.... in their next big meeting in Brussels, what dessert wine should they serve with their dinner. The Allure pink Morcato went down so well last time but some of the rebels are calling for Rosa Regale. What do you think?

my big question would be why pretend this has anything to do with the virus and not just post anti EU threads in the politics section where they belong

Frankly I'm surprised by their lack of taste. Both the Allure Moscato and the Rosa Regale are light off-dry sparkling wines that I'd prefer as an aperitif. For dessert, there's much better from the EU like a Sauternes or sweet Riesling.

Honestly it’s a disgusting abuse of the people who are supposed to be looked after by them. People paying vat on things twice and the like. We should never have joined in the first place.

I get this a tongue in cheek thread, but even I can’t bring myself to say ‘I told you so’ in the politics or virus forums.

Long and short of it, people will die as a result of this. Doesn’t sit right with me to gloat

no. I agree in some ways. But our outrage at them trying to stop the people of NI getting their vaccine was an important moment. It just let people see who they are, and who we are. There’s a massive disconnect between normal people and the political class. Our outrage has been here all along. But it’s brought into focus when they essentially held a gun to the heads of elderly people in NI. In the spirit of cooperation our next best move once we get to the point where we have a stockpile and can do so without risk to the GB public is offer help to Ireland. After all we share a land border with them and it would help that whole island get back to peaceful normality I we could do the right thing and help them out.

I’m sorry if I misread the original post but it didn’t seem to convey outrage to me. Felt more like the dripping condescension I usually see reserved for Brexiteers here.

For me I think it isn’t for those who voted for Brexit to be outraged at this. Those who wanted to stay should be the ones angry, not us. We know what we voted for and why. Just my two pence worth anyway x

No not gloating just balance. Can you imagine if we had messed up and were on 2% vaccinated and the EU counties had a spectacular task force and were on 10% BJ would have been flogged in the street and rolled in salt.

No question about that. It would be a circus. I just try not to get too hung up on the tit for tat that goes on. It is what it is. Just be happy you can see through the smoke and mirrors.

Just because the vaccine roll out has been a success shouldnt detract from the numerous cock ups over the last 12 months.

I would argue that he hasn’t gotten away with the raft of fuck ups tho. It’s been consistently covered by the media. The public won’t forget. Any public enquiry and they (the government) are truly fucked. Everyone has to reap the whirlwind in the end. Had they buggered the vaccine rollout too then they’d be out on their ear already. Mass public disobedience and civil disorder, even with it being winter.

We will see.

There definitely needs to be some sort of enquiry.

Even accounting for the eu's fuck up,the death rate in many European counties is still lower than here.

And that ,once its over, will be what you are measured on.

I feel as if the company itself however, is being forgotten in this maelstrom of accusations.

it seems the vaccine roll out gamble is too early to be judged. if problems arise that are eventually found to be caused by ignoring the science and extending the wait for a second dose then it could prove costly for the government.

They have never said they wouldnt, the EU are trying to jump the queue and get doses from others higher up the order base, when in a hole stop digging.

Well it padded out something like this:

*The UK ordered vaccines before the EU under contract and then started rolling out those vaccines.

*The EU ordered their vaccines after the UK, so it couldn't roll out vaccines until it received them.

Germany broke the agreement with the EU and ordered an extra 30million for its own citizens - the EU threw a fit and Germany had to fall in line.

The Vaccine companies then said that there will be delays because of production problems. The EU said well we still want ours before anyone else including the UK (proof of this was that they embargoed export of the vaccine out of the EU. You now have to get special permission).

The EU decided to invoke article 16 - and were told it was and 'extreme act of aggression' and just as quickly withdrew.

Now if non of that is 'trying to jump the queue' I don't know what is!!

Exactly, AZ need to honour the contact both on price and numbers

They have never said they wouldnt, the EU are trying to jump the queue and get doses from others higher up the order base, when in a hole stop digging.

Are they? Do you have any evidence to support that?

"

It doesn’t prove anything, try again, btw I think the EU have made a completed mess of this

Okay. They tried to stop UK vaccines (legitimately ordered under contract) from leaving the EU. Therefore, getting theirs BEFORE that contract had been legally filled.

If that isn't queue-jumping what is?

Edinburgh.

I don’t see how they expected to get vaccines out of this country. They would get stuck in The long queues with the other lorries full of pork chops and the like. We would probably have to set up some sort of export permits could take years. We could set up a committee to go over the details. Oh on the committee we could have nice lunches. Perhaps we could get advice from the Eu about desert wines.

They tried but they didn’t because they realised it was a huge mistake. Nobody should ever consider revoking article 16, don’t you agree?

Never mind Solidarity will get them through . ..

"The BBC's Europe editor Katya Adler says some EU governments are beginning to show impatience with Brussels, which had hoped its vaccination purchasing scheme would be a beacon of European solidarity and strength.

The Commission's laboured negotiating process, the tardy approval of vaccines by the EU's medical regulator and delays now in vaccine deliveries have left EU citizens demanding answers and action, our correspondent says.

Markus Söder, the Bavarian premier and Germany's possible future chancellor, told ZDF television on Friday that it was his impression that the commission "ordered too late, and only bet on a few companies, they agreed on a price in a typically bureaucratic EU procedure and completely underestimated the fundamental importance of the situation."

The have taken a step back from invoking article 16 but they are still pressing ahead with the plan to 'get permission' on vaccine exports.

