The politics Forum has got very political recently.
Brexit isn't a party political issue. Both the main parties were split, one still is.
Brexit was a direct vote by the people of this Sceptered Isle, this New Empire.
Isn't that wonderful?

That makes no sense, there is a worrying trend with your posts . How is the pound doing against the euro since the budget? |

Indeed, I do feel sorry for Chris though, Brexit promised him so much, he was expecting a PlayStation 5 and he get a ZX spectrum |

Even remainers voted in this great exercise of people power, so thanks to the remainers for also being a part of history.
I'm sure we're all now looking forwards and upwards to our happy future, together as one |

It's a New Empire because we are now rule makers not takers, look at the new bilateral agreements we are making with America for example which couldn't happen under the dead hand of Brussels.
We are the leading soft power nation in the world. |

We have discussed the notions of what "Empire" means and I still raise an eyebrow when you mention it. We also discussed that it wasn't "great" for all involved.
The nature of your posts are "different" but my question is who are you trying to convince: Us or yourself? |

Everyone can have notions of what it means to them. So long as it comes from a position of balance, reason and education.
Anyway, back on topic, wasn't the vote a magnificent demonstration of direct democracy in action? |

There are three options I see.
1. The OP is a prankster, saying the most ridiculous thing he can think of.
2. The OP has no clue what he's talking about.
3. The OP believes what he says.
Options 1 & 2 are funny. Option 3 is seriously bizarre. |

Is there an "all of the above" option? |

We have no deal with the US, what are you making up next. Just because the US unilaterally stopped applying tariffs on the Airbus dispute because we aren’t in the EU, doesn’t mean we have done a deal with them |

I'd agree but many of your posts don't reflect any of the three points listed.
As for your OP:
It's a politics forum. It's supposed to be political.
Yes, Brexit isn't as basic as left and right and both parties are still split. The only difference this time round is the PM is surrounded by nodding dogs who'll agree to anything as long as their careers benefit.
All people should be heard. Even after the fact as people who get what they want usually see things through rose-tinted spectacles. Hence the "Empire" talk.
I think you're over-selling it, especially as there is still a long way to go.

Before we can become an empire we need to be the defining ruler over a number of other states.
Who do you suggest we become the definitive ruler over to become an Empire again. |

A vote is a vote, nothing magnificent about it but if a vote is to be held then the results should be actioned according to the rules and definitions set on the vote. |

I pointed out last week several countries turning to us for leadership, help and guidance including Portugal and Germany. |

The irony is probably lost on Brexiters who deride the “anti democratic EU” when they champion the cause of a new Empire.
I suppose the problem with the Eu then wasn’t our involvement in it, but that we didn’t wholly control it? |

The OP goes on about empire because he struggles to find a benefit of Brexit but he’s happy in his historic fantasy so it’s all good. Why spoil his take on reality. If it makes him happy it’s a good thing.
We all have our little escapes. |

Whenever I hear idiots going on about empire I think it such terms as subjugation, occupation, violence and expulsion.
A few weeks ago the Irish President wrote an article suggesting the UK was suffering a feigned amnesia with regard to Britain's imperial past.
"At its core, imperialism involves the making of a number of claims that are invoked to justify its assumptions and practices – including its inherent violence. One of those claims is the assumption of superiority of culture and it is always present in the imperialising project. Forcing an acceptance on those subjugated of the inferiority of their culture as a dominated Other is the reverse side of the coin"

Thread wasn’t really about the New Empire so let’s not get too caught up in Imperial talk.
Was more about paying a little tribute to everyone who voted, no matter which which way, for being a part of history. |
