I referred to the dead hand of Brussels last week. MEP Gunnar Beck agrees:

“Gunnar Beck, a law expert and MEP, said the roots of the problem go back to last summer when the EU was slow to secure vaccine supplies.

He wrote in the Mail on Sunday: "In theory, the European Commission could use its buying power to ensure the rapid delivery of hundreds of millions of doses at rock bottom prices.

"But that ignored the dead hand of the EU bureaucracy, which is the last thing you need in a crisis.”

You are in good company.

A few years ago a survey of 14 year olds showed that more than 10% of them thought that Adolf Hitler played for Bayern Munich and Winston Churchill was a Jamaican rapper.

I sense some deflection away from the issues here.

That's fine tbh. It's a normal human reaction when reality slowly dawns on people who've been sold a pup for 44 years.

It's been apparent in the past week how the remainer complaints have lessened in volume considerably as they realise how well things are going.

That's excellent, though I still think an apology for giving us all a headache for five years would be appropriate.

Its a bit like before Brexit once they realized they had lost the argument they either disappeared for ever or changed their name hoping you would not notice.

Of course not. I think you deserve some sort of comforts though if you have had a headache for 5 years and have led a miserable life for 25 years. Sounds like hell, have you considered applying to the European courts for compensation

No mate i had great confidence in democracy in the uk and knew all those who tried to stop it happening would fail,so no headache here.Im sure those who tried to stop it did though all those little battle wins giving them hope only to have it dashed when Boris turned up like Wellington and won the war.

As many on here will know,I am no lover of the EU.

However even I don't think it is close to collapse, a few more steps down the road, maybe but it will be around for quite a while yet.

If it is going to survive long term though, it really has to start getting its act together.

Here in Germany fifteen years ago you would hardly ever hear a dissenting voice against it.

Since then the EU's shambolic handling of the 2008 financial crisis (AKA Greek tragedy) the equally shambolic handling (or lack of) of the, still ongoing, migrant crisis really had turned many people here against it.

Now we have the fiasco (Guy Verhofstadt's word not mine) of the vaccine procurement and rollout.

The majority of Germans still support the EU but a sizeable, and growing, rump here are getting sick to the back teeth of it.

If the EU is not careful it won't need people like Farage and Co to bring it down. On recent form it is doing a pretty good job of that itself.

The Daily Express/Mail sure do love a good EU story.

I'm sure it's not to distract from problems at home. Only a cynical person would think that.
