"Surely this is a Brexit Benefit?
Businesses not leaving the UK despite brexit. Is a brexit benefit?
Absolutely it is. "
In that case there are 100s of thousands of businesses that will manage to stay open and won't have to leave because of brexit. |

Jaguar Land Rover are a niche market supplier . If you were told your Landy was a 100 grand or 120 grand would you really give a flying .. ? , it’s a very special customer at that end of the market . Extra incurred costs will ( if any will be passed on via some other route .
I would imagine pack up shop and move the whole cabundle somewhere else based on no of sales per annum won’t be cost effective . Plus EU grants are now out the window ( presumably ) so why not stay |

"Surely this is a Brexit Benefit?
Businesses not leaving the UK despite brexit. Is a brexit benefit?yes it’s a good thing so can you tell us why it’s not ?"
Brexit was promised to reduce admin, create new jobs and expand our economy.
So far we’ve increased export admin 10 times, up billions in customs costs, we’re down billions in GDP, jobs moving abroad and now a company that’s 90% a U.K. operation not leaving is a benefit? That’s sad but funny.
Not having Brexit would mean they wouldn’t have even mentioned leaving .
PS don’t forget the hundreds of millions they will be getting from our lovely generous government to sweeten the pill.
If they don’t get some funds that new factory in Slovakia is a handy place to move some production and the U.K. government know it.
Is the defender being built in Slovakia a good thing too? Used to be built here didn’t it? |

No idea of the number just keep watching.
It’s a relentless development in jobs being lost. Someone somewhere has to pay for the billions of losses to business. . We’ve lost some and we’re not massive compared to our competitors who are affected more than us. Directly linked to Brexit not Covid.
Covid will be blamed I’m sure. ( Covid will be responsible for a lot I agree) |

If the decision has been made because of Brexit then yes, but in spite of Brexit isn't a benefit.
Have they committed to the UK because of Brexit and Brexit has improved their business model ? |

I was thinking about my answer there and it’s not just the lost jobs now it’s the lost jobs due to companies not investing and moving investment to the EU
We are on our limited scale as it makes financial sense.
Our customers are moving away from U.K. supply
We follow our customers and I’m sure this will be repeated.
My Scandinavian clients are turning away from the U.K. big time. That’s a mind set not just money.
There will be winners of course but I suspect the losers will definitely outweigh the winners.

we were forced to make 14 english people redundant so they can be added to the tally of job losses. new positions have been made and been filled by 12 europeans with the requisite paperwork and skills. we purchased premises and equipment in europe in 2018 to mitigate the effects of brexit. the company is taxed in europe. |

"Just a quick google said it’s around 1.7 million unemployed and like you say it will be blamed on covid but still no where near the numbers of the 80s "
perhaps that depends if the figures are 'massaged' in the same way as the 80's. 2mil offical unemployment but the realistic figure was 4mil.

Don’t forget to add those on “forced” training.
If you’re you’re unemployed due to Brexit do you think it will make you happy that it was worse under thatcher?
If you lose your job and potentially your home it’s devastating to you personally . |

I didn’t say you did I said you believed the bullshit of a rainbow future and being released from the claws of the big bad EU was the trigger to endless prosperity . Seems it’s proving not to be the case. Even cabinet members are saying 10 years before we get back to square one.
It won’t help those losing out today though.

No I mentioned it on a previous thread actually. To avoid paying U.K. VAT they are registering fiscal representation in the U.K. .
It’s plaque on a walk stuff so no jobs but in the end adds to our costs. |

"Or maybe the fact the UK will have a super size battery production plant - one of a few outside China, the only one in Europe at the moment. Or that lithium will be mined in Cornwall. "
The lithium found in Cornwall is contained in Brine in hot springs 2.5 km deep ..extraction is by bore hole and as yet it’s still debatable as to wether this is viable .. There will be no mining in Cornwall .. It was discussed on another thread recently |

In another thread you said your business is moving offices and staff to the EU but then you say EU companies are only registering an address in the UK.
How is it possible for them to do this whilst you have to set up physical offices with staff etc?
I mean why aren't you able to do what you say EU companies are? |

Because we are supplying from those countries .
We’ve had fiscal representation in other countries (all before Brexit) which will increase now based on local EU vat rules. We also have production sites which will now trade more fiscally on our behalf.
The loss of trade from the U.K. due to Brexit means we have to trade inside the EU on a bigger scale.
It’s not the same thing but what do I know .

