In this mental saga of life, with everything that has been going on, all the division, all the general madness...
What is one positive that have seen happening in the midst of all of it?
For me, its that we managed to get a vaccine sorted and are finally steadily moving towards the day society is more normal again! |

Well done. Turned a positive thread into a negative thread by the first reply.
Positives for me. Days are getting longer, so we can look forward to brighter evenings.
Lots of bands are releasing new music which they've been writing during lockdown.
Vaccine on its way, and infection rates are falling. Light at the end of the tunnel.

There have been no asteroid strikes on major cities? Or being serious, have some of the wars around the globe calmed down a bit? Maybe we're just not reporting on them as much, or could it be that some countries have enough trouble already now without spending time killing each other? |

It does seem that way, maybe the covid situation has created some measure of global unity? If so I hope it lasts! |

As above poster said.
I don't have the exact figures. I don't know why that's relevent.
This probably isn't a thread for discussing the number of black people the police in the US kill.

Someone else brought it up.
If you're interested, there is a wealth of information on line about police killings in the states, measured against all types of metrics. |

Skeet is fun. Sporting clays course is one of my favorites. There is one near us Leigh Valley sporting clays. I use a Benelli M2 3 for that it's like a day out golfing.

Is this a positive?"
That's clearly not a positive as you well know.
Did you know that 43% of all exports went to the EU in 2019. 58% of which were goods. However, that 43% is down 11% on the last 17 years.
If ours services have increased so much over these years why is there still an 11% deficit? Because it can't be Brexit.
I'd like to see the 2020 and 2021 figures versus 2019 figures before deciding whether brexit is actually the factor. |

It’s made up Lionel.remember when I said this is happening I was making it up and it was just business incompetence.
The word teething is used to play it down. We can see hundreds of millions being lost to “teething problems” HMRC would have imploded at full export rate levels. They can’t cope now on a less than a sixth! Imports are not being checked or cleared properly because there aren’t the staff and the IT can’t cope.
The real worry is as with our experience, clients chose EU over the U.K. supply permanently, simply to avoid the hassle.

Speak to the ferry companies.
DFDS, Cobelfret, Stena P&O. They can all tell you the mess is happening right now hidden from view. Two of those companies in northern ports won’t accept T1 traffics from all but major shippers. They also won’t accept bookings for new routes or take on new clients due to being overwhelmed with problems. Each port and customs has its own methods. It’s a farce. Some hauliers are declining U.K. export business that’s a fact.

Trump isn't President any more. Boris seems to be going all socialist. I'll be able to vote - and get offered a jag - in May; not sure which will be first but I'd reckon the vote. |

I don't doubt hauliers are having a rough time of it. I'm certain it hasn't helped with France closing the borders too.
I'd just like to see long term figures before deciding whether export figures are down because of Brexit.
Who knows if and when it's all ironed out it may show that actually over the course of a couple of years that EU exports are down but others are up. Or maybe EU exports are not down at all.
These aren't questions that can be answered short term. We will only be able to see it over the course when figures are published. |

The delays on hauliers are due to Brexit not Covid as that’s a quick test. The French are not stopping anything.
As an exporter it’s our Customs and the total lack of a coherent procedure across the country which is delaying and stopping exports.
There will be no rush to impose customs checks on imports as HMRC can’t cope so it’s just exports affected. Good isn’t it !

NHL is fun though. Some of the Canadian teams are ruthless. |

"the end of rail franchising"
Yes! It is only temporary though as we will soon tell you that franchising is the best way to run trains in this country. Tax payers’ money when things go tits up and privatise profits when things go well.
However I agree this is also one my positives.
I’d go for the notion of key worker. Some people have realised that bankers or city jobs are probably not as essential as the jobs that have kept this country ticking for a year.
And Boris’ role model clearing off from the White house.

For me personally the virus got me into the job I'm currently working on but who knows what opportunities would have been available if the whole country hadn't gone to shit.
The other positive would be I now can work from home which I've never been able to in the past , my wife is doing the same as well as our daughter who's home working her school work so we have much more time together. |

Positive that people are getting it, stupid that they are waiting 12 weeks for a second dose.
This government is doing things in half measures.
Like most of its pretty pathetic response it has in this pandemic,
Case in point, influencers being able to circumvent lockdown rules to sun it up abroad, without consequence.
Or tier rules which were ineffective, or PPE not being procured the start,
Oh and wait over 100000 deaths due to Covid.
Yes we have a vaccine, but we the good public have sacrificed much. |
