It's not a racist statement, it's an unhelpful national stereotype, repeated here by a poster who has a history of being offended by people who aren't racist.

This is getting ridiculous now.
Fab didn't say Bournemouth was full of pensioners. He posed it as a rhetorical question. Actually there is a large pensioner cohort in Bournemouth but the uni students bring the median down to average levels.
Whilst Chris was wrong to Stereotype Ireland, I was simply asking if that statement was racist as that's what FFS took from it.

Context matters. Given the poster's frequent calls for a new British empire, belittling another nation in such terms is not just a casual sideswipe. It displays a revolting mindset. |

Also combined with this poster continually ridiculing anyone who is alert to injustice and racism.

For once our clowns here had their act together and ramped up direct ferry connections to the EU mainland. I haven't noticed any product shortages here (except for organic milk ), so it seems to work for us with the UK having to take the hit.
Almost 50 posts of non derailed squabbling triggered by one smug utterance to distract from economical changes caused through Brexit.
Fascinating but not in a good way. |

Just confirms as usual how ignorant the British actually are of anything to do with Ireland
Only one or two.
Isn't it a bit ignorant to suggest all British people are as uninformed as the one guy on here?
Some might even say racist "

"RoI EU trade up 80 percent
RoI GB trade down 40%
RoI to EU sailings - up 150 percent
figures from the RoI government
Looks like Holyhead taking a beating
Yep they sold two more ploughs and twenty more sheep than normal great stuff
congratulations for hitting a new low with your cheap racial stereotyping
Is calling a nation 'a nation of farmers' now racist?
It is lazy stereotyping. Is Bournemouth a ‘town of pensioners ‘ ?
I'm crying my eyes out laughing now
No surprise, it’s like saying Brexit voters are thick, just lazy stereotyping, worrying statement
I'm appalled where did you get the thought "Bournemouth is a town of pensioners from" lol? Shocking ageist behaviour bahahahahah.
Same place you got ‘Ireland is a nation of farmers ‘ from.
263,000 people in Ireland employed in agriculture out of a total working population of 2.3 million, so 12%
You must know by now, I work off facts "
And yet again your facts are wrong
That is the total figure working in the Irish agri industry

I'm not going to dig for production figures to squabble further but you can assume it's quite substantial as it is the European headquarters. Your imperialistic view of Ireland is rather outdated. Since the independence Roi has turned from the poor agricultural state to a nation with substantial pharmaceutical, medical, service and computer based technology sectors. Yet still proudly producing high quality food produce as well. |

Hollyhill is Apple's only self-operated manufacturing facility in the world.
Specifically, it builds iMacs to order. "There are almost 35,000 configurations possible," says one manager. "Shipping them from here saves the customer delivery time." It's not a comparatively high volume operation with under 15000 to 20,000 units per week. |

Yes I read that as well and that quote was from at least four years ago, as I said they don't release production figures, could be 10, could be a billion, who knows.
So now you’ve gone from
Ireland increased its exports by selling ploughs and 20 sheep
To
Ireland doesn’t make computers
To
Querying the production figures for the Apple plant in cork
Everyone mind themselves please
There’s a gammon reversing at speed

I'm not querying the production figures, there are no production figures to query.
Got to keep it quiet from the taxman after all

"RoI EU trade up 80 percent
RoI GB trade down 40%
RoI to EU sailings - up 150 percent
figures from the RoI government
Looks like Holyhead taking a beating
Yep they sold two more ploughs and twenty more sheep than normal great stuff
congratulations for hitting a new low with your cheap racial stereotyping
Irelands second biggest export machinery including farming 5.1% congratulations on your ignorance
Actually it isn’t
It’s 5th and this figure includes Computers which forms the majority of that figure
Pharmaceuticals: (36.8% of total exports)
Organic chemicals: (22.7%)
Optical, technical, medical apparatus: (7.6%)
Electrical machinery, equipment: (7.1%)
Machinery including computers: (5.1%)
I meant second biggest machinery export, my wording was slightly unclear. Worth bearing in mind Ireland doesn't make computers, I'm familiar with the Dell factory saga.
Familiar with ploughing and now Dell?,wow aren’t you quite the expert on “Éire”
Ever heard of Intel?
Yes, very impressive chip factory, doesn't make computers exactly as I said. Not sure what you are even arguing about now, you're just agreeing with me.
Who said Intel makes computers, they make computer components which are included in the machinery figure which is Ireland’s fifth biggest export
As opposed to ploughs and 20 odd sheep
Keep typing son
It’s most enjoyable
You listed "machinery including computers" as a category.
I am saying Ireland doesn't make computers.
Therefore it's machinery.
Can't say it any simpler than that.
“I am saying Ireland doesn’t make computers”
Another incorrect statement from you

Yeah the 6000 odd workforce and especially those in the production facility must go in and do nothing there all day
You are starting to embarrass even yourself now son. |

"Apple company operates a 4,000-person factory in Cork, Ireland, that builds iMacs — and it’s the only Apple-owned manufacturing facility in the world.
Please can you tell that other guy that claims to be Irish that Eire is the Republic of Ireland and not the Island, cheers
It's both.
Éire (Irish) is Irish for "Ireland", the name of an island and a sovereign state. - wikipedia
OK so he's wrong to say "it's not the Republic of Ireland" great thanks
Thought I was going mad there for a second
He's not wrong. It's the Irish name for the Republic but also the name for the whole island.
I reckon I'm more Irish than he is, you don't need to be loyal to him...
He specifically said it "isn't the Republic" which is demonstrably wrong.
Your more Irish than I am
Your some mixture of arrogant and ignorant
Éire refers to the island which is Ireland
We are talking about exports from
deep breath
the Republic of Ireland
OK can you let Brussels know because they've been using Eire on you name badges in Parliament, cheers
They're pretty incompetent as we all know aren't they "
Have you written to the EU yet about getting your country name wrong? |
