"Theresa Villiers asked Michael Gove to "take a tough approach with the EU" and renegotiate the N Ireland protocol and draft a replacement for it. Point of order... She voted for the protocol, for the Brexit deal and voted against having more time to scrutinise either - now she wants changes. Meanwhile Michel Barnier pleaded with the U.K. Govt to just be honest and admit to its people that these problems are Brexit problems, not protocol problems. He feels that by telling the people who voted for Brexit that this is just an unfortunate consequence would be more honest than the constant efforts at deflection by the U.K. Govt." The UK has a long history of blaming the EU so Barnier shouldn't hold his breath. The hypocrisy is no surprise. This is the deal Boris negotiated and the Tories won an election on.

So why don’t they just own it as Barnier is suggesting? No-one expects perfection from any Govt and accepting pain and blood in the name of the Brexit cause will probably be like viagra to many Leavers.

" There's probably a few reasons but no Tory PM will publicly acknowledge that they ceded territory to the EU. The DUP was used by the ERG and Johnson to bring down May, thinking they would get a land border in Ireland without having their fingerprints on it. Johnson as we know threw them under one of his buses.
