Is he the best person to handle this relationship going forward? Or is there someone better suited?

Surely we all want the best person?

You would think this would be the case, however for some it's way down the priority list.

I think it's a very good appointment, and as history suggests, is not something that goes against the grain of acceptability

I see the point, there was a lot of 'unelected officials' stuff to do with Brexit. If anyone chose to believe that argument then they obviously don't know how ministers are appointed in this country.

However, it's not unusual for Government to appoint 'specialists'. It's certainly not the first time and won't be the last either.

I won't say much more or I'll be called out for 'whataboutery'

edging nearer to full blown whataboutery here, but it is interesting to note that the opposition at the moment are dragging back, to steady/rescue the sinking ship, the very "minister" I was subtly referring to

Princes Risborough, Luasanne, Alderney

the arch-unelected beaurocrat dumbinic cummings sacked or bullied out of their job anyone in the civil service who was qualified to take the position, so it's just been farmed out to another member of the chumocracy. standard

All gmnts use unelected officials...you cant elect everyone to run a gmntm

Obvs however it's only an issue when they are connected with the eu.

One of the core 'issues' was the nonsense pushed that the EU was run by unelected officials so it's natural that in the appointment of Frost it's going to be raised..

Tbh it's a bit of a none story as was the so called angst over the EU, accepting it's how things work is positive..

Who knows it might well educate brexiteers and remove some of their long held anxiety over the issue..

Not really, when you've had in this very forum people educating you about how useless Ursula was as a German minister and how she was kicked upstairs to Brussels. Then you have Michel Barnier who is most famous for liking a drink.

Frosty actually has a diplomatic track record and clearly showed a good deal of long overdue nous in cleaning the EU's clock in negotiations.

It's one of those things where you say something often enough it becomes fact..the eu is full of unelected officials..get the usual suspects in the media to say it every other day and enough simpletons start believing it.

It's a very effective tactic.

Completely off topic but this whole captain hindsight bollocks is exactly the same.

Anyone who thinks the media dont have an influence ,is talking out of their arse.

So in the space of a few posts you've absolved him of blame for the fuckups and also said that his previous negotiations are the reason for his new job. That's some pretty spectacular mental gymnastics to hold both those opinions at the same time!

All those shops and bars losing money right now should just close then if that’s the case as by your reckoning they are all making a profit. Hmm

Like anyone struggling the fishermen will hang on as long as they can hoping for changes but a loss is a loss and unless the rules with the EU change the end of the game is inevitable . The shops have hope that Covid will go away so worth hanging on for if they can.

Then of course those fishermen who are left will put their prices up in an attempt to break even and make a living. Is that a win?

What I’m struggling with is although everyone can see firms in trouble and losing money over Brexit it seems to be dismissed by so many as collateral damage.

These people who may have run these firms all their lives and worked very hard in them through no fault of their own in many cases, are going out of business without any hope of a future. I’m sure those with their homes put up as security will be happy to say oh it’s ok I’m losing my home and there will be benefits in 10 years just not for me.

How as a nation can we think that is a price worth paying? There are no benefits only a huge downside. Unless of course you are a tax exile.

Explain non argument as you keep saying it as a throw away. My points are valid and if you can’t answer them then don’t.

Shellfish can’t be exported to its biggest market so no matter if all the bars open they won’t buy what they didn’t want before. So explain how bars opening improves the exports of shellfish which are banned?

Yes those bars are getting grants and some are getting up to £3k a month whilst their rent is £12k a month. So again they are holding on which you shows you agree with me. Thanks.
