Government to run Liverpool

Not the first time there has been corruption at the top of Liverpool city council. Hatton was well known for it as well. Yet again it's around the awarding of juicy building contracts. |

Statement to Parliament expected on Wednesday. Some sort of Govermental intervention expected.
Mayoral election on May 6th. I see Labour are in turmoil over candidate selection, with threats of legal action amid claims and counter-claims. |

It's a gross hypocrisy given what's gone on this last year, if there's corruption then we have laws to deal with it..
I suppose it's to keep the Tory donors happy now the cash cow of track and trace is not paying as much..
Maybe jenrick could give advice on awarding property developments, for a donation of course.. |

Will it be a bit like the civil service running the city then? I can imagine lots of anger there if a conservative is heading it given I think Liverpool has been Labour for a while. |

There is a Deputy Mayor in place right now - She would have to report to the Government Commissioners.
The Commissioners are essentially an oversight committee that ensure Local Government business is continued for the City.
The Former Mayor Joe Anderson says: The accusations are baseless and is counter suing the Police for wrongful arrest.
And we should all remember that it isn't 'Guilty till proven innocent' as some would like to have it. |

Because the labour party in liverpool is basically Momentum....which was only ever a rebrand of Hatton's Militant Tendancy.
MT tried to take over the whole labour party back in Kinnocks time but failed. Momentum did so under Corbyn....and pretty much succeeded. Thank God Corbyn never got into power. |

Basically the government is not taking over Liverpool and the council is pleased.It is a good well thought out solution to a problem and the Labour council are relieved as far as I can tell.
I think maybe the exellent response from Liverpool in the covid crisis has helped |
