.
I do have a problem with politicians having their own radio shows. The media companies are supposed to hold our sitting politicians to account. The line between them and us should be the media. Putting lammy, reece mogg, farage and others in charge of the public/politician interface should not happen. Allowing them to control the narrative of the programme just turns it into a long winded party political broadcast....what sort of searching questions are they going to ask themselves on behalf of the public? Not many I bet |
