Good news all around. We need to keep the foot on the peddle and increase our renewable energy capacity further so we can be less reliable on fossil fuels. |

Swedish alt-milk company, Oatly, has announced a new UK facility in Peterborough, creating 200 jobs.
Danish company, Lego, announces plans to vastly increase its presence and workforce in the UK.
Whilst every job loss is a tragedy, the fact that others want to come here to do business is good news indeed! |

"My mate is making a killing in the renewables sector.
Very good news.
I hope he/she isn't a Tory "
I have never really discussed his voting history. We have far more interesting things to talk about than that. |

Given this goverments propensity to lie, I'll believe it when they start cutting the groundworks
Why am I cynical?

You're local, you will have seen all the work being done in the lead up to this by the metro mayor and combined authorities.
GERenewables themselves have the timeframe of production open by 2023, and so far that reason you have to be slightly more optimistic and less cynical?

the work done so far?
Airport retained. Commitment to build a second tees crossing.
Lot of talk, some clearence of old SSI site.
All that has happened is that the mayor has been given cash that could have gone to local authorities.
The freeport? well that wasn't his to give, and the track record of freeports is iffey

well the combined authorities are very much behind all of this and can see the benefits that are coming their way, repaying their support ten fold.
I was very sceptical when the mayor announced the investment in Teesside Airport - "why the hell "waste" the money on this" was my feeling. You can now see where this investment fits in to the much larger plan for the area. Very much like a giant jigsaw that is starting to form a picture of regeneration.
It is ok to be mildly supportive of something that will make a massive difference to the area.
From what I see there is a real buzz on Teesside with not just this announcement, but with all the other positive news for the area.

Look, it's simple, until all the stuff promised happens it's not real.
Remember the super hospital we were promised for Wynard?
Remember the MOD procurement jobs promised for Stockton?
Direct trains to London? We had those ( and still have from Stockton)
The treasury campus at Darlo, positive, but let's ensure local people get a look in.

The freeport? well that wasn't his to give, and the track record of freeports is iffey
airport retained new airlines secured new flights secured second tees flyover as been talked about for more than 20 yrs and an extra 20 million tday for ground work at the old ssi site and you find that upsetting lol
no, I think the airport being retained was essential
SSI - *if* we get new investment, great, but until it's in there and running, it's not real
This area has been shafted by both the major political parties for far too longif we get new investment ? You need to keep up with the news in the area you live in there is lots of new investment 20 million just tday 75 million in humberside aswell
this new investment, can you point to it?buy the gazette listen to the local radio or whack ya google out
I don't read the gazette, it's the PR arm of the local labour parties
I think what you are saying is "they've made an annoucement, we have to hope they keep their word" so again yr the only one on this thread with zero positive to say about Teesside and you live here lol so the announcements about the airport Middlesbrough train station direct line to London montedarlo train station the 750 treasury jobs the freeport 20 million announced tday and you add nothing possitive ffs lol"
The train line won’t create jobs it will just be handy for a weekend away .
Airport investment is definitely better and more useful for the locals
I’m delighted the area is getting something as it’s been too long but whilst a Freeport should attract investment it usually comes by being withdrawn somewhere else in the U.K.
it’s the nature of the beast but good luck to you all up there.

I suggest you talk to staff in North Tees. Or the trust management.
You could actually talk to residents of Hartlepool who are desperate for a hospital closer than north tees. |

Great news, I just hope people realise that the government doesn't get any tax revenue from the company operating and exporting processed products from the area.
Great for people getting jobs, genuinely.
I'd just be nice if the company would be contributing to the national coffers. |

Freeports are low tax, not zero tax.
Some of the tax breaks are temporary, which allows for inward investment. |

Do those that work there not pay income tax ect. Use their earnings to buy things that are taxed |
