Priti Patel says the UK should have closed its borders in March 2020 in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a video call obtained by Guido Fawkes , the home secretary told Tory supporters she was an "advocate" of closing the borders 10 months ago.

Knowing Priti she was probably unaware of the pandemic and it was one of her policy proposals.

Who the f is Guido Fawkes?

Priti wanted to close the border, SAGE opposed closing the border.

Government went with SAGE.

Wasn't the message at the time “we are following the science”

nobody knows, as at that time last year SAGE was a secret organisation that no member of the public was allowed to know what they were saying or who they were.

Going by what's now being said, folks would have preferred if Boris hadn't listened to the experts (SAGE) and instead gone with what the Home Secretary wanted to do.

Apparently they said it wouldnt make a difference.

It's all very odd as the same day the papers were released, a recording of priti has also been released.

Surely we are just holding them responsible

If she admits it, it’s negligence of duties at minimum and manslaughter at worst.

Her lack of action, whilst busying herself with who she could deport next, has undoubtedly caused deaths, potentially thousands.

Resign

Ironic really the only time she doesn’t want to shut the borders is when it makes sense to do so.

they followed the science - SAGE advised against closing the border.

So when they said “we follow the science” - they did. Problem is with hindsight - the science was wrong .

This is the SAGE committee that at the time had Dominic Cummings sitting on it.

I'm sure that had no influence on what they recommended.

Meanwhile, people are giving Patel credit for claiming she thought something over a year ago?

The bar for comptence amongst Tories is really low, isn't it.

i am looking at the published minutes for the 'Twenty-eighth Sage meeting on COVID 19, 23rd April 2020 Held via Zoom' on the governments website.

in the list of attendees it clearly, unequivocally and irrefutably shows 'HMG Dominic Cummings (No. 10)'
