Artists Touring in (EU) Europe

The U.K. rejected an EU offer on short-term mobility for touring entertainers because it would have not allowed the government to regain control of its borders after Brexit, a British minister said.

The EU negotiators put forward proposals to exempt musicians and artists from any new visa requirements or restrictions on short-term work on the Continent. The EU’s draft legal text, published last March, included a clear exemption from potential new restrictions for several categories of workers, including “sportspersons or artists performing an activity on an ad-hoc basis” as well as “journalists sent by the media of their country of residence.”

The problem with the EU's offer appears to be that should artists be able to travel and perform in the EU, artists and others would be able to enter the UK on the same terms and that is just simply not compatible with our manifesto commitment to take back control of our borders.

So, in a nutshell, because we want to take back and control our borders, we are penalizing those artists from the UK that would normally perform in (EU) Europe.

Of course, the EU could make an exemption and allow artists to do so but, the UK would not agree to the converse hence, it is pretty unlikely that things will move forward.

Taking back control. Keeping immigrants out. Regaining Sovereignty.

All very well but there are repercussions.

However, we knew what we voted for so were already aware of this.

We won - you know the rest.

I doubt it was as simple as music artists travelling and performing, more likely they wanted a lot more professions than just them to have free movement in the U.K. which would have put things right back to free movement of people.

Roger Daltrey having the realisation that the Brexit he campaigned for is actually going to cause him a massive pain in the hole, has been quite funny.

The EU are being stupid nasty bastards over this, many young British artist earn there livings in Europe and many people enjoy there music so they are also hurting the youth of there own.Eventually common sense will prevail hopefully soon.

This has nothing to do with taking back control it is not connected.

Lets face we send more artist there as they send here because we are more talented in modern musical culture than the whole of Europe put together.

"If they want to go to Europe and play there is nothing to stop them just get a visa and work permit."

Doesn't sound like much of a brexit benefit to me.

Pretty much the end of European touring for smaller UK bands.

And will cost us more to see bands who choose to pay more to come to the UK.

Tower Bridge South

I heard a tour manager being interviewed a couple of weeks ago and there's more to it than you think. Take the tour t-shirts as an example. Previously they would be produced by a known supplier, usually in the UK, who could keep the tour topped up through couriers all over Europe.

Now they have a dilemma. Continue with UK production (and jobs) but pay export fees - t-shirt prices go up, or buy locally - no export fees but also no UK jobs.

Omg how terrible 40 euros rather than 35 euros for a badly printed bit of rubbish:

1) wasn’t going to buy one anyway

2) if you do buy one in Europe, the better exchange rate will make up the difference

the government has shot itself in both feet over this industry sector. 25% of the economy and shrinking fast. still the brexaholics celebrate the job losses and revenue reduction in bizzarre stubborness.

This industry has been closed for a year. And nothing to do with Brexit.

I hate to break it to you

has it really? funny that i had to travel to paris to work on the music for a film last august and some radio work, but you carry on thinking you know a thing or two about the peripatetic arts industry.

Thi is about Artists touring (live events). There hasn't been any in a year. This has nothing to do with TV or Radio.

Maybe staying with the actual issue would serve you well ??

this is about the arts industry despite your overwhelming need to 'cancel' the discussion on account of you clearly knowing nothing on the subject, along with the brexaholics celebrating the hit that the arts industry is taking. your choice, your loss.

The clue is in the title 'artists touring'. You said yourself 'peripatetic' now if I'm not mistaken that means travelling place to place ie. touring.

You have absolutely no idea what I know about the arts industry, and im certainly not trying to 'cancel' anything.

You're confusing travelling to France for work with touring.

travelling to france to make music is clearly touring unless you are a person who clearly knows nothing about the touring arts industry.

Looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I say travelling to a single destination is neither 'touring' nor 'peripatetic'.

But then again I'm just using the definition of those words