I’ve never said anyone voted to hurt the country. Look how many voted for Blair only to find he was full of shit.
The story of Brexit has been manipulated to a point where a lot of people didn’t know right from left.
A lot of remainers didn’t know the details and just thought keep it safe so is that the same ? Probably.
Promises were made and within two months they are being shown to be lies.
No paperwork , smooth frictionless trade, no tariffs. Better global deals ?? The list of false promises goes on and they are slowly being exposed.
I doubt people will admit they were maybe mislead and it’s too late anyway so this debate is academic.
Personally we weren’t given facts to choose just spin. Which is the core of why this country has been underperforming for more years than Brexit has been on the scene.
Governments never admit to being wrong they deflect and avoid when we should hold them to account.

"Just a quick google said it’s around 1.7 million unemployed and like you say it will be blamed on covid but still no where near the numbers of the 80s
Don’t forget to add those on “forced” training.
If you’re you’re unemployed due to Brexit do you think it will make you happy that it was worse under thatcher?
If you lose your job and potentially your home it’s devastating to you personally . asnt that always been the case before brexit after brexit before covid after covid it’s always been devastating steel works close devastating shipyards close devastating the mines closed devastating whole villages and towns destroyed any job lose can be devastating mate
Hence why remainers wanted to avoid such losses.
Brexit voters were happy to jump into a fantasy future promised to them without question and without facts to back them up. yep that’s us mate we want job loses want the country to sink us 17.4 million some where probs members of yr family friends work mates none of us wamt the country to prosper if only we were as clever and bright as you eh ffs
Our own banks and ONS clearly stated we will be worse off but still you voted! Did you think worse off meant anything other than bad news?

I didn’t call you dumb that’s your words so don’t put that on me. I’ve never called any Brexiteer for intellect so your anger is misplaced .
I’ve been coned in business in the past so am not immune to being “mislead”. I challenge anyone on fab to say they are always right! In this case I’m claiming remain was right.
Funds moving to Amsterdam and Frankfurt already outweighs the £9Billion we paid annually to the EU so the leaflet cost is trivia
We were warned but some of us decided to dismiss as project fear.
I hate our elite society but it’s that the same elite that has lead our country down this nightmare path just to avoid their money being taxed.
JCB is owned by a trust in the Bahamas who’s sole beneficiaries are the brothers who own JCB. There’s no fun in debating with idiots so I would have left long ago if that was the case.
I’m not going to convince anyone on here to change their mind but it’s fun having the argument.
It’s a swingers site for Fucks sake so none of us are going to change the world.

Yes I never followed the Armageddon theory. People have to eat and laws would be bent or ignored to stop that scenario.
I personally think Brexit is bad and it will damage us for a lot of years. It is all a tax avoidance scheme as I see it.
The government will have to act quickly to change our economy to something higher skilled for us to stay a leading economy. That’s going to be hard with out debt ( that’s all on another post)
If we go down the Singapore route of low tax haven we are just keeping the status quo of rich and poor but making the divide greater.
Let’s see if the government truly do invest in the rest of the country. I personally doubt they will apart from a few vanity projects.
The big money boys can offer seats on boards or consultancies for the MPs that make the decisions on who gets the country’s cash.
The PPE scandal is a prime example of friends first as some U.K. manufactures were ignored while Del Boy traders were given multi million pound contracts .
