Mp for Southampton visited a food bank last year and claimed a pound back in parking expenses.

He also called the school meals issue a publicity stunt.

To be fair to the people of Southampton, you can see why they would want such a principled politician, representing them at parliament.

You also just know for a fact he is one of those fellas who waits for a penny change at the shop.

On the bright side at least we are free from all those eu freeloaders.

Food banks in Southampton are charging to park?

I'm assuming there was a car park nearby.

He is also paid 24 grand a year for 'consultancy work " for 10 hrs a month at a property firm.

So he obviously needed that pound.

The school meals comment from him is his ignorance of the situation, but the parking is a non story to be honest as everyone who pays out for parking fuel ect I their job keeps the receipts to claim it back

That’s just common sense

Aight but most people charge the private company for their parking and petrol. He's charging the people he's supposed to be working for.

Sure, it's only a pound. But it shows his mentality.

And yeah the ignorant comments about the school meals pale in comparison to some more senior Tories.

I'm not saying anything about where he claimed his £1 from.

Well if it’s claimed as expenses the it’s claimed against his tax so I don’t see a problem really.

I’m self employed responsible for my own tax and so keep all receipts and yes even a pound

In this scenario, are those pens paid for by the tax payer, or private businesses?

Makes absolutely no difference, theft is against the law, claiming legitimate expenses is totally legal. Is claiming a pound petty yes in my opinion it is, but better than pinching stuff from work

Thing is it might only be a pound but if you run on expenses then you get receipts for everything regardless as it keep the record straight

In all seriousness the pound is a side issue.

He was quite happy to see families who are desperately struggling not receive help in terms of free school meals but he has no qualms about claiming for a point on top of his 100k+ salary.

Obviously a man of integrity.

Theft is theft and if its a private company that has to replace the items, they have to be paid for which shows in the profits and tax paid so in the end the tax payer suffers in either situation
