Challenged about the warning from the seafood sector that fishing businesses could collapse within days, Mr Raab said he was “not convinced” it was because of the Government’s trade deal with the European Union.

I would think with restaurants across the eu shut due to covid the lack of shellfish is not really making any impact at all it could be a different matter once things start getting back to normal and the public start asking why they are paying a lot more for them. |

I seen that , shocking but not surprising that not one of them can take any responsibility. |

The fishing industry has been struggling for a long time. And even more so in this last year.
Now I'm not saying Brexit hasn't hurt them that bit more but it's by no means the sole cause of the issue

Restaurants true.
When they fill the forms in correctly and HMRC don’t have inspectors and don’t reply to the cleanse for hours on end definitely our fault.
Covid is unavoidable. The delays are.
People still buy fish just not in restaurants so having fish to sell but unable to get it to market in time is the problem. |

Corny jokes aside - this Govt has totally fucked the fishing industry, and apparently they were the ones we were trying to help!? Why did they not just give every fisherman £1m and protect the FS industry? Given the scale of the fuck up there, fishing will be just noise again. Brexit didn’t have to be shit, but when you are led by Donkeys... |

I'm not sure why people delight in things going badly, it won't make your life better or you!
There are bound to be teething issues and the eu fishermen are obviously going to be pissed at losing quotas year on year, the government just need to make sure we are treated fairly, if I was kept waiting for 40 hrs to get through a port I'd sue, perhaps that's where it's heading. If the French can't staff their boarders correctly That's hardly the uks fault |

Some of the fisherman are working around it by landing their catch in Denmark instead where they don't get the same restrictions like they face in france |

I think you mean to avoid shipment through Britain to the EU? They could equally land their catch’s in Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium or France - it just means extending their sailing time. But it does avoid the crap on the borders |

It was just a story I read on the BBC. seems to be no problem selling the catch in Denmark and better price than Scotland. Aparantly 2 bothers made an extra 300,000 Danish crowns this way. I suspect once they can get back to selling in France they will given its much closer |