Who says they will 'give permission' when said requests come from the vaccine manufacturers?

Seeing as it was a legal document, I'm guessing they had to redact quite a bit.

"Never mind Solidarity will get them through .

Is this the same katya alder who was getting slated on here the other day?

TY.

"South Africa’s deputy director general of health, Anban Pillay, said his government had been told that $5.25 was the set price for a country classified by the World Bank as upper-middle income. “The explanation we were given for why other high-income countries have a lower price is that they have invested in the [research and development], hence the discount,” he added."

Not so much a price hike as it is a discount then.

"In the early years, a lot of that will be paying for a share of spending that the EU committed to while the UK was a member, but has not yet funded.

Most of the money paid in later years will be contributions towards funding the pensions of EU staff.

But there will also be money paid back to the UK from things like its money in the European Investment Bank (just over £3bn) and the European Central Bank (about £50m).

The UK will also receive a share of any money paid to the EU in fines that were imposed before the end of 2020, which is estimated to be worth about £1.2bn."

Other projects like:

Horizon Europe research scheme

Euratom nuclear research programme

Copernicus, the earth monitoring project

Will be continued to be paid by the UK as founder and research members.

Haha, nice bit of copy and pasting, irrelevant though

So true because YOU write it - and not true because FACTS are copied and pasted? hahaha"

I am not disputing these ‘facts’ I am just stating they are irrelevant to the point I am making. The OP and other posters keep taking about what the EU leaders are eating, I am stating the fact that we are still paying for their delicious food and drinks, cheers

"Yep, we have left, we are free from the EU, just make sure we keep sending the money though, that champagne and lobster needs paying for "

So you admit then that that's all we paid for while full members of the EU?

Finally, seeing the light."

Probably, and we are still paying for it

You know exactly what I mean. Same old condescension. Someone called you out on it and deleted their post. If it’s ‘bants’ then you’ve gone over my head, and the head of others it seems. You seemed to be taking it pretty seriously when claiming there was no evidence of the EU trying to ‘jump the queue’. Just my observation of course

Sorry I missed information:

£11 Billion for 2018 after abatements and refund.. However, the notional theoretical limit was set at £20 billion for 2018.

Apparently our glorious and world beating NHS app had cost more than 25 billion and the superb track and trace system even more money on top.

You can always trust the tories with your money.

£11 Billion for 2018 after abatements and refund.. However, the notional theoretical limit was set at £20 billion for 2018.

Ah, so have we ever paid £20 billion?

Just said that. And wrote sorry I missed information.

So. with the correct information

As was always the case any EU member country can request funding for structural projects from the central fund. This forms the refund spend every country gets year-on-year. This will continue during our exit period from the central fund.

Anyway. Netflix time. Have a nice evening.

"Your never going to convince them that we still have obligations that the U.K. will honour be use that’s what Britain does.

They are so biter and twisted about it that they just will not let it go

Haha, I find it hilarious, these threads are started as some light hearted fun, chill out

Yet you choose to speak to people the way that you do.... interesting

Like what? You can be taking this thread seriously ?

You know exactly what I mean. Same old condescension. Someone called you out on it and deleted their post. If it’s ‘bants’ then you’ve gone over my head, and the head of others it seems. You seemed to be taking it pretty seriously when claiming there was no evidence of the EU trying to ‘jump the queue’. Just my observation of course

I respect your ‘observation’ , the OP is about what the EU like to drink though??

Again - took it pretty seriously while defending the EU. You chose the wrong hill to die on and someone had your pants down over it, so now the whole threads ‘a laugh’. Do carry on tho

Thanks for your permission, next time I want to post something I will ask you first, just to make sure you aren’t offended.

Oh no please don’t, I don’t have anywhere near as much time to post as you seem to do. It’d be pretty exhausting. Just thought I’d post my thoughts as others keep deleting what they really want to say

Thanks again, I am touched that you made the effort and my posts have managed to trigger something with you ."

What can I say, your behaviour inspired me!! Anyway, time for the Married at First Sight Australia!! Less drama than in the Fab politics threads anyway!! Have fun

"I get this a tongue in cheek thread, but even I can’t bring myself to say ‘I told you so’ in the politics or virus forums.

Long and short of it, people will die as a result of this. Doesn’t sit right with me to gloat no. "

well yes.

But if you look at the date. I wrote that before they said they were going to close the Irish border. When that happened it lit the touch paper for a lot of people. If anyone needed any proof as to the sort of people that run the Eu, that was it. They have ruined European life for all of us Europeans and picking up a fortune for doing so. Love your fellow Europeans, hate the Eu.

Best analogy I've read..its like burning your house down because you enjoyed staying in a tent last year.

No one ever said the EU was perfect..and they have got this wrong.

This doesnt stop me thinking that brexit will be a total cluster fuck.

Meanwhile the rest of Europe must be asking themselves if Brexit is the way to go. You only have to read the European press and see what they are saying

If the EU said ok we have gone too far, we are going back to the common market, free trade but no politics I would be happy for us to rejoin,

Yeah they certainly did, and lots of other things too, and "we" got this one thing right but have got plenty of stuff wrong too. I'm not an EU fan but using this to make politic capital is really silly. What goes around comes around. We are out of the union but we need to find ways to work together and we should use this to refine the trading agreement, not to throw rotten tomatoes at "them". Whatever our thoughts on brexit, it's done, it's decided, and it's going to be an ugly and painful journey for quite a few years yet.
