diplomatic status
Jump to: Newest in thread
'The freedom from legal proceedings in the UK that is granted to members of diplomatic missions of foreign states by the Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964. This Act incorporates some of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (1961), which governs diplomatic immunity in international law. The extent of the immunity depends upon the status of the member in question, as certified by the Secretary of State. If he is a member of the mission's diplomatic staff, he is entitled to complete criminal immunity and to civil immunity except for actions relating to certain private activities. A member of the administrative or technical staff has full criminal immunity, but his civil immunity relates only to acts performed in the course of his official duties. For domestic staff, both criminal and civil immunity are restricted to official duties. The so-called diplomatic bag is immune from search and seizure, as are the premises of the mission.
Similar immunities are granted to members of Commonwealth missions by the Diplomatic and other Privileges Act 1971, and to members of certain international bodies under the International Organisations Acts 1968 and 1981. Under the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987, the Secretary of State may remove diplomatic status from diplomatic or consular premises that are being misused.'
i'm sure that those who perpetualy moan about the EU will have much to grumble about despite the law being quite clear. |

Why not the E.U ?" Wasn't that a republic before they split and were all represented by one from the ussr? they all have their own ambassadors now just like germany, spain, france etc. |

"well thats whats up for debate can you be a diplomat of a international body rather than a country?"
142 other countries treat EU diplomats the same as they do those from individual countries.
So this seems like just the UK being antagonistic for the sake of it. Unsurprisingly. |

"It seems the eu ambassador in London is seeking full diplomatic status which is only granted to national states. So should an international body be granted the same status as country?"

Regardless of whether they are a country or not. If we want to have a working relationship going forward then yes we should grant them diplomatic immunity.
We cannot make a success of Brexit without some kind of working relationship |

It is hilarious, when will your obsession with the EU end? You know it isn’t healthy , instead of worrying about what the EU are doing why don’t you celebrate and highlight all the amazing benefits of Brexit . Then you can truly heal and move on I dont worry mate not since the vote was counted its been happy days for me ever since.
Your life must have been awful before the vote then
Yeah watching all those mep,s and presidents making millions out of my taxes really pissed me off,not anymore though. "
You've got your own shower of shite Prime Ministers and MP's squandering and making millions out of your taxes instead.
While having systemic lying cheating corrupt government ministers in our own country doesn't please me in the slightest, it has never had a negative effect on my personal mental wellbeing. |

To a certain extent I feel a duty to remind people of the hysterical behaviour of some remainers over the past few years. As Brussels fades and dies we need to call out those who have some ludicrous rose tinted view of this country as it was under the yoke. |

We’re you unhappy before the 2016 referendum as well? |

Of course, I’ve not believed in Brussels since the failed audits, Delors, Maastricht and the rest. Strange question. |

Sir Tim Barrow, who until January was the UK’s Permanent Representative to the EU in Brussels but is now officially termed the “UK Ambassador to the European Union” will soon find himself equally disenfranchised… |

Seeing as Brussels isn’t a nation state I’m sure he’ll cope with that disappointment.
Although he might miss the taxpayer funded lobster and champagne, so that’s bad (for him), sob sob |

"united soviet socialist republics ... plurality is key"
The USSR was a one party state, ruled by Moscow.
Unless, of course, you think that the United States of America is similar. (Plurality, after all) |

... yes, he's off to new pastures.
The new Head of Mission to the European Union, Mr Ambassador, is Lindsay Croisdale-Appleby

Except the USSR had one ambassador, all the individual "countries" did not have them, they had one government and one army etc. Vary very different from what people claim the EU has. |

Political posturing by Brexit obsessed Conservatives. Most of the world accept it, but newly “independent” British Politicians think otherwise.
